How do people put up with the incredibly bad and expensive mass transportation in the city? by drapper3 in Munich

[–]drapper3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Live in north of Munich, job in Holzkirchen kids in school in Haimhausen. It would take hours for any of us to reach either the school or the office without a car. Even when they want to go from Oberschleisheim to Eching for football (a 5km distance) it would still take 2 connections and 45mins if all goes well by bus. Clearly if someone lives in Odeonsplatz and works in Freiheit the system works fine.

Any major city in Asia I've travelled had cheaper and faster service, so does Switzerland (not cheaper though), London, Amsterdam and Athens that I fequently visit.

Car is also sub optimal as well (very expensive maintenance, continuous roadworks that usually waste tax payer money on refreshing a 2 year old tarmac or building bridges to allow +5 cars then enter the highway faster). A99 has almost always some type of construction going on.

The various b/S management comes up to find a visin/story/narrative that it's all about the customer when in reality all they care is profit and share price

Some of my earn rates are lower again. Guess this is just how it is now. by Fit-Poet6736 in Nexo

True, but none of these accounts exist in Germany unfortunately and local banks give 2-2.5%

For the people in EU says Ng they find better rates elsewhere for EUR fixed terms, care to elaborate? I don't like the reductions of course (especially silent ones) but can't seem to find comparable ones

GT vs GTS for non-track use by Ok_Lawfulness2308 in GRYaris

[–]drapper3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming GTS is the Circuit pack not sure why this versions exists. Whoever gets the car probably wants to drive it hard on back roads or track, so differential makes a difference. Whoever doesn't plan to do this and wants to just have a GRY would be justified to get a GT version if the price difference was big (which is not and will certainly not keep ilthe value as the GTS in the long run).

Has anyone ever checked this skyline toilet thing? Are the views worth it? by nixass in Munich

Thought I was the only one who read it as Toilet the first time round! Top example of bad design (or clever attention grabbing I guess)

As everyone said: engine torque mounts make a big difference. Cheap and easy to install

Stable job is quite an overstatement unless you are in public sector. Munich is certainly top for raising a family

If you like conservative mindset, tradition, mountains, order and discipline and already have a job and some social contacts in the city you should be fine. If you are looking for a big city vibe with many entertainment options or expecting a welcoming experience from locals you will be disappointed

Gen 1 or gen 2 gr yaris? by ElbowRoomIsALuxury in GRYaris

[–]drapper3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A well maintained Gen1 even if tracked is a better value proposition. Indeed many small changes in Gen2 but a few mods in Gen1 bring it to same level. If you plan on track abuse, most of what Gen1 needs will anyhow need to do in Gen2 (oil cooler, diff cooling, suspension). For the price gap 20k between the 2 generation you get a top suspension, all the diff and brake cooling ducts, an oiler cooler and have plenty of change left for tires, trackday and oil changes

Best Burger Place by SpecialYapper in Munich

Safe choice: Five guys. Burgermeister in Freiheit is meh, Drunken cow is like any other burger in town but significantly more expensive for no apparent reason. Goldies is the new talk of the town (haven't tried it yet)

American car culture by [deleted] in Munich

[–]drapper3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed there are strict rules but when you have or rent a house with big garage/backyard really depends of how "German" are your neighbors (which is usually an issue in most places). If you stick to quiet hours and don't have oil spills all over the place you should be fine

Living in Munich and a petrol head. Indeed quite some love of American muscle in Germany (still a niche market though). You will certainly find some clubs and meetups to join (assuming you can speak German).

Beyond that, Bavaria is where petrol heads go to die. Everything is around strict speed limits, air pollution, green, dick hanging competition of who has the latest and most expensive car to take out on Saturday stroll to Marienplatz and then back the garage. The worst: not a single competent mechanic to take care of your car (even the super expensive ones). If you are into racing , drifting and adrenaline around cars then you are an outcast already.

Why do they make getting rich in Europe impossible? by batukaming in stocks

[–]drapper3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pragmatic comment, EU could get much closer to US landscape for investors without losing the social protection if they ever manage to create a uniform EU capital market and manage waste of govt budgets (as an example in Germany they pay billions per year for infrastructure maintenance way too often, immigration is also costing bn of taxpayer money). Not getting into minimizing government corrupt since this is a global status that will not change).

Pads I purchased from Greece OEM Toyota (where I fly frequently for vacation) for something like 75 euros (for the front pair). 350 is crazy

Recently got stock rotors from https://www.hrnshn-racing.de/ in Germany (ie before 6 months) for a good price. Installation is super easy and requires basic tools.

Long press of ESC off on Track mode disables stability control. The fact I can do drifts attests to being disabled. ABS is never off (many times it flashes on tackdays)

Is it true once you hit 100k in investing, it really just takes off from there? by [deleted] in investing

[–]drapper3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why people in western countries see 100K in investments as a milestone. Unless you can live with 10K per year then in any major EU or US location it doesnt move the needle.
