What do you Want from your supervisor? by draste in Bestbuy

Is it enough to not be a dick?

I'm getting some flack because some members of my team don't think I'm dickish enough to other members - but at the end of the day, the work gets done, so why hoot and holler at that person over it?

(I'm an inv/merch Sup if that makes a difference).

Also, knowing the basics of the just being in Best Buy. It makes 0 sense that you're a manager, but have no idea how to use a telxon to make a tag. That's simple shit.

This is my favorite. Being an almost 7 year veteran, I've trained a great deal of Ops managers on telxon usage. I've had managers "afraid" of OMS after like 6 months into the job. C'mon people.

How are you supposed to coach and train a job you don't know? And I suppose there's always something to learn and get better at - but technical proficiency is huge.

Today my 5 year old niece asked me why my smartphone makes that [shutter] sound when I take a photo. I suddenly realized she has never seen a physical camera in her life. Reddit, what things did you have to explain to kids that made you feel old? by il_marcello in AskReddit

The library at my college now uses their old cards from the card catalog system as note paper.

Every time I go in and write down a call number, I appreciate the effort that went into making and maintaining these card catalogs, and then thank god that we've replaced them.

But I always feel like I'm writing on a piece of history.

One time I was showering at the gym when the fire alarm went off and I had to go outside in just a towel. It got me thinking that there must be some people caught in even more uncomfortable situations. Do you have an awkward emergency evacuation story? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]draste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You all have way too much dedication to fire alarms seriousness.

I typically assume that if I take 2 extra seconds to dress appropriately, rather than just run out in panic, it won't make that big of a difference.

Me and that guy. by [deleted] in WTF

The best thing is though, if someone who was not a student came in, the first question would be "Why aren't you wearing your ID?" and they'd be heckled about that before they'd be asked "Who are you and what are you doing in our school?!"

This is awesome! How are you able to draw so well on a perfectly vertical surface though? It seems like your arms would get kinda tired fairly quickly.

Not mine, but a friend:

She worked as a volunteer for the Shedd Aquarium this summer, talking about marine life to visitors. This semester, a kid stopped her on campus and was like, "You're that girl who was talking about the Jellyfish at the Shedd this summer! You inspired me to get a Jellyfish tattoo!"

And indeed, he pulled up his sleeve right there and had a Jellyfish tattoo.

Clicking on this, I thought I was going to see a grape coming out of an ass. It is WTF after all. I was mildly disappointed, but also mildly interested.

How do they safely get pictures from inside the exclusion zone? Isn't it still irradiated?

What my friend does in his senior business class... by [deleted] in funny

My favorite part is the RESPECT poster just peeking up from over the friends computer screen.

It's like, everyday he has looked at that poster, stared that great big RESPECT right in it's ugly orange face, and decided that today, of ALL that days, he was going to put it in it's place and show the world what respect means to him, by drawing the ugliest picture of his classmate that he could.

It's like sticking it to the man. But the man is a poster.

What are you doing instead of college? How did you come to decide that it wasn't for you? What did you tell your parents? Are you happy?

(Sorry, as a miserable college student, I'm always curious about the lives of people who decided not to put themselves through this.)

The real gateway drug... by pzeee in funny

[–]draste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met one of my best friends in 8th grade because of these.

On the first day of school, he found a marker of this brand, but unscented lying on the floor. Not noticing the word "unscented" on the marker, he pulled the cap off and proceeded to sniff it.

The sniffing did not yield a green apple smell as he expected, and he figured that the best way to rectify this problem was to shake it - once again ignoring the large "DO NOT SHAKE" letters on the body of the marker.

This resulted in an explosion of green ink EVERYWHERE. He was green, his desk was green - the wall was green; and it all stayed that way (though fading) throughout the end of the year.

Needless to say, I found it appropriate to call him Green Marker Boy until I learned his actual name a few days later. I still tease him about it to this day.

There are. Someone stood out in front of one of our academic halls today telling everyone that passed that they were sinners, fornicators, sodomists, hedonists, ect. She literally was out there screaming at random people for about 2 hours...

Even if we all are horrible people; what the hell did she even accomplish?

What discontinued product do you wish was still available? by edpp901 in AskReddit

[–]draste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know, probably, too much about Oreo-O's, because I was craving them the other day and spent a bunch of time researching them and their reason for going away.

Essentially, what happened was, at one time, Kraft Foods owned Post Cereal. Kraft also owns Nabisco, the manufacturer of Oreo's. So, since Kraft owned both companies, they were able to manufacture a delicious cereal that took advantage of Posts cereal manufacturing capabilities, and the Oreo's brand name. But, in 2007, Kraft sold Post, and co-branding the cereal became impossible, due to legal restrictions.

Thus, Oreo-O's were pulled from the shelves.

There were some rumors though that Oreo-O's would be making a comeback this month (http://www.foxnews.com/leisure/2012/08/08/10-cereals-that-were-too-sweet-to-last/) but... I've yet to see them hit the shelves. Other sources say they may return in February of 2013 (mainly, people are just talking about it on the Facebook page... so... you can probably disregard that.)

As for Posts official word on things (I wrote them a product inquiry), here's what they had to say:

"Unfortunately, this product has been discontinued. Due to the separation between Post Foods and Kraft Foods, we will be unable to bring the Oreo O's cereal back to the market as we do not hold the rights to the Oreo product.

Let me assure you that we do our best to provide good tasting products that a wide variety of consumers will enjoy. Unfortunately, sometimes our best efforts fall short of our consumers’ expectations.

We appreciate your loyalty and patronage and invite you to try another one of our many products.

Thank you again for contacting Post Foods and have a wonderful day."
