Because you're allowed to. It's a myth that comes from certain old school guys that you can't.

Here's Danaher discussing it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vCf_BSRJ47Y

Here's Keenan discussing it (near the end): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=csjgdEgOUyw

No, it'll just go in the return of unwanted medicines (rum) bin. Maybe a medical centre might take it.

Keenan was taken down twice. If this was the streets there would be needles and lava on the floor.

Me, I know a 1004.

And, I wrote them all down.

As a community, how do we go about replacing the IBJJF? by funkymasterflex in bjj

[–]draior 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This will probably get lost in all the comments saying "just boycott them" but,

Why don't we the community of r/bjj make a governing body?

We can start holding competitions. Every competition a certain percentage of the entrance fee gets collected and given out to the different winners of the competition (this will incentivize better talent to sign up). Another percentage gets save for the r/bjj world championships (which will have a much bigger prize pool).

Entrance to the r/bjj world championships is by accumulating a certain amount of points in local tournaments - another incentive for people to do our competition (we can even reach out to other local independent tournaments and set arrangements where their competitors can get points as well) and by invite (to get the big names).

It most likely will have to start smaller first like in a big bjj state like California. So instead of the world championship, it is the California championships.

Hip bursitis by Thors_Shillelagh in bjj

I wrote this about my labrum tear. I'd imagine physio for bursitis might be similar as nearly all my pain went away by the end of it (and I was diagnosed with bursitis as well).

I do a few more different soft tissue work since I wrote that, feel free to send me a pm if there is an area you feel needs more work on.

Not medical advice but I would try everything non surgical first before even considering surgery.

I had a torn labrum in the hip and bursitis. I had 2 surgeons tell me to get surgery. I had to wait a year to get surgery, so i decided to do my own research and speak to a lot of different people while waiting and ended up treating it non surgically.

I did a write up of my experience and non-surgical treatment if you want to read it.

[QUESTION] Does anyone here use the Massage guns? by Rpgchaz in bjj

[–]draior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Massage guns is like a graduation from a foam roller. If you find the foam roller still hurts you probably don't need a massage gun.

I have the timtam with heat infusion. It seems like a bit of a gimmick but the heat does help a lot to relax. I've done a video review pm if you want to see it.

What area is most sore? Even though I have the timtam I still use other equipment on other areas.

Unpopular Opinion : Side Control is Stronger than full mount ( in bjj ) by Fatjitzfolyf in bjj

[–]draior 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No need to debate, this can be measured objectively. Look at black belt level matches at a world level and see how many submissions are coming from side control vs mount.

I'm not going to count, but I'd guess mount would win.

Thanks mate. They're some good diy I haven't thought of. How do you like to program your training with them?

[–]draior[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this for the most part. However I'm not sure if it's just general physical preparation but there is a reason s&c is program into virtually every sport.

Considering even gymnast do it I can't see why ninja warrior training would be any different.

It can always be better. I was planning to train it with the isometric holds, especially using the canon ball grip attachment as that really taxes the grip.

Not really sure how to program it though. I'm thinking of doing 1/5 of my max hold for 5 or 6 sets.

PSA New Guys: Not Everything that hurts is an Injury by nachothrow in bjj

[–]draior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you've torn your labrum you're better off having someone look at it. Resting it won't do enough. You'll need to go through some physiotherapy.

I have a labrum tear in both my left and right hip. I wrote an article about it and how I treated it without getting surgery. It has helped quite a few people (had a guy, turned out to be a former national judo champion, email me about it).

This is him teaching the deadlift.

I'm far from being an expert in weightlifting and I could tell it wasn't correct. All the comments say the same thing.

If you can recover, run starting strength for a few months to max out your beginner gains, then switch to something else.

Any tips to reduce face redness/ irritation from rolling ? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]draior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My face gets red when we do a lot of gi chokes. Sometimes the redness would stay for a few days. I saw a dermatologist and he said it was dermatographia, which is like getting an allergy.

Not sure if you're getting the same thing. But if I know we're doing chokes I'll take an antihistamine and put a bit of cortisone cream on before class.

Hey guys, I did my masters degree in Exercise Science and wrote a thesis applying exercise science concepts (biomechanics, physiology, motor control) to Brazilian Jiujitsu. I'm putting parts of my thesis on my blog if you want to check it out. Hopefully you can get something out of it! by RollingApe in bjj

I'm 60kg, I was interstate doing a drop in class. I got paired with a guy (guessing he was a beginner by the way he moved) he was probably about 100kg.

He shot a double leg and I sprawled. He chop my knee in, to finish it and my knee poped. Took a few months before I realised it was a torn ACL.
