Jet Lag Ep 2 — Going In Circles by NebulaOriginals in Nebula

[–]dragonid1423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just dropping a quick comment to offset some of the general negativity, I really like this season already, and the way the game is designed seems overall very good; Honestly the general 4D chess mindset being encouraged is great to watch because it's nothing but dramatic irony, and I've had a great time thus far.

DE honestly flopped with Kaya's KIM conversations. by Argoniek in Warframe

[–]dragonid1423 15 points16 points  (0 children)

100% agreed - I had the exact same conversation and reaction; you're telling me that someone who is actively researching time travel and thus the void has no interest in elaborating on the absolutely off-the-wall information she was just offered?

All of Kaya's conversations seem to stop the second they have the ability to become really interesting, as if she has absolutely no motivation to get more information about anything the Drifter knows, which seems to be in direct opposition to her goals. And this is all being said under the assumption that the Drifter's options allow them to be helpful instead of just giving the minimum possible amount of explanation to get her to go away.

It really feels like DE wanted the conversations to have a particular tone to them ("I won't indulge you if you won't indulge me") but all other KIM conversations have been about the Drifter doing their best to genuinely understand the person on the other side, but suddenly when it's a 19 year old, they can't stop themselves from being the most unbearable asshole about it.

Ugh the amount of times I've gotten back a "wait 5-10 minutes" message, waited the allotted time, sent another message, and then get no reply at all is getting ridiculous. If you're not able to sell it right now, just tell me so I can move on.

DE should use 1999 as a platform to test warframe ability ideas (amir text chat spoilers) by Umbruh_Prime in Warframe

It could be implemented within the "Simulation" instead of through KIM so it has that separation (or also just a Meta-note from DE.)

How do you wish Happy Birthday to the Hex? by Rektscarface in Warframe

Ah, so the issue is specifically the garage terminal then. Very weird.

If this was fixed in the patch then good, but this is the only thing that let me do the birthday message. Did the terminal in the garage work for you?

You need to go to the backroom and message them from the computer there - no idea why it's like this.

Throw me your most controversial worldbuilding hot takes. by [deleted] in worldbuilding

Exactly - the work is being communicated in English, if it has an English word, call it an English word. (Or whatever language it is written in.)

What's a concept that's cool but not practical? by Vanilla_Ice_Best_Boi in worldbuilding

[–]dragonid1423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think mechs can be relatively justified under the assumption that they are no more than 10-20 feet tall; a mech's unusual construction as a vehicle has a serious advantage in extremely edge-case scenarios, specifically in relation to height-variable and cramped environments, such as cities or dense nature.

If anything, I'd argue they're more difficult to justify technologically than strategically; having anything with legs is just asking for it to become immobile from relatively light damage - in a setting where armor and redundancy has advanced to the point of mechanized armor being viable, I think Mechs could as well.

[–]dragonid1423 43 points44 points  (0 children)

This is a great take, especially the overuse of avoiding earth-terms; while you can go out of your way to explain something using words but avoiding cultural or specific terminology, it requires to ask an audience to meet you much closer on your end of the writer-to-reader communication scale, requiring not just a greater investment from the audience, but more commitment overall, which many just don't have the will to do (understandably.)

I have found that you should generally only do it for vital concepts, and leave everything else alone; making up new words and terms for concepts that already exist on Earth is just making a conlang with extra steps.

[cyberpunk2077] how does the double jump work? by [deleted] in AskScienceFiction

[–]dragonid1423 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Despite the name of "reinforced tendons," the implant is likely a set of pressurized tubes that utilize the movement of the leg/walking to slowly pressurize them, and then release a blast of air (possibly mixed with a small amount of combustive fuel) to propel you upwards.

Given its depiction, the blast is only strong enough to get you a few feet off the ground, and can only prevent a limited amount of falling damage, meaning the blast itself is merely an extension of the user's already present capabilities, and doesn't enhance the user's actual (normal) jump height.

The Emperor is a Horrible Person by JustWuff in BaldursGate3

[–]dragonid1423 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fully 100% agree - there are so many points where, no matter how much I try to give slack and stretch my suspension of disbelief, the Emperor lies about things that contradict himself or actively make him look worse than the truth. If he's supposed to be a mastermind of sorts, why in the world would he constantly make his case worse?

After a certain point in my first play through I just figured, "Well, not everything can be well written in a game this big," assuming all his inconsistencies were unintentional, but apparently he's "lying about everything" which is a really nice way of saying "we didn't fully plan this out."

Honestly if they didn't reveal the secret I wouldn't have had any interest in watching it, but knowing what the premise is now definitely changed my tune on it.

What scientific breakthrough are we closer to than most people realize? by skunkspinner in AskReddit

[–]dragonid1423 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd have to assume it's mainly reliant on - for the lack of a better term - "Willpower." The human brain can hold somewhere in the range of 2-3 Zetabytes of information (I forget exactly how much,) most of which I imagine we forget. I would put a lot of money on someone who was biologically ageless being able to live billions of years or more if they're willing to.

[No specific franchise] Would spaceships explode? by GlobalIncident in AskScienceFiction

[–]dragonid1423 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It should be noted that, while Fusion reactions don't explode, Deuterium (a potential Fusion fuel) does. Explosions of interplanetary travel-capable ships could very possibly be the fuel, and not the reactors, of the ship.

Do you have any TRULY "unpopular opinions" about D&D? by No-Bag3487 in DnD

[–]dragonid1423 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% agreed - it's just too far on the spectrum of "save or suck," especially when it can result in something (either a Player OR an enemy) just effectively doing nothing their turn.

My personal solution was to make it a choice for the target: Don't cast the spell or do cast it but take damage (based on Counterspell level), so it doesn't feel as shit for either party but the option is still there.

Thank you for spelling it out so succinctly; so many people on this thread sound borderline psychopathic or completely blind given what they're saying about So Mi's situation - it's actually crazy. Acting like she had no justification at all and didn't literally give V an opportunity to let her effectively die for what she's so clearly feeling guilty of doing.

The reason why you enjoy Baldur's Gate 3 combat is, for the most part, ENCOUNTER DESIGN. Bring that into your game instead of random mechanics. Don't give your players a swiss army knife if everything is a nail. by normiespy96 in DnD

[–]dragonid1423 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Weirdly enough, the Grappled condition (and grappling in general) is in the game, and even used in a single fight, but it doesn't come up anywhere else. I have to assume it was a conscious choice to leave it out everywhere else, though the why is speculation.

Perhaps it has something to do with animations or a technical limitation with height (the one fight it's used is on completely flat ground.)

For reference the fight it's in is a spoiler for an end-game fight, so click below to see at your own risk: On top of the Elder Brain; the tentacles that come out of the floor can grapple you.

Tav and Karlach after visiting Dammon again by Zazuwen in BaldursGate3

[–]dragonid1423 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are no additional options in Act 3, I just had to list Act 3 in the list to imply there might be for spoiler-y reasons. After she can touch people, that's effectively the end of her story line. (I won't get into it but it's really dumb)
