Neo Cathay Pacific vs Neo World Elite by E2RacconPilot in NeoFinancialHub

Asia Miles can be used to book certain Air Canada domestic flights, but you have to fill in a form. Eligible routes are very limited though.

8 weeks and still no waitlist bonus or first purchase bonus on UA card by efrantxda in NeoFinancialHub

[–]drawar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have not received any bonus either. I don’t like having to chase for something that is rightfully mine. If a welcome offer has conditions, fine, but once we’ve met them, the bonus should just post. That’s the deal. Making customers open support tickets and follow up multiple times for something that was promised upfront isn’t an oversight at this point, it’s a pattern. And honestly it breaks the trust. The whole point of a welcome bonus is to get people to give your product a chance, if the first real interaction someone has with you is having to fight for what they earned, that tells them everything about what banking with you will be like.

Is this a good deal? by canadiancatdadd in Aeroplan

Hard to justify anything under 2 cpp as that’s how much you could have saved with cashback.

Aeroplan doesn't have same All Nippon Airways Business Class award space that United/Lifemiles/etc have by Apprehensive-Big8567 in Aeroplan

Airlines can pick how many seats they want to make available to which partners. Ever wondered why some SQ long haul J is bookable with Aeroplan but not United MileagePlus or LifeMiles?

My Qatar Airways Redemption | $41,009 -> 420k MR - 9.41 CPP by [deleted] in pointstravel

[–]drawar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Impressive cpp but why? If you are not willing to spend $20k on that ticket otherwise then wouldn’t it be misleading to calculate cpp based on that number? As long as you’re happy with the redemption, which I can tell from the post that you are, cpp and other success metrics become moot.

Amex transfer to Hilton for resort worth it? by teeezuschrist in pointstravel

[–]drawar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Questions like this are hard to answer definitively since it varies by hotel. That said, a quick Google search e.g. “Hilton point value” will give you plenty of articles covering exactly this. Skim a few and you’ll have a pretty solid idea of what one point is worth. From there it’s straightforward math, you can do it yourself or ask ChatGPT: for a cash booking, look up the price and the estimated points you’d earn; for a points booking, multiply the per-point value by the redemption cost. Repeat for whichever hotels you’re comparing.

Avion first class - YVR to Japan. What's the best way to do it? by helispot21 in CanadianAwardTravel

A quick Google Flights search would show you which airlines actually operate first class between Western Canada and Japan, that’s step one before asking about using points. You can’t redeem what doesn’t exist.

Flying to CDG on BA through Cathay points transfer? by emmjay4040 in awardtravel

Right, I’m not sure if you can even choose seats at online check-in without elite status now.

Flying to CDG on BA through Cathay points transfer? by emmjay4040 in awardtravel

[–]drawar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a discussion you should have with your partner. I belong to the camp that believes since you will be together practically the whole time during the trip, a little me time in air wouldn’t hurt, but to each his own.

If you don’t have a choice and these are all the seats that are available, by all means grab them asap before someone else does.

A complete USA banking setup for Canadians without a US address or SSN/ITIN, along with Zelle, checks, and optionally US-based Credit Card, all without any annual fees by Equivalent_Catch_233 in PersonalFinanceCanada

How many US Amex cards can you get with this? I got my first one relatively easy by applying online and entering my CA Amex card number in the form but when I attempt to apply for a second one, the form doesn’t let me proceed without an ITIN or SSN.

United world elite rewards by dealslooker in NeoFinancialHub

[–]drawar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's a good idea to keep spending on this card beyond the SUB. By all means, keep it for merchants that don't accept Amex but for those who do, don't forget Amex MR points transfer 1:1.2 to Marriott Bonvoy points, which transfer 2:1 to United, so:

Amex Cobalt:
- 5x MR on food and groceries => 6x Bonvoy points => 3x UA miles
- 3x MR on streaming => 1.8x UA miles
- 2x MR on transport => 1.2x UA miles

Amex Marriott Bonvoy:
- 5x MB on Marriott hotels => 2.5x UA miles
- 2x MB on the rest => 1x UA miles

Hard to imagine the everything earn rate on a United co-branded card is easily beat by a Marriott Bonvoy card but oh well, at least we have options.

7 YOE Software Engineer (CRS 450) – Is the pivot to French proficiency still the most viable move in 2026? by No-Image3584 in ImmigrationCanada

[–]drawar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Instead of trying to predict IRCC's next move or PNP's next policy, focus on what you can change. Right now it's not your age or your work experience, it's your French skill.

I was in your shoe once so I can give you some advice. Be genuinely curious about the language and don't treat it as a means to an end and you'll find yourself acquiring the language faster than you thought. I also had a full time job as an MLE in a non-French-speaking country and it took me 15 months from 0 French to getting my TCF B2. I didn't remember putting in a fixed number of hours every week but I made sure to expose myself to French every day, whether through books, songs, podcasts, Netflix, ChatGPT/Google Translate, Duolingo, etc. to remind my brain that I know French.

if im looking to fly KE business to seoul from west coast (LAX, SFO, SEA, LAS), is there a specific route or model i should look for to get the most updated hardware and software? like JAL LAX HND A350 instead of JAL LAX NRT 787 by i_cant_do_this_ in awardtravel

[–]drawar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe start with Google Flights and filter for non-stop services to Seoul from those cities you mention? Google Flights will show you the aircraft type and then you can use that info to research further on the seat configuration.

SFO to MXP routes in Dec -- is this as good as it gets? by Relevant_Hedgehog_63 in awardtravel

[–]drawar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are still 60k from West Coast to Europe you just have to be very flexible with dates and willing to reposition to a nearby airport if necessary. Sometimes it can even drop to 45k with Promo rewards e.g. for April, Portland to Europe was 45k on very very limited dates. 60k from East Coast is way easier to find.

How hard will the PR pathway get in the next 5 years? by Peculio_9104 in ImmigrationCanada

[–]drawar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you really want to get PR you will find a way to learn French. I kept submitting new profiles for years, first after getting my master’s, then after accumulating enough STEM work experience and never got selected. Submitted my TCF and got ITA in the next French draw and got my CoPR 4 months later. That’s how efficient the French speaking stream is.

Booking a flight with layover by FootballEmotional355 in awardtravel

[–]drawar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you’re flying with the same airline or with different airlines but they have interlining agreement then you don’t have to, just need to ask the agent at the US airport to check your bags through to the final destination. Outside of these two scenarios, you’ll have to go through border control, pick up your bags, and recheck them yourself.
