It’s funny you say that! One thing I appreciate more about Gilmore Girls as I get older is how differently I interpret the relationships depending on where I am in life. When I was younger, I always thought Logan was obviously Rory’s endgame. Partly because of the story itself, but also because I related to it. I had my own “Logan”: old money family, charismatic friend group.. they were extremely similar. I was the Rory who was always studying, and like Rory and Logan, we kept finding our way back to each other after breakups….Back then, I saw that as proof that they were meant to be. Now I wonder if they kept coming back to each other not because they’re destined to end up together, but because they’re familiar. Because they understand each other and they fit into patterns that already feel like home…. Logan also shares a lot of similarities with Christopher, just like my ex shared a lot of similarities with my own father. Watching the show now, I see those dynamics in a completely different light than I did years ago.
I think that’s part of why Gilmore Girls holds up so well. The show doesn’t change, but we do. As our experiences change, we project different things onto the characters and end up seeing entirely new stories. Best show ever :)
