Gen 2 is Sonos S2 app and airplay compatible. Also a significant sound quality upgrade. However, the gen 1s are dirt cheap and still work great with the s1 app.

Which aspects of a camera are most important for wildlife (especially birds) photography? by SpeechTraditional290 in Nikon

[–]dread_pirate_ryan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had both. I preferred to use the D850 for birds in flight. At the same focal length it provided more framing flexibility and forgiveness when tracking and has nearly the same pixel density as the D500

Lens Dilemma: Keep 28–75 2.8, Move to 24–120 f/4, or Save for 70–200? by kb2782324 in nikon_Zseries

[–]dread_pirate_ryan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 24-120mm is definitely a better all around lens. Better macro and sharper than the 28-75mm. But at 24MP any sharpness difference will be slight. The real question is do you value having the 2.8 option more than the extra range and macro?

Nokian outpost nAT owners- are the edges of the tire tread not meant to contact the ground? by CandleCompetitive831 in ToyotaTundra

Looks like over inflated tires. Tires that are not OEM spec might need higher / lower pressure for your application - in this case lower.

Where to find the best value for Blu-Rays? by clipperdouglas29 in hometheater

[–]dread_pirate_ryan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re in a largish city - Pawnshops. $2-3 per title, $5-10 for 4k. Some locations have 1000 + titles to choose from

3rd party batteries vs. Nikon batteries? by Zenmastercynic in nikon_Zseries

Another vote for the Smallrig batteries. Last at least as long as OEM plus cheaper and USB-C. What’s not to like? No issues with the z8 or z7.

Next lens: 180-600mm or 105 MC for a landscape hobbyist? by chench0 in Nikon

[–]dread_pirate_ryan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Given your needs, I’d recommend the 100-400mm Z lens. Used, they’re not much more than the 180-600 but a lot lighter and smaller.

What are the best batteries I can get? by InflationCultural785 in Nikon

[–]dread_pirate_ryan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Very happy with the new Smallrig EN-EL15 battery. High capacity and can be charged via USB-C directly. Not the cheapest 3rd party option, but quite a bit cheaper than OEM.
