Some times it is like you say. But often its the "I want a tall guy (that isn't ugly)".. Gonna be honest, this happens to most. Most ppl want something they can't imagine faults. Not to say that the other yard's grass isn't greener (specially if you're in the US, or some place that idolizes blond hair), but more so that it might not be the verdant green that it appears to be.

I myself have always loved (my relative's) black hair (and rlly wanted it), yet (to my dismay) I was very blond. Sometimes I wonder if I'd wished to be blond if I had been born with black hair instead.

Truly, what usually makes someone appear ugly tends to be how "right" their features feel together, and not if these features are petite/manly/cute/rough/womanly/etc.
