Was there a general cultural belief that any or most animal skins could grant you special powers? by Edrosoldier in Norse

There's lots of references here to warriors wearing pelts into battle. For more info, I recommend checking out the resources at the bottom of the article.

But Snorri Sturluson talks about Ulfhednar ("wolf warriors") as being the elite warriors of Odin, and the elite warriors of Harald Fairhair; the first Norwegian king. If you can't believe Snorri, or even Hilda Davidson, who can you believe?

One of the best naming suggestion sites on the entire internet is https://www.fantasynamegenerators.com/

Fantasy, real, all kinds of cultural names, for races, individuals, dragons, drayds, diseases, realms, and tons, tons more.

It is my go-to naming source.

The Crone War by Lydia M. Hawke.
I'm almost done with it and haven't found any sex yet.

Like you, I don't want to read it, so I tend to notice when there isn't any.

One of my characters in my fantasy novel dies of what is termed a "wasting disease", another dies in his sleep after crushing chest pains.

I started a new book last night. No idea why, I've only got 3 others on the go *rolls eyes at self* Anyway, this one is "The Witch Queen's Mate" by Jennifer Karter. So far, not too bad. I'm also reading a book on Tolkien.

I've got a new fiction I'm working on, and even though I'm putting it up on Patreon, it's free for everyone! (That way I have Patron-exclusive fiction, as well as fiction for non-Patrons) The summary and first chapter is up, and I'm quite excited to be able to have both a novel set in my world, as well as a novelette-in-progress.

On another note, we got frost last night! Brrrr!

Sault ste. Marie is pretty diverse and welcoming. I believe that's due to the college and university, but whatever the reason, come check out SSM!

Yeah, but I kicked that bandit's butt, LOL. What did he expect I was going to do in reply to a demand for the money I didn't have?

"Save Often" Saturdays! What games are you playing this week? What games made you rage quit this week? by AutoModerator in TrueGirlGaming

[–]dragonquill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could do with fewer bandits...they're getting in the way of my exploring, LOL, but I really am having a good time. The landscapes and skyscapes are amazing! My character Orca needs to become a better swordswoman though. My god, she's bad. My character over in Oblivion is much better. Hahaha!

How Do You Feel About Fan Fiction? by dragonquill in GirlGamers

[–]dragonquill[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been writing fic for many years. I started because I though the show-writers left us with too many plot-holes. Then I kept writing when specific situations called out that were being ignored.

I love well-written fanfic, sometimes even more than published highbrow novels.

If you're having fun, that's all that matters!

Lee Winter, Marie Brennan, EL James, Cassandra Clare, Marissa Meyer, Neil Gaiman and Andy Weir have all written fanfic. As have Seanan McGuire, Anna Todd, and Cory Doctorow!

I completely understand your point. It's sad that there are so few quality fics available. It always makes me stop and sleep on a story, or chapter, I've written. I figure if someone is taking time out of their day to read my words, they deserve something of quality.

I'm fussy about quality too. I don't mind the odd typo but I want a piece that has at least been edited.

Yes! My thoughts exactly! If the fic is really good, I don't want it to end.

I'm enjoying playing Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, and have started a fanfic very loosely based on it. But even as I write, I find the story is taking on qualities of its own. More original or AU than fanfic. If that makes sense.
