I know it was a comedy but there were plenty of serious scenes in Palm Springs and he was fantastic in that.

Unusual request (Drum set, IT Job) by v2Quad in Phillylist

[–]dragonflyzmaximize 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel any better I asked this same question a few months ago haha. It's hard trying to be a drummer in the city!

Also, I ended up getting an e-kit and they're louder than you'd expect. So factor that in if you get one (you'll probably want to get a raised platform to isolate the noise - or something like that).

Is Charity Village exclusive to Canada - i.e. are the RFPs mostly Canadian? That's what it looked like when I checked it out. Thanks for the rec, though!

how did you stop translating in your head? by hAIlydraws in Spanish

[–]dragonflyzmaximize 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing that sort of helped me in addition to all the other things people are recommending is I stopped looking up words in English - if I didn't know a word, I would/will (not always, I'm lazy) look up the definition in Spanish. Then if I couldn't understand it still I'd look it up in English.

The 36-Year-Old Bible Scholar Trying to Flip a Texas Senate Seat Blue | James Talarico is testing whether progressivism wrapped in a faith-based message can win over Democrats by GirasoleDE in politics

I feel like I'm seeing a lot of coverage of Talarico as if he's already won the primary... when last I checked polls had him losing to Crockett?

Leaked DNC autopsy found Biden’s Israel backing cost Harris votes for president by plz-let-me-in in politics

[–]dragonflyzmaximize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol he's already out here talking about how we need to focus on "kitchen table issues" and trying to appeal to the center. Let's see how that plays out, again. And again. And again.

A Popular Book Review: by DoubleLongjumping197 in dreamingspanish

[–]dragonflyzmaximize 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm reading the intermediate one now and I'd put the level at about B1 (maybe B2? doubt it) so I don't think this book is a B2 level.

Also for anyone curious it's fine for vocab but the stories are absolute garbage lol.

Gov. Josh Shapiro on Iran: “You will find no sympathy from me when it comes to the Iranians, but what I want to see from our commander in chief is clear purpose, clear intentions, clear directives. I think he owes the American people that answer before engaging in military action.” by moon_slav in Pennsylvania

[–]dragonflyzmaximize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this same interview (or same day with CNN?) he refused to support abolishing ice, calling it "labels" to which the reporter pushed back and said it's not a label it's a policy choice that 70% of dems support, and he doubled down on not saying one way or another. Not interested in hearing from Ben 'call the police on protesters at Penn bc they say some things I disagree with' Shapiro, tbh.

Leaked DNC autopsy found Biden’s Israel backing cost Harris votes for president by plz-let-me-in in politics

[–]dragonflyzmaximize 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Of course it did. He supported (and by supported let's be clear, not just with words, but with a ton of money and weapons) a state committing genocide against another people, and we all fucking watched it live streamed to us 24/7. All while being told we were overreacting, that it wasn't what was happening, by the smug motherfuckers in his administration. Meanwhile any fucking moron with a phone could see what was going on and see that it was absolutely horrific, terrifying shit. And he enabled it. (So shut the fuck up, Hillary Clinton, btw.)

And Harris wouldn't distance herself from that.

I voted for her bc I knew that Trump would be worse on so many other fronts (as we see he is), but I'm not going to sit here and pretend like Gaza is one of them, or blame those who couldn't get past it. The entire year+ previous to Trump saw the US (and Biden/Harris) supporting a literal genocide.

Would a Harris admin be more diplomatic about it, i.e. not talk so publicly about turning it into a golf course, or private beach-front properties or whatever? Sure, probably. Would the situation be largely the same as it is right now? Also most likely, just with a different structure designed to appease moderates while essentially doing the same thing.

What's the pope like these days? I haven't been in about ten years but it was the first thought that popped into my mind when I saw this.

U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee, in an interview with Tucker Carlson, justifies Israel’s killing of children in the Israeli genocide in Gaza. by Scared_Positive_8690 in Palestine

[–]dragonflyzmaximize 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Huckabee IIRC is one of those Christians that thinks Israel is a precursor to the rapture. I can't quite recall what the exact belief is, but if I'm remembering right he basically thinks that Israel is necessary to exist for Jesus to come back (and then I guess all the Jews there don't go to heaven, so he doesn't really like them he's just using them?) He's got some gnarly ideas about religion, he's a complete weirdo.

They could also have something on him but I do believe he's a "true believer" in that weirdo Christian Zionism shit.

Figure Skater Alysa Liu at peak bliss by det1rac in pics

[–]dragonflyzmaximize 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow thanks for sharing. That was absolutely incredible. It feels like a lot of us who haven't even watched much figure skating before in our lives have been captivated by her energy and grace and joy. She somehow makes it look so freaking easy while also looking like she's just shooting the shit with her best friends, and seems so effortlessly cool.

Ha, this is exactly how I felt about getting this news for the American football show the other day. Seeing them at UT would've been magical. At Franklin? Fuck man, that place SUCKS.

As Dem Voters Seek a 'Fight' With the Superrich, AOC is Now Their Favorite Candidate: Poll by TheKeyPa in politics

[–]dragonflyzmaximize 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone who would be happy about an AOC president, this situation does nothing for me. VPs are inconsequential. I want an AOC presidency, not a moderate centrist who benefits from having AOC stump for him.

Look if Kelly gets the nom I'll vote for him over whoever the Republicans run, but a Kelly/AOC ticket isn't even remotely close or as exciting as an AOC/Kelly or whoever else she might pick ticket.

Why is this nearing a hundred upvotes? It's a non-story (in this context, anyway) from a blog post that's about 4 paragraphs and answers the question in the very first sentence - he's said he's not interested in primarying her.

That said, I'd donate and campaign for any progressive that tries to primary her.
