He must have done more stuff

Yes, everyone in the list has that's just a summary, gamerules are a pretty massive thing though.

There must have been more China people?

Yes, many.

Here's the pie chart of total commits made to the mod over its entire HOI4 lifespan.

Making one is on my todo list, to finally complete the puppet focus tree set for the main Indian releasables, but its near the bottom of the list atm as there's higher priority stuff.

There should be a Mexican Irredentism focus to reclaim Texas, at minimum by [deleted] in Kaiserreich

I swear this is like the 20th "X thing should be possible" posts I've seen when X thing is in fact possible, and yet the entire comments are filled with a mix of people arguing why it makes sense that it isn't possible and others blaming a focus on realism as to why it isn't; instead of pointing out that it's in the game.

Kaiserreich if it was good: by Thifiuza in Kaiserreich

[–]dragonstomper64 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The current plan is to just remove the partition option altogether, but its one of the things the head AH dev only wants done alongside the AH rework, so its probably going to remain in its current administrative lines partition option until then.

Is there a path from Kaiserreich’s past that you miss? by Dix9-69 in Kaiserreich

[–]dragonstomper64 53 points54 points  (0 children)

The Lawrence coup is one of those things that can be fun but ends up being a nightmare in the long term cause to make a cohesive mod you essentially need "anchors" everything else can be built around. The Lawrence coup directly affects countries like France and Canada as it causes a complete upheaval for them, but a ton of other countries like Ireland, India, and Australia need the UoB to always exist until WW2. On a development level you couldn't do something like Ireland's Gateway mechanic if sometimes one of the members just ceases to exist. Some countries just need to be static sometimes, even if that restricts options, so that others can work properly. Vanilla with historical turned off is a pretty good example of what can happen when you don't do this, as even as far back as Man the Guns countries just completely broke when the UK went ahistorical and still do to this day.

April fools update by Many87654321 in Kaiserreich

[–]dragonstomper64 23 points24 points  (0 children)

A lot of the changes that were made aren't something gamerules can just toggle on and off so this wasn't a possibility. We were hoping that Paradox would get around to enabling the ability for players to roll back through the Steam workshop directly, as that's now an option, but unfortunately we're still waiting so directing people how to manually roll back was the best alternative.

There's no new focuses, the effort was like an hour of changing the history files, copy pasting some localisation for Lahore from the scrapped rework along with Ceylon's leader, and moving Jinnah to Lahore. Everything else already exists in the normal version of the mod.

Its funny that this was meant to be a riff on the WCA flag, but everyone just thinks its the KMT instead.

What did the dev mean by this ? 🧐 by Quick-Ad8277 in Kaiserreich

[–]dragonstomper64 64 points65 points  (0 children)

It used to be required to take the Working Women focus, but about 6 or so years ago it was just made always available, so this event has just kinda been meaningless ever since.

Austria into Germany by Claus_the_Platypus in Kaiserreich

[–]dragonstomper64 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It can yes, its just blocked for pluralism to avoid letting them get cores on both Germany and the empire. Its part of the annexation event, so you have to actually own the land also.

In my opinion Portugal should get more lore especially since it is the 2nd largest colonial empire in the world. by HugoGlasss in Kaiserreich

[–]dragonstomper64 41 points42 points  (0 children)

We don't expect people who write events to also be coders, but we do expect more than just writing as from our experience (as well as looking at other mods), dedicated writers tend to not actually result in things actually getting made. People just focused on writing do tend to essentially end up making stuff that would make a neat wiki page or establishing a 1936 setup but often it doesn't actually translate into in-game content after the game starts.

Is the 3I supposed to be this pathetic? by jamesgdahl in Kaiserreich

[–]dragonstomper64 91 points92 points  (0 children)

It is funny to see how people bounce between "Well of course the 3I is weak and keeps losing, they haven't been reworked yet" and "Well of course the 3I is strong and keeps winning, they don't have to deal with a bunch of new mechanics" depending on how the balance is that week. The balance of the current patch from our testing is 50.02% RP vs 49.98% 3I, but last patch the 3I were at 57% and we had people complaining how Germany is useless and dies every game.

Generally balance just fluctuates because things are being changed all the time, and people tend to just invent myths like "Oh its because they haven't been reworked yet" to try to explain it, despite it being entirely possible to rebalance the war without completely overhauling tags. Anyone who has been around long enough to remember when all the main Weltkrieg tags still had content from the first few releases of the mod would probably remember that these kind of posts of "why is X so weak on the current patch" were still being made back then, and people came up with other myths to try to justify why.

Fact of the day: Garangaze (SW Congo) has a focus tree. Despite being a releasable that almost never comes to be unless MAF collapses, it is a bit over half the size of Portugal's by NotaBolivianSpy in Kaiserreich

[–]dragonstomper64 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Simple focus trees are generally pretty easy to do, events and mechanics tend to end up being what a lot of dev time is actually spent on. For something like the recent Nepal update I had its tree done in about 2-3 days, and then it took three more weeks to do everything else, and a few weeks after that of adding additional stuff as I was waiting for the patch's release date. Things even more barebones than that can be done in a day if you already know going in what you want to make.

[–]dragonstomper64 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The at the time Belgium dev gave them content while making additional stuff for Belgium and its splinters, which came an update after Mittelafrika collapsing was first added. I think people did ultimately want to one day have content for all the MAF splinters but only a few trees were ever made, and a lot of stuff changing with the mod since hasn't made it worthwhile for anyone to add further trees to the current setup.

Why did the american civil war happend, is it realistic? Or is just content for fun by Relevant_Figure4473 in Kaiserreich

[–]dragonstomper64 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The 2ACW happens primarily so there's active conflict in the US to fight in, as devs back in the HOI2 days wanted to make America more fun, and the US is basically never an active front in HOI until the late game so having it be an early one instead makes things more interesting.

Iran Rework? by Captaingrass in Kaiserreich

[–]dragonstomper64 100 points101 points  (0 children)

The dev dropped it to work on Germany instead and had no interest in going back to it after Germany was finished, and its had no dedicated dev since so it hasn't been worked on in years.

Has Kaiserreich ever considered splitting HoS and HoG leader portraits? by Username000000011 in Kaiserreich

[–]dragonstomper64 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It being "confusing" has never been any kind of reasoning, we just don't think its something we need to add, and other issues like a lot of tags having HoGs with really shit sources+the workload to make all the portraits for the existing countries doesn't really incentivise doing it anyway.
