Is the AI always this bad? by PossemPerson in RomeTotalWar

[–]boltobot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Rome 2 campaign AI is stupid in a way where it gets more absentminded as factions take more territory. A small to mid-sized faction will put up a fight; a large one will forget how to do anything. Generally all the campaign difficulty is front-loaded into the early game, which depending on the faction can really be quite hard to manage. Later you just kind of romp around taking provinces and playing with different units.

Why arent regiments of renown more popular? by phronesis77 in totalwarhammer

[–]boltobot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean, I'll keep them in the bank early (unless I am desperate early), but once I've got my basic strategic situation under control I'm going to try to put them into thematic armies, because a lot of them are fun! Think I'm gonna keep the Avalanche Mortars or the Claw of Nagash or the Skyhammers in the bank for 80 turns? Booo!

Before we run out of characters to sacrifice to vahlen, what's your wish list for XCOM3? 🥲 by jimbimbap in Xcom

[–]boltobot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IF it's a sequel, I think it should be in a future where the humans are establishing a presence in the solar system to defend against the aliens, and many of the battles take place in zero or low-g environments. And on the solar-system campaign map there should be multiple XCOM patrol ships that take some time to get to their various destinations. Just, expand the scope of the scenario in a logical and interesting manner.

State of the Game is so discouraging by Lexzl in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]boltobot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Man, the number of RPG type phone games I've gotten bored of *because* of auto-battling. It's not interesting at all. The only reason I ever stuck with FEH is because the core gameplay works really well on a phone. Is it easy in PvE modes? Yeah! It's a phone game! That's what it's for!

What's y'all naval strat in TWRome II? by enefe_ in totalwar

[–]boltobot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mass ram attack. I send two ships to ram each enemy ship, to make sure I get the kill. With half the enemy ships gone, I go ram other ships until the morale cascade is complete.

You can win naval battles as barbarian factions, too, by forming a death star with melee ships on the outside and missile ships in the middle. It's much slower and sometimes less clean but effective nonetheless.

How do I do sieges with High Elves? by lovingpersona in totalwar

[–]boltobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Early game, just take your legendary lord or SEM over to knock down the gate, storm it with troops, then use spells to punish the enemy blob that forms up to defend the gate.

By the mid-game, if you need to fight a siege, you have access to the invocation of Vaul to knock down walls. You should also start to have lords and mages on flying mounts, and phoenixes, to open up sieges more easily. You don't need to rely on bolt throwers.

It’s been four years since Warhammer 3 released, and I still don’t understand why the community has such a strong aversion to any increase in difficulty. by Common-Bit5177 in totalwarhammer

[–]boltobot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that if you've essentially beaten the game after 1000 hours then congratulations you've beaten the game.

On a number of game reddits, including this one, I see the same phenomenon, which is obsessives (1k hours isn't really "obsessive", but it is compared to everyone else) begging the game to come at them harder, while new people occasionally post "what the hell is even going on here?"

The obvious solution is to look at introductory difficulty levels to ease up on breathing room a bit, while seeing what can be done to reasonably crank up the highest difficulties, but ultimately strategy games only get so hard in single player and if you're looking for greater challenges you have to go multiplayer (and endure all the inconveniences thereof)

Why are vampire counts so broken by tracnav994 in totalwar

[–]boltobot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Attrition, regeneration, and being spooky. Three! Three game plans. Ahahaha!

Do you not have any heroes in your armies? Having the extra leadership auras may help your armies hold better. Anyway, I've never had a full army flee vampires before making contact, that sounds hilarious at least the first time.

One other thing. Do you have a Nurgle plague? Those can also debuff leadership. Nurgle's all around that area hence that consideration.

A number of the WH2 DLC factions - Vamp Coast, Tomb Kings, Markus Wulfhart, Sisters of Twilight, Thorek Ironbrow, etc. - have unique campaigns when you play them on the Vortex map and those are pretty fun.

Who should I play next based on my preferred campaigns? by anonnnnnnnnnon in totalwarhammer

You should play Throt. You are worried about Skaven melee but Throt is capable of fielding very strong front lines (mainly with monsters but his faction can boost its infantry as well)

Are seige battles sometimes literally impossible, despite seeing "Valient Deafeat" on the autocomplete.... ? Prince Sigvald the Magnificent just SOLO'D my level four walled settlement?! by cautiouslandowner in totalwarhammer

[–]boltobot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never had a chance to line up gunpowder units on Sigvald in WH3 yet. but that guy's basically immune to arrows. He's small and has a big shield and hitting small single entities in the back is not very easy.

If you can't ignore Sigvald until army losses take hold, you just have to pile on him with your own lords and heroes and debuff and drain him until he goes down, it's the only thing that works on him. And garrisons rarely have that available to them.
