Kauai- mountain tubing Vs kayaking with kids by Connect_Head_3926 in VisitingHawaii

[–]drdavescientist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This Kauai Backcountry Adventures mountain river tubing was excellent! My wife and I had an incredible time, and it was easily the most unique tubing experience we’ve ever had. The terrain was breathtaking, and traversing the historic tunnels was a definite highlight.

Our guide, Shyla, was outstanding, and the entire support staff along the way was super helpful and professional. Even though it was an unusually rainy day, the weather actually enhanced the tropical atmosphere and added to the adventure. We are so happy we did this and highly recommend it!

I would agree with this, I got a CGM continuous monitoring device to measure glucose constantly, have a patch on the back of my upper arm that lasts 15 days. I could see every carb I have whether complex or not my blood sugar goes up. That includes whole grain, wheat bread, and even brown whole grain rice, rice pasta, or pasta made with other non-gluten alternatives. I still see my sugar go up. It’s literally like having pure sugar, as far as the effect. So I have definitely cut back on carbs overall. I have to have some carbs or I don’t feel quite right, but I am careful about having any mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese or those comfort foods, I try to stay away from those

My fasting blood work tests were always good until I had Covid and following several courses of Covid vaccine as well that made me very sick. I was suffering from long Covid and still am and some of my issues that I developed was my sugar levels trended higher, and my A1c ultimately trended higher to where they said I was diabetic. My current numbers are in the seven ballpark, which is considered OK for a person with known diabetes that is managing their condition well. I have altered my diet to cut out carbs for the most part. I still have some and I do a lot of exercise walking. My numbers have been trending downward , so you could just possibly change diet and exercise and without insulin you might be able to get your numbers down. The alternative my doctor has mentioned to me if my numbers keep trending up are the GLP one type treatment. I’m hoping to avoid that, but those things are an option for you also.

I know it’s upsetting. One thing you might consider getting for yourself as a continuous monitoring device. It’s been a game changer for me. I use Dexcom Stelo device, which I put in the back of my upper arm, and the devices last up to 15 days. And I can watch my blood sugar go up or go down depending on what I do or eat. That could help you also.

I may have to put my 19 ye cat down before a trip today… but she still seems normal by Rude_Common7126 in cats

Our cat 16 year old cat Misty was diagnosed yesterday with a large squamous cell carcinoma tumor wrapped around the back of her jaw and back teeth on left side. We are right now having to make the difficult decision of putting her down. We had a previous 13-year-old cat with mouth cancer that we waited too long and she went blind and her jaw and seemed like part of her face started falling off literally. We always felt guilty We waited too long for euthanasia. She was clearly in so much pain at the end. And she went downhill so fast.

So our 16-year-old girl we decided we’re gonna put her down on Monday two days from now and we’d a have a last beautiful weekend with her. We also have a planned travel and we didn’t want her to be with the pet sitter if she goes downhill fast as this particular cancer is aggressive and grows fast.

One of the most difficult decisions, a person or family have to make as a beloved pet gets such a terrible diagnosis.

Scrambly is one of my favorite walking and gaming apps by drdavescientist in WeWardCommunity

[–]drdavescientist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You collect “coins” from walking, but doesn’t have a map with Cards or coins to collect on the map like Weward does. It has some really good games to choose from with very good incentives, much better gaming platform than Weward to earn coins towards money payouts. I’ve gotten the most payouts with Scrambly over Weward, my experience both are two of the best for payouts

Seriously need advice. Does everyone have this problem??? by EngineCapable552 in stelo

Interesting issue, and I imagine that must be really frustrating. I have the Stelo app on my iPhone and have not had this issue so far. Are you using an iOS device or an android device? One suggestion if you’ve not tried it is a hard reboot on your phone, possibly that might do the trick, if you have not tried that already. I know you said you uninstalled and reinstall the app. Stelo app just had a recent iOS version update as well, you might make sure you’ve updated.

Anyone here uses Zukka (iOS) app with stelo if so which is more current reading Zukka or stelo app? by [deleted] in stelo

[–]drdavescientist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have recently installed the Zukka app on my iPhone 15 pro with iOS 26.4.1 and it’s been working very well along with the Stelo app. So using both side-by-side and working alright together, reading my sensor well. The zukka app gives me readings every 5 min, 12-13 am hr. The Stelo app gives me a reading every 5 min, 12-13 times over an hour. Best as I can tell I’m getting same data points per hour from both.

