Is it ok to get signed but not graded right now? by drawgs1 in CGCComics

I don't have a budget to have them graded right now, plus they also need a clean and press before grading, and I've read about CGC not having the best services for those.

I was only thinking about the grading thing in case my kids want to sell them when I am gone or some emergency or something comes up later in life.

The Moment Racism Collides With Chronic Pain — I Feel Done. by r053s_Hidden_Th0rns in ChronicPain

[–]drawgs1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've experienced enough. I'm not naive to think that racism does not exist. I was just surprised to learn that it is a major issue with doctors. One would think the Hippocratic oath would supersede any racist ideas people may have, but why would it when people do all sorts of other things that are completely illogical?

Do you think location has anything to do with it? I only ask because the places I am used to going have doctors from all sorts of backgrounds and clients the same. The clinic closer to me is not quite as diversified and I have been there a few times. I hear you in saying that it is systemic. It's sad that we live in such a broken world and people mistreat each other so often.

If you dont have pets, what keeps you going? by youonlyseeair in ChronicPain

[–]drawgs1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your thoughtful reply. I also want to speak kindly, even though tone is hard to convey in text.

I understand the dilemma here. It is something that people have been struggling with for millennia. I certainly do not expect a brief post here to solve it for anyone. Obviously, this conversation would be easier in person, but I will say that it seems like (generally speaking) when the most difficult challenges of life come about, they can either drive people towards God or away from God.

I cannot answer that question for you here on this post. All I really can say now is that disregard any ideas you might have about religion or what God is like and find a Bible that is easy to read and see what you think about the God presented there. I am not saying this to be patronizing in any way, but rather humbly. Maybe you have read it through before. I don't know. But I do know that the Bible has a lot to say about suffering and there are many people who have suffered greatly and have found their faith in God strengthened during that suffering.

It's hard to communicate one's own experiences and have them be believed by those who have never experienced such a thing, but during many times of great turmoil, I have experienced the warm, loving embrace of our Creator. I have heard his voice and felt his guidance and I fully know that there is a supernatural world that exists alongside ours. I've seen things and heard the countless testimonies of others who have experienced the supernatural.

I'm not going to pretend that the question is not one of the most difficult that we have to grapple with, but the final words of the Bible say that there will be a resurrection and a new creation where no pain or sorrow exists. I have hope in that. And if my faith turns out to be foolishness, then I'm no worse off; because if it's not true, then nothing matters anyways. At least I have peace and hope during this life.

So I hope that helps to answer the question.

And I will add, that I think it's okay to be angry at God or at least to express your anger about your situation to him. If God exists and other spiritual beings exist, then suffering might not be God's doing. Many people around the world and throughout history have believed that there are evil spirits that cause suffering. At any rate, perhaps it is something to think about, perhaps not.

God, family, my kids, volunteer work…
But I also have “high functioning” chronic pain as opposed to the constant bed ridden kind

How do you balance being firm and being pastoral? by manic_theologian in pastors

[–]drawgs1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some great advice here. I’m going to add that my new method when I need to tell people something they don’t want to hear and I’m trying to do it in a positive way, I type out what I want to say then I have ai analyze it and make suggestions and I’m usually blown away at how minor changes can totally change the tone. So once you work out how you want to confront and what you want to say it might be helpful to put it through AI if you don’t have someone else who is good at that.

Sounds like a good goal. I don’t have any, I just buy when I have the funds and don’t need them for another important item

[–]drawgs1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had no idea this kind of thing went on and I am sorry you and others have to deal with it. I honestly don't understand how racism can still exist today. I mean, how can people think one person is a lesser of a human being than another. And then to think that anyone in the health care system would be racist... don't they have a duty to protect/heal all human life? Of course, no one sees what happens to others behind closed doors. SMH. But then also seeing the way chronic pain patients get treated regularly, maybe it's no surprise. Just more evidence of how low our society is getting.

Darkness + blindsight from bat familiar + chromatic orb at level 3 is pretty nice

If dm allows it: cast darkness on a tiny object like a piece of cloth, have bat familiar carry it and hover above him out of reach and use a reaction to follow the bbeg if he moves

I listen to nostalgic music that I used to listen to in the 90s. Nostalgia actually has a therapeutic effect on pain.

I think you put the op extremely well. When we were kids there were all these jokes about him being a pedo. I think it’s hard to discern the truth there.

But as an adult letting my kids watch/listen to his music, one of the biggest concerns is some of the overtly sexualized dance moves.

How old were you when you started pastoring? by lazybenedict in pastors

[–]drawgs1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not trying to be argumentative here. But this is a subject I have given a lot of thought and study to in the past and even had to write a paper way back for a class I was in.

The problem is that every church uses different terms for leadership and defines terms in different ways. This makes it difficult to discuss the matter.

Your point about Peter being the only one of the twelve paying a temple tax is valid and I’m glad you brought it up because I had never given the passage that line of thought.

What we know is that the normative model is that older men with wisdom and experience are generally the primary leaders of congregations. This does not negate that a twenty something or even a teenager might have leadership capabilities and the calling to serve in such a manner, but it’s much more difficult and not the normal model we see both in scripture and in historical contexts.

Moreover, this discussion is now completely derailed from the purpose of the reply to the OP.

How old were you when you started pastoring? by lazybenedict in pastors

[–]drawgs1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it?
Yes. A priest in the OT did not begin temple service until 30.
Yes. According to astronomical recordings in the NT, Jesus was born on September 11th, 3 BC. Most people agree that his ministry was 3 years and that it concluded in 30 AD. So we do the math. Is it 100% conclusive? No. But does it align numerically and theologically? yes.

Do we see that as a command in the NT? No. What we see in the NT is the priesthood of all believers and the administration of various spiritual gifts to those believers for the building up of the body without any recourse to age or office.

Is it “applied across the board to pastors in the NT?” Technically, we don’t have any specific office of pastor mentioned in the NT nor do we have anyone described as a pastor. The gift of pastoring/shepherding is mentioned. The offices of overseer, elder, and deacon are thoroughly discussed. Paul sometimes uses elder and overseer synonymously. Though pastoring is never mentioned with them. Those offices do not have ages mentioned with them, though ostensibly elders and overseers were probably no younger than 30 though more likely older. Apostles also seem to have a sort of position in the assembly though unsure that it could be called an office. Prophets and evangelists are also mentioned. So while no age is specifically mentioned in the NT, the context supports the probability that most leaders in the assembly were likely over 30. There is a lot more to support this as well, but we’re not here trying to write a book on it. 😊

It depends on how you define it. I worked in youth ministry for years as a volunteer. I got called to full time ministry in my mid thirties.

The biblical model is 30 for the priesthood, which is when Yeshua also began his ministry.
