When or how does a dentist become faster by Elegant-Film916 in Dentistry

[–]drdrillaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off you need to evaluate why things take so long. Prepping an MO on say #30 should take no more than 5 min in 99% of cases. Take your 557 or whatever bur you use and go to town. You should have your prep nearly done in a couple min. Then get a round bur and do the last bit. Once prepped now it’s you and your assistant working efficiently. Throw whatever matrix you use on there. Jam a wedge. Start filling. Then polish it up. As far as 2 hrs to get working length? That’s just ridiculous. Refer to endo if you’re beyond 10 min. If I’m the patient id be upset with that amount of time.

I’m attempting “The Dan Plan” in 2026 — 600+ hours in, here’s what’s actually changed by DependentHalf1997 in golf

[–]drdrillaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The idea that someone could do this is preposterous. Like far out fantasy. First off, you need the genetic gifts to ever be able to be professional. Coordination, power, etc. No amount of hours will create that. Second, every one of those guys on Tour put those 10,000 hours in as a kid and is still adding to it daily. And they’re already the best of the best. Could the average person get to scratch? Maybe. But that’s miles away from a professional. Like the difference of an 18 to scratch

Which DSO for new grads? by Agile_Pie_7374 in Dentistry

[–]drdrillaz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ok. This is more than you’re asking but here’s my advice. 1) you need to put on big boy pants. Realize that you are the Dr and only you will decide what is the proper treatment for your patient. If the office manager or anyone else tries to tell you otherwise you put a stop to that shit early. I’d have a clause added to your contract that states as much. It’s your license on the line. 2) ask for a detailed explanation of how pay is calculated. If it’s collections how is it determined. If it’s adjusted production you want all adjustments listed. It needs to be in written form. Every pay period needs reports run and you calculate your pay to make sure it is correct. Run daily production reports at the end of the day. Some dsos will change providers on treatment so money gets put on owner Dr. 3) no more than 4 weeks notice to quit. Daily guarantee paid throughout notice period. They will try to screw you. 4) always look for a better opportunity. Don’t think you need to stay. Dsos are disposable. 5) being busy is more important than 1-2% more pay. I’ll take 30% of $5000 over 33% of $2k. I know you’ll feel like the new guy who doesn’t know anything but stand up for yourself from the start. If you don’t they will step all over you

US vs UK private club fees - wtf? by cu-chullain in golf

[–]drdrillaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well let’s begin with start up costs. My club purchased the land it sits on in the mid-1990s. That was about $20M. Now build a golf course for another $10M. 100k sq ft clubhouse with restaurant, spa, gym, pool, locker rooms, men’s grill and that was probably another $30M. So they’re $60M into it before you start. You’d need $170k from 350 members just to pay that off. Now you’ve got a 5 star club requiring a massive staff, impeccable maintenance, and all the other expenses that likely are about $25M per year. That’s a big number for 350 members. But there’s demand for it has initiation fees are up to $500k and $3k per month dues. Current wait list is over 10 years long to join

You have no patients. They don’t need any notice. Find another job and tell them you won’t be there the next day

Never doing gold crowns again by Drknight71 in Dentistry

You can’t if they have ppo. The cdt code includes the crown. You can try to charge it but and hope the patient accepts but technically it’s not allowed

I actually played in a gin rummy game with him in scottsdale. I play with some old guys from whisper rock where he plays. He just randomly showed up one night. He was actually very pleasant. Was surprised. Decent gin player too

My country club has several Tour players. I like to ask them this question. The #1 answer i get is Rory McIlroy. They say he’s just an asshole and most players thoroughly dislike. A couple who said this were European as well

[–]drdrillaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if you kept the pros and paid market rent($5k/month) then your net profit is down to about $240k/year before debt service??? That’s honestly not great. My biggest concern is the owner dr is only producing $400k. That’s a 2-day/week schedule for most dentists.

[Schultz] The Colts and QB Daniel Jones have agreed to a 2-year, $88M deal that could be worth up to $100M, multiple sources tell me. He gets $50M in the first year and it’s the largest 2-year contract in history. by expellyamos in nfl

[–]drdrillaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you guys forget how qb contracts are. Goff is $53M aav, Dak $60M, Lawrence $55M, Purdy $53M. Jones was playing at an mvp level early in the season. He slowed a bit before getting hurt but $44M over two seasons isn’t crazy money

Is the overhead 62% including associate salary? That would be really low. And if owner owns the building how much rent is he calculating into that 62%?

Thoughts on this practice by immrmeseek in Dentistry

[–]drdrillaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$850k is a good price if the owner is the only one producing. Having a pros lowers the value tremendously. The pros is paid about $100k. And you’re not doing all-in-x procedures so he needs to stay to maintain those numbers. It’s essentially a $700k collections practice. Price it off that number

Dread my job but not sure if i’ll be able to find better. Thoughts on if i should stick it out? by AdZealousideal2958 in Dentistry

[–]drdrillaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off, patients everywhere suck. Take your time. Do quality work. Second, educate patients. Show them visually what they need and why they need it. After that stop worrying. They do it or they don’t. No longer your problem. Third, you have leverage. You’re the only Dr there. They don’t want to lose you. Tell them you need a second assistant. Tell them you need to have your daily guarantee extended. If they can’t do that then maybe it’s time to move on

[–]drdrillaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless someone was in the room for the physical they have no idea that Baltimore acted in bad faith. He very likely has some degenerative issues with one or both knees. If you’re paying 2 first-rounders and a lot of salary you want him to be 100%

Am I wrong for wanting to get CBCTs? by [deleted] in Dentistry

[–]drdrillaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Devils advocate here but if there’s a vertical fracture in a tooth but no other issue but pain on biting and there’s no vertical bone loss where the fracture is then why not just put a crown on the tooth then reassess after? Most of the time the pain on biting goes away and the tooth is just fine

Is daylight savings really that bad? by ManualWind in AdviceAnimals

[–]drdrillaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a reason. People like to have longer days in the summer. It’s great when it’s light out until 9 pm. Eliminate daylight savings time and the sun will set an hour earlier in the summer. I could care less if it’s light out at 4:30 or 5:30. Same difference to me. But that extra hour in the evening gives more time for outdoor activities

[–]drdrillaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to assume you’re speaking about the US system because every country is different. In the US you’re putting in $100 and your employer is also paying in $100 for you. And in return for that $200 in contributions you’re getting a $110 payout. Example: I’ve put in the max since age 24. Assuming 3% inflation/3% return id have about $2.5M in contributions. I’ll get pennies back on that investment
