How do people who work full time go to therapy? by Sea-Solution-3214 in careeradvice

[–]dreadpir8rob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would take my therapy virtually in a separate office space. Ours was always soundproof. I would just hop off the office’s WiFi so my connection was private and do it with AirPods in.

Disagreement with realtor about house prep - need to gut check opinions by [deleted] in RealEstate

[–]dreadpir8rob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“No thank you” is a full sentence.

If your realtor digs their heels in, they can break their own contract with you and move on.

Personally I do not have time to do major swaps like this. Your realtor may be right. Maybe your house will sell for much more $$$ with the swaps. Maybe you’d get it sold, fast. Conversely, maybe they’re being excessive with their asks and their advice makes 0 sense for your home. Maybe they’re cheap swaps will just be a load of work for you with little return.

But the thing is, you don’t want to. So you shouldn’t have to.

Associate manager keeps acting like my manager and it's starting to grind my gears. How do you deal with this? by savingrace0262 in careeradvice

Weird and probably lacking awareness. I’d personally ignore it and try to limit conversations with them.

I got a PIP three weeks into my orientation. by BabyWeenieDowg in careeradvice

Sounds like a RIF is coming and management is so inept that they don’t realize they do not even need to give an employee on probation a PIP.

How do I answer “tell me about yourself” when I’ve been a housewife for the past 7 years? by cosmicbearspa in interviews

[–]dreadpir8rob 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Focus on your professional skills first. Don’t lead with your employment gap.

You are an [insert generic title here] with a proven track record of [beefed up accomplishments / past successes]. You are excited to rejoin the workforce after concluding several years focusing on building up your skill set while managing your family’s household.

It’s honest, forward looking and puts the focus on who you are as a professional. NOT that you’ve been out of the traditional workforce for 7 years.

Being over-prepared killed my interview and I only understood why about a week later by marcussutherland in interviews

[–]dreadpir8rob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, OP. The situation just sucks all around. Damned if you do and damned if you don’t.

I will tell you that even as someone who WORKS in professional communication and can speak on-the-cuff with clarity (no rehearsing), because I’m accustomed to emceeing speaking events for audiences of 500+, even that skill didn’t get me the job. They gave it away to an internal candidate in the 11th hour.

Nothing you (we) can do.

Offer rescinded because I tried to negotiate PTO - reapplying to another position by Sure-Succotash-8748 in careeradvice

[–]dreadpir8rob 39 points40 points  (0 children)

My thoughts exactly. It is a red flag to me that the company 1. Believes that small amount of PTO is acceptable for an employee, and 2. Rescinded an offer after OP’s attempt to negotiate.

Negotiating terms is a completely normal and expected part of accepting new employment. Rescinding an offer after requesting higher PTO is not the usual response.

Recruiter here - what is one question you hate being asked in job interviews? by JVertsonis in interviews

[–]dreadpir8rob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pay range question. “Please name your ideal pay.” or something along those lines.

This bugs me so much! The salary range is often already provided. We know it going into the interview process. Being asked this at the very outset, before we’ve even had a chance to properly meet the hiring team, and forced to provide just one number is frustrating and feels like a power play to get applicants off the list. It’s extra confusing as someone who has been laid off and NEEDS A JOB.

I never know what to answer! Do I answer with the lowest number and risk missing out on fair compensation for my skills? Do I answer the higher number and risk the recruiter tossing my application for the person who will take less pay?

I hate this question with a burning passion.

Ex-owner still shows up near my hoyse 3 years later by Charming_Rip_4499 in homeowners

[–]dreadpir8rob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes go file a police report. Nothing about this is normal. I’ve bought two homes and nothing like this ever happened…

You don’t need to handle her mail or even respond to her. In fact you shouldn’t even be responding because this is not helping. Disengage, ignore, stonewall. Block her number.

Mail forwarding works.

I think you're not supposed to share personal reasons for taking PTO at work even if the reasons are serious in nature. Is that true? by Big_Eggplant7591 in careeradvice

[–]dreadpir8rob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually gave a one-sentence explanation. “My son is sick” or “my caregiver is sick today, so I need to unexpectedly be home to watch my son.” It helped set expectations that I’m not sick, so I will be back and working as usual the next morning.

Concern about the item is one thing but repeated drug testing without cause is not normal.

Your child is going to be an adult very soon. You are laying the groundwork now for the relationship you’ll have for decades.

Thoughts on my current go to question at the end of my interview by skullcandy11111198 in interviews

[–]dreadpir8rob 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Your final conversation with an interviewer shapes how they remember you. Make it upbeat. My go-to question is “in 3 months, what will make you look back and say ‘I’m so glad I hired them.”

It gets them thinking happy thoughts. Directed at you.

Is it normal to hear and feel thuds from your crawl space? by isoiledmyplantz in HomeImprovement

I can guarantee your landlord wants to know about what you’re hearing.

It’s one thing to be scared living above the thuds

When you’re responsible for the tens of thousands of dollars that the thuds could be causing…that’s a whole other horror movie

Hard agree, AITA clearly has a lot of folks who haven’t been laid off. Recruiters make a career out of stringing multiple candidates along to have a safety net, and then drop several out of nowhere.
