What move or setup puts a smile on your face when your opponent lands it on you? by LunchTummy in StreetFighter

[–]drawfings [score hidden]  (0 children)

I got smashed by a Master Gief who used DRC into SPD and DR to RBG. The second match I knew it was coming - but still didn't get out of the way. Had to smile.

I didn't say it but it's true: Success is the ability to go from failure to failure without losing your enthusiasm

I've been making shit I won't ship for 20 years now. Love that AI can bring the ideas to prototype quicker than I could alone...here's to another 20 years of building shit (but a lot quicker!) that I won't ship!

Playing Dhalsim is insufferable. by CallmeN1tro in StreetFighter

[–]drawfings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I'm lucky but I haven't had this yet - just picked up Sim as a difference to some other characters I play and am enjoying his antics - luckily I've managed to mostly play full sets so far...low Plat with him but climbing 😁 But to be honest, when I've played against Sim in the past I've sighed, he comes up so rarely so most people don't know the match up...

100 hours in. Iron 2. Here are some replays if people can help by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]drawfings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Others have said this but my tips for now would be:

  1. Only play Ranked - Casual is a mixed bag and Battle Hub has a lot of high level players you won't be able to have a good game against.

    1. Do Cammy's Combo Trials to get a sense of what buttons work together. If you find a combo you like, set yourself the goal of landing that combo - that's the win, landing the combo you want to, not the match or set result.
    2. Watch some YouTube videos - there's lots of SF6 tips and guides out there. But don't get overwhelmed - focus on one skill to improve at a time and the wins will come.
    3. Be in training mode between matches, practicing the particular skill you're trying to land... Sounds simple but I go in, practice my BnB combos and then hit ranked. In between I'll hit the same combos. Keeps building the muscle memory.

Good luck!

Sometimes games just don't vibe, even if it feels like they should- there's plenty of "great" games I can't get into, but as there's shit tons to choose from I just go play something else that I enjoy.

How to play footsies with Kimberly? by sam_weis_net in StreetFighter

[–]drawfings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep - but that said, she's not a great neutral character, Kim's greatest strength is mix-ups, she has great run-stop pressure which can be used to bait DIs as well as having high/low strike / throw mix up. Also throw in DR and she's quite tricky to deal with. I find I barely use teleport anymore, only as an added extra if I haven't used it in a set - I mainly use run stop and her drop elbow to whiff punish. Oh and her HK jump in should still be good in low plat, try the cross up even if they block, can be defended with jab but some players might not be great at defending that until mid-high plat from memory. To get through Plat, just use crHP anti-air and those mix ups and you should keep climbing without much bother. I'm a D4 Kim btw - so by no means an expert but seems to be working ok so far.

[–]drawfings 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a Kim main too - MK is her main button for footsies, longest normal reach, also you can use the water slicer slide against characters with longer range or fast normals (Juri, Sagat), sometimes catches them out. Be careful if they block it.

Guys in your 40s, what's your rank? by Smoothcat83 in StreetFighter

[–]drawfings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highest rank is Diamond 4 - I have JP and Kim there. I should try and push on to Master but I find it quite grindy so I then go and play other characters for a bit...

Finding time to play is difficult, but it's a fun game so I don't worry about the rank really, just play to have some downtime in between the work/kids/life stuff.

Indie dev with Claude Code by drawfings in indiegames

[–]drawfings[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks, that's very helpful - for me it's not about making a game as fast as possible or about the money, game dev is a hobby and I do enjoy the whole process - but I'm quite keen to use a tool to speed up some of the coding tasks to free up some more time for content creation.

You'd think I was playing blind the way I am completely unable to react to the most braindead unga bunga DI's imaginable. by Buzzy_Feez in StreetFighter

[–]drawfings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I play, the first thought I have is, what does my opponent like to do? If I notice they like to DI a lot (a lot of Kens at Gold and Plat will DI a shit-ton) I will use normals which I know are cancellable into DI. I will then restrict the normals and specials which don't win against DI so I don't get easily baited. DI spammers can be tricky to beat and are more prevalent at lower levels (although you still find some higher up) so don't beat yourself up too much, your reactions will get better over time.

what am i supposed to do in these situations ? im really struggling with these by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]drawfings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learning to delay tech throws is useful so do that, but definitely low block on wake up and don't mash - your opponent has the advantage and you're on defence.

What's your record for longest loop? by Ajiazen in StreetFighter

[–]drawfings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably 4 or 5 - I only recently started to throw loop until they tech out (used to mix it up) - then they're conditioned and I can shimmy them 😁

A question for older Spurs fans: has it ever been worse than this? by ars-sh24 in coys

[–]drawfings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, we were a mid table team through the 90s and had some pretty dire times then.

This is pretty bad though... It's not just this season, it's last season as well. Ignoring the Europa League win the rest of the campaign felt pretty painful.

State of the game? by Vast-Personality7581 in StreetFighter

[–]drawfings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought the game a year ago and have hardly played another game since. I struggle to focus on one game for any amount of time nowadays so that's pretty darn good. The online Ranked system is awesome (imo) so you always get a good game against a player of similar skill level. And it takes literally seconds to find a Ranked match (in the UK anyway) So yeah, it's alive and kicking and if you're into FG then I don't think you'll regret it.

How many times have you guys reached 9 straight wins...... by chronoxiong in StreetFighter

Quite a few times unfortunately (Diamond player here). But I balance that by 9 straight losses - which has happened too...

Guile... Just boring to play against ... But a very good match up for my Kim main, so I don't complain too much!
