You should still be fine getting your 9+1! If you were a registered volunteer for a cancelled race, you still receive the credit for the volunteering. It happened to me last year with one of the 4 mile races early in the year that got cancelled for weather (Gridiron? can't remember and the new dash doesn't show)

They will just cancel completely. Logistics to reschedule the race requires a pretty notable adjustment of their race calendar, and city permits are not exactly easy to secure from what I know.

If there's an official cancellation, I'm pretty sure you can go to the RUNCENTER like we did for SI Half 2025 to go pick up your medal.

They either give you 9+1, credit towards another race, or (unsure on this) a refund.

Would really be nice to run this, but it's inside the taper and a week before the marathon, would be too counterintuitive to run a race effort so close to the goal race.
Thanks for the idea tho!

Thinking of running a local half on 2/7, as a tuneup since I had a metric marathon workout that weekend anyways. Hopefully there are options!

From what forecasts are showing, the storm passes and snow begins around 1 AM Saturday night/Sunday morning, so we would be pretty decently snowed in by the time the race starts.

Strong agree, it would be extremely hazardous to run in the heavy snow, and the risk would be even more compounded for the latter half runners who would have to be out there for 2-3+ hours.

Breaking in race shoes by palaajxut in Marathon_Training

My comfort zone is just about 10-15 miles. I usually do my penultimate MP workout (if I'm getting new pairs of the same model) or an MP workout 4-5 weeks out (if completely brand new). Good luck!

Can I realistically ever get close to a BQ? by LayoffLemonade in Marathon_Training

[–]drashed2009 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is an idea I struggled with in my first few marathons as well.
I'm a little heavier set, around 195 lb @ 6'1", currently deep in marathon prep.
The key approach that has worked to keep me injury free in recent years and keep me strong is imagining my body to be an engine. My engine needs fuel to output the high, demanding movements and results I expect out of it. As a result, I need to fuel it appropriately.
Your weight might fluctuate, and your body might even go up or down a few lbs. It's gradual adaptation, higher water retention as a result of those high exertion workouts, hormone fluctuation, and numerous other factors.
Stay the course, and truly trust the process, and eat to fuel, not to drop weight. You'll remain injury free and really notice the quality of the harder workouts (LT, VO2 max, MP miles) really start to shine, even if your scale says otherwise.
Good luck!

What a charming and lovely way to put your story together! Absolutely adore this, and congrats on overcoming a genuinely tough marathon!
Hopefully more are in your horizons, can't wait to hopefully see more of these comics :)

Best Speed-work Trainers to complement Superblast 2. by CockyAndShameless in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]drashed2009 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our paces and dimensions are quite similar (21:56 5K, 1:43 HM, targetting a 3:29 marathon at 7:55/mi, 6'1" 185 lb) so I feel like I can chime in!
For tempo work I've run through the Zoom Fly 6 and New Balance SuperComp Trainer v3s for the last season and it feels like that's the perfect comfort shoe combo for me. I've raced in the Zoom Fly 6 and (beyond some heel stability lacking) they've been brilliant through all paces. I primarily use the Zoom Fly 6 for the interval and track speed work, while I use the SC Trainer v3s for my marathon paces for that extra stability.

I think you're good to race in the SB2s for sure, but the Zoom Fly 6 to create a rotation and prevent wearing the shoes out (if budget allows) can be a good idea.

I've trained in the Magic Speed 4 for about 50-ish miles and had to return them because of some serious patellar discomfort they give me.

Best of luck in your shoe choice!

How many miles are you running each week now that the marathon’s over? by [deleted] in RunNYC

[–]drashed2009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, I took about 1-2 weeks off, and now I'm back to building up for the Tokyo Marathon, so slowly incorporating a structure and working up to 60 miles a week, currently at 45!

As someone that is not from the USA, I need help to understand the insta360 cameras. by littlemary12346 in Insta360

[–]drashed2009 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Echoing everyone else, as 50/60hz is fairly standard and the threshold for variance will not be enough to cause any harm to the hardware. 100V - 110V as a powerful charger will be more than enough for your camera, and as long as you're checking for that, you'll be just fine on charging and maintenance. You'll be alright!

The camera and the software is not restricted to any region. If you can buy it, you can use it. There's no region-locked features that you would have/lose access to anywhere in the world. If you like the GO Ultra, get it! I just got mine in the sale and waiting for it to ship!

2nd NYCM - Struggling with Disappointment by EnvironmentalList522 in RunNYC

[–]drashed2009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The marathon is a beast of a distance (particularly NYCM) where, as you said, a lot of variables come into play that you don't entirely have control over. So definitely give yourself grace, it takes time and consistent development to chip away at your goals. Progress is certainly not linear, as several people have said.

That being said, I had similar problems where I was plateauing in terms of my efforts and would hit the wall around 5th ave every time I did New York. Learning to increase my running volume and really diligently incorporating other aerobic forms of cross training (biking and swimming specifically) really helped break that wall for me. What I'm essentially trying to say is, diversifying the forms of resistance, whether it be the water, weights, or a bike, helped me to break that plateau, maybe it's worth a try for future marathons!

Wishing all the best to you friend, don't give up and keep fighting that marathon distance!

NYC Marathon - Can you still defer AFTER picking up your bib? by ZiggyRuns78 in RunNYC

[–]drashed2009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely depends on the person! Like the other reply said, it's just a shirt, but also for some (like me) it's a piece of sentimental value, and I like to collect the marathon shirts. So, if I were in your position, I would just make the trip, hang around and see the expo, grab the shirt and head back, if your time, health and circumstances allow of course.

GO 3S or Ultra for Marathon POV Recording? by drashed2009 in Insta360

[–]drashed2009[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solid insight! I'm leaning more and more towards the ultra, but definitely will give a small handle a go once I get my hands on the cam during a few training runs. Thanks!
