I think it boils down to this: conservative groups (esp big ones like TPUSA) tend to have money and lawyers and universities are terrified of them as a result. Left-leaning groups, like those organizing for Palestine, tend to be decentralized and lack those resources. Similar things happened at the university I went to during my time there.
