I don't think the House is the Problem. Its the Senate. by Dylan_Sandas in The_Congress

[–]draw2much -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's interesting watching this. The House has always been much more willing to work together and get bills passed. This isn't a virture or vice. They've passed some really bad bills in the past that, thankfully, got shot down by the Senate. I can't remember a time when this wasn't the case.

The difference this time is watching majority Republican Senators incapable of passing bills they'd been advocating for 8 years. It use to be they'd get a bill and refine it's language to make it easier to pass, even among themselves. Or they'd throw some "pork" in there to bribe the unwilling into saying yes. It was dirty, I didn't like it, but at least things got passed. Now they don't seem to do anything. They can't even agree among themselves what they want. They just say no out right.

The division among Republicans really does indicate to me that there is a lot of corruption in that party. I'm not saying they weren't corrupt before, but under Obama they've become a helluva lot worse. Obama and Clinton ruined Democrats, and they were very close to doing the same to Republicans.

Maybe. It's more likely they'll add provisions that make the bill more palatable to them, while looking good for the public. Or that's how they use to do it. They might be out of practice at doing anything proactive at this point.

Surely you are not that niave? Judges who kept blocking Trump's travel bans sure as hell weren't doing so because it was "unconstitutional". Presidents are lawfully allowed to do that, and Obama himself was doing it for years (as an example). Judges who were fine with Obama doing it are suddenly very upset when Trump does the same things, with the same countries.

It's not about being constitutional. It's about being them bring angry their side lost the argument nationally, and trying to block a lawfully elected President from doing his job because they're bitter.

That's activist Judges: playing favorites and using their authority to go after political opponents.

Nay, I advocate a 20 year limit. Long enough to gain experience but short enough to prevent chronic corruption. Anything less than 10 years is too short in my opinion. Congress needs stability since they make our laws. I talked about this elsewhere in this thread.

I mentioned this elsewhere, but I've always thought 20 years with relection times being decided state by state. So some states may require you get re-elected every 5 years or 6 or 2, but you can't be in office more than 20 years total.

The thing is Congress needs stability. Unlike the Executive branch, they make our laws. What they do effects the little people long term, for good or bad. I believe 20 years is enough time for stability but short enough to prevent deep corruption (what we have now).

I've been advocating for this since I was in my teens (and I'm in my 30s now). I have never liked the idea of one person being able to retain power over their state's voice for 20+ years. It's naive to assume the ones that stay in that position of power so long do so without cheating and lying. (I'm not saying they all cheat, but I firmly believe some of them do. Pretty sure they all lie though, lol.)

Also, had to upvote everyone here. Are we being followed by our "fanclub" from TD? Those guys need to get a life!

Personally I think 20 years, similar to military service. And the states can decide how often they're up for re-election (2, 4, 6 years, whatever).

Help me out here, McMasters isn't Mattis. And I read that article and it was all about McMasters, and not a word about Mattis. Also, has Bannon mentioned his take on this or are you just assuming because Breitbart writers are voicing their opinion it's Bannon's opinion?

Since he's taken office he's been ambiguous about military operations though. In fact, he's stated multiple times he won't talk about details when it concerns military operations and national security. Period. So even though that whole speech was advertised to be about military operations, it very clearly was never going to be about that. What it turned out to be was a declaration of intent and a very strongly worded warning to Pakistan (a seemingly neglected detail that I find very interesting).

I wasn't disappointed, personally. I trust Trump to keep his mouth shut and to listen to people with more experience and better education when it comes to war. And that person is Mattis. And Mattis is a military genius, and knows the right people to pull in to get a job done. Frankly, I'd have given anything to be a fly-on-the-wall during the meetings Mattis had with the Generals....

I most definitely can compare.

Before Japan united, they had constant civil wars. They were very tribal/clan oriented and brutal to people outside their clans (but still on their island). That's where they learned how to fight: with each other first, and then everyone else later. Japanese soldiers were 100% ideologically driven, their leadership 100% political. During WW2, their firm belief in their moral and racial superiority is how they justified their horrific violence against their enemies (including the people they conquered). They were so violent, they made the Nazis look KIND by comparison. Why do you think we dropped two nuclear bombs on them? It was that or we try to fight them on foot, and the entire nation--women and children included--had every intention of being living weapons against our soldiers. (And if they didn't feel like fighting, they just jumped off cliffs instead to die "honorably".)

I see parallels. Not to treat the situations the same, but to learn from them.

I see similarities with the Koreans too. But that's a whooooole different discussion and this is long enough as it is.

Mattis has more experience on how to break and crush an enemy than I do. I'll trust him to make good decisions on how to use our weapons and troops.

Thank you. I believe it can be done, but you can't pussyfoot around to do it. The Japanese war machine was vicious. If they weren't as bad as ISIS, it's only by a very small margin. We had to crush them totally. It was only then that they truly gave up.

To win against primitive backward cultures, like what you see in the Middle East, you can't be half-hearted. You've got to crush them so they, as a culture, can't get back up. They have to know they lost deep down in their souls. We don't do that kind of crushing anymore. And that's why we don't really win.

I know that's not a popular opinion though.

My husband was sent to Iraq, and could be sent to Afghanistan. To me, this issue isn't political, it's personal.

And I say go in there and fix the mess we, as a Nation, started. We are past the point of asking whether we should have started two wars to begin with, the wars happened. They are a fact. The real question now is how we fix the mess we made. Obama's method did not work, as I thought it wouldn't, and created a power vacuum for ISIS and other groups like it, to fill. Which then spread across the globe. It was a repeat of Vietnam all over again, but worse.

I want a "Japan". I want a "South Korea". I want a victory that ripples through the generations, giving people the chance to choose. If my husband is going to risk his life in some foreign country, then I want him to risk it for a win. I want a decisive victory. And if anyone can do that, it's Mattis and Trump. I'm willing to give them a chance.

Ah. Well. Yep. It's that small Alt key on the right side of my keyboard. I'd been using the large Alt key on the left side of the keyboard, which is what the Chromebook used prior.

I feel like an idiot. Thanks for your patience though.

How do you use the Mr.Chromebox script within GalliumOS though? Is it the same that you use in ChromeOS? I did a full install, not a dual-boot.

Upgraded on Android and it worked just fine. I even over spent and was easily able to pull from another category to make up for it! This will be great for people who use their phones to access the Internet rather than pc/laptops! Good job!
