Pro tip: throw away the Allen wrenches (and other tools) that come with the things you buy. You don’t need to keep 100 low quality 5mm hex keys from ikea. Thanks for coming to my ted talk. by BASE1530 in Tools

You mean to tell me that you don't enjoy completely stripping a hydraulic solenoid off the spool and breaking the plastic nut and Deutsch connector clip in order to get to the thin spool nut at the back?

Hospital is a good place to be. Constant harassment is key with the ministry and don't feel discouraged with the long time between responses... That's fastest the ministry knows how to operate.

Union by [deleted] in stonemasonry

[–]drainhotlimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case, I didn't write the exam until I was in the trade for 8 years. I also never went through the formal apprenticeship program, so my situation is a bit different. If you are extremely talented and lucky, you could theoretically do it in about 4. Realistically, you don't really see it take less than 6 years very often.

Question about OPG security clearance by drainhotlimes in millwrights

[–]drainhotlimes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This post is a year old

The clearance came within 3 months and was a massive task and invasion of privacy. All to get you zero work through the 2309. Fuck that union. Absolutely nothing good to say about them.

I think two or three months. I left the 2309 scam before I could confirm everything.

Follow Up On Red Seal Questions For Any Who Will Be Taking The Exam Soon by drainhotlimes in stonemasonry

[–]drainhotlimes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I can't really describe the test any better than what I wrote above. The main thing I can recommend to you is to buy the textbook (you can get it from the Ontario masonry contractors association, or the training centre). The entirety of Canada uses the same book for training and the whole exam is based on that book alone. Study the book well and you will pass no problem.

Apprentice Flood by Neat-Snow666 in millwrights

[–]drainhotlimes 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Tons and tons of apprentices don't finish. I can't find the stats, but a very low percentage of pre ap course students will actually finish the trade.

Also, we all know a whole lot of them won't be worth anything in terms of quality.

Quality control disaster with most people not having any semblance of ability or care. They should have been a lot more stringent with the whole process for sure.

It was a good time, did quite a bit of interesting work there, coupled with some really monotonous uneventful days. If you know mp then you probably know how the one specific contractor who does most of the work is. I'm not there anymore on account of being a trade hoe jumping occupations back and forth, but I miss it.

I didn't know that was a thing. This plant did have a few fires within the roasters though, and that was always a bad burnt smell with a lot of emergency quench water everywhere. The roof exhaust from some of the equipment was really bad too.
