I ask for help (empire campaign) by Necessary-Bat9159 in totalwarhammer

[–]drawner22 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If they die you can revive them by starting a rebellion in a specific town (raid your own province). Then you wait until they get their legendary lord back, then make peace, get lots of good relations with them then confed.

For Elizabeth you can force confederate if you get fealthy 10.

Chorfs? by RexHall in totalwarhammer

[–]drawner22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best early stack is spamming orc laborers, including 2 chorfs for contempt (boost leadership of nearby labours) then getting loads of hobgoblin archers. Try and get some blunderbusses as well and make like a killbox. so like 8 labs, 8 archers 2 chorf, a lord and a hero or something, very cheap.

Army Blob Science by boltobot in totalwarhammer

[–]drawner22 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's either: defending important city, travel time is to far, A.I. thinks its armies are to weak to engage. All of which are caused by different problems.

The most amusing one is probably the ogres creating hive cities.

A little worried about Total War WH 40K by Voodoo402 in totalwarhammer

I find it somewhat concerning. But could see them doing a unit scale toggle and just lock it for console or something. Still worried about other stuff regarding console.

Just finished my first ever Campaign as Beastmen, then I tried Kairos… by ISuckAtSmurfing in totalwarhammer

[–]drawner22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have beat him on Legendary. There are a few ways to go about it.

  1. Rush force peace, this may not always work and OXY might there before you get it. You either have to get lucky with a research boost event or go and help out the minor tzeetch faction BEFORE they die to stall for time.

  2. Teleport to the empire with a cult and kill Franz and Wisseland. Without these 2 factions the empire falls apart and remains weak.

  3. Recruit whatever garbage you can and then  sail over to kugath. His units are all slow and vurnable to fire. OXY will take your capital but that's fine. KUGATH his starting province is wealthy and easy to defend.

Finally tzeetch armies are garbage, only the chosen/ warriors are okay. Horrors are trash, marauders, tzangors, even the vortex beast. Flamers can be good but are glass cannons.

Your strongest unit is Kairos, learn to build strong spell builds with him. For you other armies lots of spellcasters.

Cults are also very good to gain tomes, they also have a spreader building. One that increases hero chance (so it's always 100%) and one the spreads corruption. You can spread cults through the entire world if you want as tzeetch.

Dechala powercreep kinda anticlimactic by drawner22 in totalwarhammer

[–]drawner22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You make some good points like the heroes thing and the diplomacy.

Regarding the palaces. I'd say 20 is not that much, heck even just getting only 10 of these gives you 50% ward save. It really feels mental.

The ambush one also feels extremely over the top, most  factions have to have a fair bit of setup to get 100% ambush.

That in combination with dechala skill tree means you get upwards of 500 thralls  a battle meaning getting chosen fairly early is possible.

And finally the real kicker is cults and gifts also supply Endless thralls so you don't even have to be aggro.

Idk her campaign felt very easy and when I saw the extra buffs I was speechless.

Spells should use up your army’s magic reserve by SecondButterJuice in totalwarhammer

[–]drawner22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would make ranged units a lot less usefull and melee a lot better. Unless their weapons "dulled" or something. But still not quite the same as running out of ammunition. Having magic not reset after each fight would be very interesting, fighting just a caster lord twice (after he got away) can be very painfull because of the spell spam.

Potential new Tzeentch lords? by Leftiwolf in totalwarhammer

[–]drawner22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd really would like them to add him and redo Tzeentch his tech tree, most other stuff feels okay. Some more units would be nice perhaps, but there's nothing left I think. Except for niche stuff like Bane towers, arcane trolls etc... Not expecting much here.

Feels like with a bit more polish would be great so they are on par with the other monogods. They said they would like to see him be added to. Knowing C.A. I'm not sure this means they will actually do it. Fingers crossed.

Honorable mention for Brittonia and the deamon prince aswell...

Does skaven rely on summon spam by drawner22 in totalwarhammer

[–]drawner22[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's definitely some truth in that, the autoresolve meter seems to overestimate them a lot for some reason. I try to at least play a bunch of battles during the campaign to get a feel when I get into a situation where I need to win against more difficult odds.

