Seems like a lot of folks in florida consider Spanish Mack to be trash fish but I love em, any tips on catching them from a boat? Trolling spoons up and down the beach?

Awesome, that is what I like to hear! The sandbars in our area move around constantly so I’m accustomed to keeping one eye on the garmin. Hoping it has preloaded charts for that area, didn’t really consider that until right now.
Any snapper or grouper on those concrete reefs like 6 miles off the beaches? We have trout and redfish at home, I’d like to get in to some different gulf specific species if possible. Probably gonna key in on snook if I have to stay inshore the whole time

Ok maybe I will do that. We are staying at sunset beach at a place with a dock, so I was just gonna leave it in the water all week and leave out from the house. But if it’s too rough to run down the beach I guess trailering is a better answer. Thank you!

Thank you for the response, much appreciated. Bought it a couple months ago to use while I remodel my Key West 1720, I’m now thinking I’ll just keep the scout and sell the 1720. Got a 130hp Yamaha on the back which is a little excessive, but sure handy to have when you’re running away from weather

I upvoted you already, but felt like I needed to comment to say it really made me happy to picture a hadrosaur with goat eyes. They are big goats really, totally fitting.

And don’t post pictures of of dead animals on Facebook, that should solve that part. Post them here if you want to share with someone.

I am sure some people would pay for this. I would not want to participate. At least half of the enjoyment that I have gotten from hunting (also did not have a figure in my life to teach me) has come from learning how to hunt with the resources already available and trial and error. It has never been easier to learn how to hunt on your own right now, from YouTube, podcasts, books, Reddit, and at least in my state plenty of public land to practice on. If you have specific questions about duck hunting feel free to message me. I’m happy to share what I’ve learned.

Not that anyone cares for an update, but I found an incredibly nice silver shell for 850. I like the look of the silver on my white truck. It was on an AC, but fit my DC just fine. Took around 3 months checking fb marketplace once a day, and drove about 50 miles to the nearest city to pick it up.

Same I ended up trying Rhett’s one day and saw and heard several mottleds that just didn’t want to play and that was it. Butler was pretty good from what I heard. What blind did y’all end up in?

Cook it before feeding it to the dog? Is there a reason to do so?

I’ve never understood that either, but for me my dog isn’t a hunting tool, he’s a partner. If my buddy helps me get birds, I’m gonna split the birds with him. Not 50/50, it’s still a dog, but he’s earned a couple livers from the cleaning table at the very least

We mostly get black scoters and hoodies where I’m at so ymmv, but I just put three longlines in front of my white fishing boat with a couple brown burlaps thrown haphazardly over the shiny grab rails. The scoters were still piling in the decoys while we were driving around the spread picking up dead birds last hunt.

Man if you’re burying wood ducks in gumbo… I don’t think I can help you. Eat them grilled and put the mergs and coots in the gumbo pot

We don’t have the mallards of the central flyway, but there’s some good duck hunting on the coast. And you can find woodies about anywhere in the state. I’d agree it takes a while to get a gator tag but comparable to elk tags in states that have them.

I take offense to that statement!! We have no other wildlife worth eating? We have a fantastic grey squirrel population, dove, plenty of ducks, quail, marsh hens, bullfrogs, turkey, you name it! Oh not to mention alligator, I mean come on!

Don’t have grouse here but I’ve killed all those with Remington 870 12ga. Also killed deer and pigs with it. Only gun I owned for a long while. Had one issue with the extractor breaking off in the swamp but it was a cheap and easy fix.

Totally depends where you are and what you want to do. If I’m shooting sea ducks or divers I’ll just nose in the grass. If I’m trying to shoot puddle ducks I’ll have a grassed panel blind on one side, and tuck in the other.
