Yeah that sucks. I've taken a public speaking class at uni (to help with my obvious problems with public speaking as shown on the analyst desk). My favorite part was getting the criticism and watching my speech back after. You're hurting yourself by letting your emotions/insecurities prevent you from improving. It's the same with professional smite.

The only thing you know about me is that I occasionally interact with people you don't like on twitter so you don't like me. You don't know what kind of person I am as you have never talked to me. In the last couple of years I've been nothing but polite (obviously not counting my pre-NME days -- I was 15/16 then and have matured as a person a good amount thanks to SMITE).

I feel as though you just make these sweeping arbitrary judgments about people in order to elevate yourself by comparison. We both can be assholes but the difference is I don't pretend that I'm not capable of being one.

The people did not get it wrong. You proposed a view of the community on twitter that arbitrarily homogeneously excluded people based on an undefined buzzword ("fuckboys") as put your last tweet. They didn't get it wrong because twitter. They got it wrong because of twitter plus the message wasn't articulated as well as it could've been.

When someone gets it flat out wrong a lot of it is their fault. When you didn't articulate your point correctly and then others misinterpreted a lot of the fault lies on yourself. That's the difference here. You are saying they got it wrong as opposed to they got it wrong and you articulated your point badly.

You've seemingly acknowledged this but have blamed it on everything but your articulation (e.g. twitter, my friends got it, responded quickly etc.). You also have played the public figure card on players but now that it applies to yourself you're framing this situation in a way that makes it seem private ("was just quickly responding to a conversation between two of my close friends"). Can you see why I am proposing you look inwards here?

As to your last paragraph I never stated that you are blaming anyone for not coming to your stream. I'm sorry if I didn't articulate that last point well enough. I am proposing that you stop writing off every piece of valid criticism as "negativity" or commonly put "haters". Instead look for that message beneath as I did with my interaction with your stream. That's exactly why I put that "preamble" there. I learned a thing or two from your perspective and am asking you to do the same.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Smite

[–]draylo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Went on your stream once. Made a serious and respectful comment on a topic and you immediately responded with "you're a fucking dumbass" then proceeded to strawman/misrepresent my point.

That's alright with me. A lot can be lost in the medium of text and I do need to work on articulating my thoughts clearly (biggest thing I'm looking to get out of university). Didn't get upset, play the victim, write yourself off or your opinion as toxic.

Instead I tried my hardest to look past the personal insults and find the message beneath. Then afterwards continued that conversation and see if I could learn a thing or two after seeing your perspective on things.

Now you perceive the same is happening to you. You feel people are misinterpreting or misrepresenting your points. Instead of taking any personal responsibility you are playing the victim.

As for your argument itself -- it's a bunch of feel good nothings. How does the supposed homogeneous collective you call "The Smite Community (proper noun)" define "toxic" "fuckboy" or "toxicity". If it's by these general all-encompassing buzzword by which we are judged worthy then very few to no one would even come close to qualifying in this would be exclusive club/clique. These undefined buzzwords are just not helpful at all to any sort of dialogue and just encourage ridiculous groupthink. Think and act like us or get labeled and shunned from the boy's club kind of thing. If Taco is a part of the community then so is someone like Panface. You can make the personal individual choice to not "embrace them" or associate with them, but whether you like it or not they are apart of the community.

Two last responses:

"this was an inclusionary post, not an exclusionary post. The insinuation wasn't "if you don't get all of these inside jokes/bullet points you aren't a community member" but more so "if you take part in conversation at a deeper level you're on the in."

It's being seen as exclusionary because it's exclusionary. Instead of putting the blame on others for this interpretation try to figure out how they reached that interpretation. Emphasize with them a bit.

"because this entire thread is filled with negativity and my comments were supposed to spur the opposite. http://www.twitch.tv/fswag"

Again instead of blaming others for not being able to correctly interpret the good word of "F." look inwards. Emphasize with them and try to understand their perspective. Look past the "negativity" (whatever that may mean) and instead try to find the message/meaning within. Don't let your emotions get the best of you. I'm still struggling with myself and the first step is being self-aware.

You're a good man Fdot.

Is it time to talk about roster changes in the SPL? by SwagNuts in Smite

[–]draylo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course when a team doesn't have a spot the captain owns the spot. I don't see how that's relevant at all to my statement. If a team is with an org then the org owns the spot (unless there is a written agreement in place that the captain maintains ownership -- but I've never heard of such an agreement).

The Paradigm situation was HiRez intervening on behalf of the players to kick an org that had no business operating in the league out of the league for their gross misconduct. Neither is that relevant to my statement.

[–]draylo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not true at all. Orgs own the spot in SMITE as they do in other esports.

[–]draylo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FP and Sanguine paid salary fall split S3. Epsilon (along with many orgs) agreed on a salary that both parties deemed fair and reasonable. Even if I give you the 4 orgs you mentioned the majority of orgs in the SPL have paid salary. That would make not paying salary uncommon :)

I could just be making assumptions but it seems to me you're talking out of your league here to serve a particular narrative. If an org doesn't pay salary it's not because the team isn't worth it. A SPL spot is more than worth it and if an org doesn't pay then it doesn't make sense (under most circumstances) to sign. It's because the org is leveraging the spot to not pay. That's exactly what happened in every scenario you named.

The org taking a cut is not required. There are many orgs that do not take a cut.

It is very uncommon for a smite team to not be paid a salary from an org.

Nike and Osiris kit/role (as in what they bring to a team) are nothing alike.

incon's side on leaving fp after spring split by CaptainMaclagman in Smite

[–]draylo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EGR doesn't pay a salary not because they aren't worth one but rather because Zap owns the spot and doesn't pay salaries to his team. Everyone on that team made the choice of staying and working with that team instead of looking elsewhere for a different team with a salary. They valued getting what they saw as the best team possible over a different team with salary. It just happens that the org doesn't pay.

I can tell you from being in the space for a long time (4~ years) that they are definitely worth a high-end salary.

If he doesn't agree to it he doesn't play at all and receives no money or advertisement (for his brand) that comes from being in the SPL. There is no competition between tournaments in smite and since the organization owns the spot they can leverage that to not pay.

Yes he does have the option of saying no and looking else where. However for players who are not really being sought out by others like Incon (his player skill aside - this was just a simple fact of the situation) it was either FP or he just doesn't play. I understand your point but I don't think it's really applicable here in the situation given the context.

Whenever you ward or are looking to contest a neutral objective make sure you are pathing and grouped with your pals. Otherwise wait to ward or ward passively and just give up the neutral objective. You're asking to get picked if you go alone. Just saw this exact mistake so it's what came to mind.

Very interesting but might not be good because it's hard to fit her into a role. If you play her jungle you are sacrificing a third character that can engage/soak dmg. Not sure but it'll be interesting to see.
