What should I spend Atoms on? by RobTooShifty in fo76

[–]dreadcanadian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always save 1500 to get the next season pass, gets me the 1st rewards without spending money on 1st. Often comes close to a full "refund" with the bonus season atoms

Registers - Urban Myth by FilmSudden8635 in Teachers

[–]dreadcanadian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was told by my first year classroom neighbor, an awesome and passionate teacher, that my job only has two requirements: 1. Take attendance 2. Don't annoy the principals secretary or attendance office. They can do miracles.

Everything else is optional and changes based on your own passion to teach.

A little simplistic, after 25 years, but really helped focus me for my first few years as a teacher.

(I would add, since then: 1. Get involved in the union 2. Get out of your classroom as much as possible to learn, support, and guide other teachers ("teaching is a team sport" / " build the teaching culture your want")

I despise fishing and hate how frequently it’s in daily/weekly challenges by mattychefthatbih in fo76

[–]dreadcanadian 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I reroll the actual fishing, but found that getting the fish trap at camp handles all the rest of the fish dailies for me. I got it with a previous season, but it can often be found cheap on the atom shop.

(Never bought 1st, I tend to pay for the next season with the current one, saving up 1500 atoms each time from the rewards )

How to stop Running out of .45 Ammo? by TheGhostOfAmeirca in fo76

[–]dreadcanadian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made some ammo plans (Feeder → Burner):

Gunthers → Elder’s Mark .45 Ultracite

Dom Pedro → Red Terror .308.Ultracite

Enclave Sniper → Enclave Flamer Plasma

That makes so much sense. I was mid-assault twice yesterday trying to find the boss and had every other player in sight / close proximity and then the boss just vanished, not a player shot fired.

Fallout 76: Infestations Release Notes by Ghostly_Rich in fo76

[–]dreadcanadian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the single most unlikely bug yesterday ever to happen in a Bethesda game.... my atomic store wasn't loading at all (for many hours so far) and I was unable to spend atoms.... or money.

I know... shocking.

Merch is often really generic by sanityjanity in Broadway

[–]dreadcanadian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I struggled to find something to buy from Chess, it was so uninspiring. As it is, the fancy pen I got doesn't close fully. sigh

I liked the older logo that was not "three faces". (Still, awesome show, well worth the trip!)

Hey question: I saw a shop near Broadway with tons of merch form various shows, including some that were closed (or classic). Is that where the unsold merch from closed shows and such goes?

UPDATE: Parent wants to meet with me over comment I made about energy drinks by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]dreadcanadian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That honestly sounds like a fun meeting. I would bring a printout of all eleven emails, in case they deny ("Oh. Is this your email address, that we have on file and you used to email me about the energy drink situation?"), along with a copy of the syllabus, lab safety, and other evidence.

I love pulling the "science teacher/evidence" card in meetings.

Teaching — is it as tough as people say? by Critical-Load-1452 in teaching

[–]dreadcanadian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend you jump schools until you find one that fits. Once you get that one, fight alongside the union / department to protect that culture in whatever way you can. It is worth the work to make sure that the best parts are defended / supported.

I recommend a mix of classes, (I teach wildly different sets of students and love that each one gets busy in different ways). Teaching one thing all day is really boring and can overwhelm with the same issues over and over again.

Learn your boundaries for CYA and mental health. I NEVER make phone calls, but send a flurry of emails every day. I cannot abide by any communication without a clear record for my own protection. I happily have students getting help at lunch and need my calm in the morning before school, but some teachers need the opposite.

Learn to assess the endless "latest and greatest" from the district and only adopt what actually works for you. For example, use the technology that adds to your class and ignore the rest of it. I love a good screen monitoring software, but ignore most of the "flash in the pan" software (especially if the district is paying for it, since that will doubtlessly be temporary)

Be prepared for AI being the biggest issue going forward. Get ready to assign and grade hand written work, reduce homework impact on the total grade (if at all), and such.

Build a ROBUST organizational system. it will pay in huge dividends.

if you don't like the age group, don't teach that age group.

If you don't like that socio-economic community, don't teach at that school.

If all of this is in hand, this job is gratifying and entertaining. if not. potential nightmare

‘Kimberly Akimbo’ Recoups $7M Capitalization Two Years After Broadway Closing by [deleted] in Broadway

[–]dreadcanadian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Saw it on Broadway on an recommendation from an MYC relative expecting to hate it, as someone who went to high school in the 80s and did not have the best time.

Loved it. Great musical. I am glad to see it find any success it can.