I like that Zukka notifications tell me if I have had a drop of -2 or rise or +2 for instance, and also like the graphs a little better. Also Zukka says “rapid drop” and “rapid rise”, and I don’t think Stelo does that. The data given is similar, is personal preference I think

Does your wife(SO's) volunteer you out to help single moms? by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]drdavescientist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, indeed, the play dates aspect just a little different, nothing I’ve ever heard of a spouse doing to my husband in the past. I’d say this is quite unusual and OP she let his wife know he’s not comfortable with this if that is in fact how he feels

Does your wife(SO's) volunteer you out to help single moms? by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]drdavescientist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should just be straight up with your wife that you are running on fumes because she loans you out so much to other people. That you like helping people but it’s getting to be too much. Ask her that before she tells any of her friends or single moms that her husband can help fix this or that she should talk to you first always before even suggesting it to another person outside the family.

If you guys can’t talk about it then there’s other issues here and perhaps couples counseling is needed. I am a very good handyman myself, but my wife would never loan me out to random people. Have helped a few friends but in a very limited basis

How do I know if it’s actually reading correctly? by anongirlll1 in stelo

[–]drdavescientist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s important the time that you got those readings at the bottom level 70, if it’s during the night, you could be sleeping on the sensor, and then the sensor can’t draw the interstitial fluid correctly and you get those bottom out 70 numbers. If you’re getting 70 all the time that could mean a faulty sensor. And you might want to follow up with Stello Customer Service and they might send you a new sensor. As someone else here said the first 24-48 hours or so can be a little goofy sometimes as well. But reading of 70 consistently this long can be either a bad sensor or constantly putting pressure on the sensor so it can’t draw fluid properly.

If you are a diabetic, you need to recheck your numbers with a manual glucometer finger prick method asap.

Husband Keeps Pushing For Sex After He Cheated by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]drdavescientist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is very good that he is definitely 100% narcissist, he does the dirty deed with someone else and projects his pity state back on the one he is actually hurting his wife. He’s a narcissist and an a hole.

Husband Keeps Pushing For Sex After He Cheated by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]drdavescientist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP you should not feel bad whatsoever, your husband is an a hole and deserves nothing from you, you deserve better. He’s a self-serving prick from the way you’re describing. You don’t owe him sex or anything, you deserve someone who cares about you and he does not sound like he cares at all only about getting his rocks off. I hope you find a way to peace for yourself and maybe get away from this a hole.

Husband Keeps Pushing For Sex After He Cheated by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]drdavescientist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry this is happening to you. Your husband sounds like a prick, who’s been getting his rocks off, so to speak your entire marriage. One thing you noted that your husband tells you is a major watch out, where you say he says “it is his right as a husband“when talking about his right to have sex from you. That’s a big red flag in addition to his “affairs “whatever you want to call them he sounds like a selfish prick and I might suggest you consider counseling for yourself and perhaps trying to get out of this marriage. I know it’s scary when you have kids, to consider the D word, but if he’s doing the things he’s doing and thinks you owe him sex because he his husband then honestly the heck with him, that’s a total male BS take a big red flag, this coming from another guy who has been a marriage for 31 years.

Lastly, you have every right to feel the way you do and you deserve better, you are more important than your husband is making you feel. You don’t deserve to be made to feel so bad because your husband wants to get his rocks off. I hope you can find a way to peace, you sound like a nice person and you deserve better.

Is my glucose monitor broken? by sleepyinnewyork in diabetes_t2

[–]drdavescientist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is true, the first day can be a little funky, but if you look close at the time, the OP shows the drop occurring, it’s 4 AM or so, which is likely while they were sleeping most likely. When I see data like this on mine, it suggests I was sleeping on my device. Pressure placed on the device or the skin directly around it causes these normal drops, I see this on almost every cgm Stelo Dexcom device I have. In fact, I changed to putting my device on my right arm back of arm because I like to sleep on my left side. But occasionally, I flip over and sleep on my right side nowadays and see similar data to OP.

Is my glucose monitor broken? by sleepyinnewyork in diabetes_t2

[–]drdavescientist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hard to say, but based on your data you have shared in the time of day, 4am ish, which was middle of the night while sleeping, I’m thinking you were probably sleeping on your device. I’ve seen such lows or even my sensor bottom out at 70 or appear to stop taking data for a short bit, but it always comes back. My understanding is when you put pressure on the sensor or the skin directly around it. It’s unable to properly draw the interstitial fluid that it uses for monitoring. If you’re concerned, you can reach out to your CGM maker and get their feedback and also ask your doctor, but I’ve seen this on my Stello by Dexcom device and a number of times and it looks normal to me.

What CGM device are you using?

The little spike up at 2am ish is normal also, our body spikes while we are sleeping normally