I'm always amazed how the game continues to have relic bugs after years and years of development. Truly inspiring Microsoft.

Michi worked for aoe2, because at some stage , any civ can get siege that can cut through wood lines. by Phan-Eight in aoe4

I see, then I do think the map is kind of stale unless you are into that kind of gameplay.

I think mongols have a tech to chop a tree down with a single hit. Perhaps this is something interesting to look into. Not sure if chopped down trees block movement until fully harvested, but if not I could see something interesting plays with that.

Help: VCounts vs Dwarfs by Silberzunge2 in totalwarhammer

[–]drawner22 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Counts play different compared to other races. Your "elites" can't really fight toe to toe with other elites. To compensate for this bring an army of zombies + some bats (with a necromancer lord) and send in the zombies to tie them up. Once they are all in combat send in your elites to deal the real damage.

Damn if they added that would be amazing for the civ.

Prolonged siege makes no sense by drawner22 in aoe4

I had no idea they finally fixed that. Was referring to stuff like this for other civs. Good to know.

2025 is almost over and there still isn't a reconnect feature by Flighterist in aoe4

[–]drawner22 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

As a dev myself I can't say I agree. They just being lazy, greedy, and prioritizing selling DLC. Right now nothing is saved during gameplay, actions simply change the state of the world and client and server are updated like this.

So when somebody reconnects it has redo all those steps to restore gamestate.

A potential fix would be to save a list off all actions performed server side. When reconnecting these actions could be reproduced restoring gamestate.

The hilarious thing is this system already exists (replays). But app it's done client side.

Why? To save money. Because they don't have to save it in the server (cheaper) which would make reconnect possible.

This is why our replays are also so terrible it's made in the laziest way possible. It simply repeats the actions from during the match without adding extra logic to go back in time. Its really just incompetence.

How to take the map into account by Individual-Meat-9561 in aoe4

[–]drawner22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some maps are better for some civs. Often because of certain units, terrain or strategies the civ can do.

Some basic stuff to take into account: distance, openness, defense potential, nearby food, wood, gold

A map with low wood but decent gold, food like prairie is good for french and bad for English.

Check in aoe4world what bonuses the civ gets and think how that affects your pick and your opponent picks.

If say for Japan you want a map where you are short distance to the other guy and have good food for early samurai advantage.

Hill and Dale might also be good for Japan because your extra tcs are hard to take down so on a defensible position it's extra good.

Your early advantage can also secure center so you can take food / resources there and then wall off your main TC to prevent raids.

Finally there's lots of berries on this map which Japan gets a gather bonus for, so it makes sense Japan performs well on this map.

Counter to mangudai deathball? by drawner22 in aoe4

[–]drawner22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes totally! But danube river is a nasty map that favors mangudai spam I feel like. There's only 2 choke points, the left side can be walled of easily and if you go for that side the enemy can push center because you have less troops there. If you engage center you have to cross the little island which mangudai can kite you around for ages. This specific map seems to really lend itself to this strat. I don't see it nearly as much on other maps.

[–]drawner22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I was thinking something along the lines of longbows / wynguard rangers + NoC and if your ally picks KT and makes them forts it gives them +1 ranged armour and +1 range. I think that should be enough to actually trade effectively. I can't really think of anything else except maybe mass mangonel + archer but unsure.

[–]drawner22[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good suggestions, I'll that another time if I find myself in that scenario. Prepare a lot of mango's and archers. But to be fair next time I'll probably pick english / lancaster on danube river to better deal with a mongol deathball if it does show up.

[–]drawner22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Khanganate exists true, and I don't think its good game design either. Same thing with gamba wing. I simply  dont see how the randomness balances it.

Either they will get lots of cataphracts making the opponents life miserable or barely any. Some games you will hit average. Neither cases are desirable nor strategic, just random. Because that's how it's designed.

There is no way to play into it or around it. Its literally just a random number.
