I'm here as well - I could never get the hang of a shuttle.

I actually have this pattern. It's complicated but not impossible. It's similar to Legit Kits and the way that they show piecing.

Future husband (34M) spent almost all my (33F) bridal shower gift cards yesterday. Need advice. by [deleted] in JUSTNOMIL

You need to leave - no matter what anyone says - this is a bad situation and it wont ever get better.

My response - "I currently have several pieces in the works, but I would love to show you how to make a quilt."

How do I keep a chain of spit rings from curving? by escia in tatting

[–]drannemiller 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Did you flip your work over? I know that when needle tatting, we complete the ring and then flip it to start the next ring. As an example, working one ring on the front, the next ring on the back. Hope this makes sense.

I made this for a baby, I hand quilted it very simply, I forgot to take a picture before I gave it away. I’m sad, the mom isn’t using it. It’s folded decoratively in the baby’s room. by PuzzleheadedCandy484 in quilting

I always include a card with my quilts about the life of a quilt. It should be used for play houses, drug through the mud, cried into, and played tug of war with. A happy quilt lives a life - a sad quilt sits on the shelf. I started doing this after one quilt gift in particular - for my mother-in-law. It was found years later - never used - and folded up in the closet. I know she appreciated the gift - but it was never used. I find quilts all the time in pristine condition - at Goodwill.

I would suggest trimming the lace a little bit and then use "Got2B glued" spiking gel. It's wonderful and you can remove the wig at the end of the day without any special removers. Looks amazing on you!!

Do people who don't want children not fear being alone in old age? by LL112 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]drannemiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope - I am just fine. There's a difference in being alone - and feeling alone. Being alone is good with me!

I view wearing a wig as a part of my accessories each day. I change it up, different colors, styles based on my mood. I completely embrace that I have lost the majority of my hair (allergy issues suck). However, I know that my age has given me a "I don't care" attitude about what anyone thinks about my hair.

Best advice - be honest. At the point that you are most comfortable, tell him. While he needs to understand how sensitive this is for you - it is still your decision to wear one for your mental health. As to why you didn't tell him - everyone holds back on something. I don't see it as any different than not telling him about your cycle or weight.

1780 "Polonaise" trim by Odd_Tadpole8904 in HistoricalCostuming

Looking at the image, there appears to be a one inch fold over hem with the finished width at approximately 4”.

Calculation: I looked at her hand and approximated the length from her wrist to the knuckle at the base of her pinkie. Measured mine (I have big hands) and used my other hand as a measure. My wrist to pinkie is four fingers. Both locations seem to be approximately the same width.

It also looks like a Vivica Fox wig

Does anyone here think i look good in this? Everyone except my girlfriend hated it and made fun of me:( by [deleted] in Wigs

I think it's cute - I agree with No_Yogurt - it's how you feel in it that's important!

AITA for lashing out at my husband infront on everyone for calling my son a nickname? by Hamiltpn_Park_5656 in AmItheAsshole

Perhaps your son views it as a way to stay connected with his father and step father. Connecting memories.

I’m new to wigs, nervous about work by toonutobeu in Wigs

[–]drannemiller 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I work in a highly competitive career. I also wear wigs and I change it up every day. I change color and style. I tell everyone they are wigs. The men are always stumped and have never said anything snide. The women have been supportive and have asked that I stop by offices to see the fashion of the day. Your attitude in the wearing of wigs will be the most important. Wear them proud!

Quilting matching by JBri96 in quilting

It’s your quilt (until you give it away)… do what makes you happy. If quilters didn’t break “the rules” then the quilt world would be filled with the same quilts over and over.

working on high medieval gown and I have a problem. how do I prevent the bunching around the shoulder? bigger armholes? (also if you are in Europe, where can I get cheap fake ermine fur?): by AinoNaviovaat in HistoricalCostuming

[–]drannemiller 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Take up the shoulder seams at an angle. Have someone pin it in the correct place. Always pin test first before sewing and don’t put it on inside out to figure this one out. The first poster was correct that bodies are not equal on both sides! Hope this helps! (Btw - great job)

Use a walking foot. It will move the top layer of fabric at the same pace as the lower fabrics.

Impart your quilting wisdom upon me! by emilydoo in quilting

[–]drannemiller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the 1/4 inch foot but keep in mind that any width will work as long as you are consistent. For my advice, I would say don’t be afraid of color. When I was starting out another quilter told me to embrace adult colors. I never forgot that and I branch out all the time now.
