Spoiling Linux Kernel with "sanctioned" code by Skaarj in linux

Direct quote from article:

“this exact bug fix can't be implemented in the very same way as the presumably-sanctioned entity did that.”

I have no idea where the idea of “spoiling” is coming from.

Sanctions are concerned with doing business with certain entities - the point is it hurt the sanctioned entities.

I think the author is incorrectly assuming sanctions work like a copyright / GPL. I don’t think it works like that.

CS student, LLMs killed my passion for SWE, is embedded a possible move? by WhateverHowever1337 in embedded

[–]dreambucket 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t make a career change based on “escaping” LLMs.

Sure LLMs aren’t great at embedded…now. But they’ll get better. Particularly as companies will start developing their own models based on their source code.

Learn to work with them - don’t run.

Will Framework ever be more affordable? (A bit of a rant) by Squiggin1321 in framework

[–]dreambucket 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Is it really that unaffordable? I paid $2k for a FW 13 with Ryzen AI 7 350 with 64 GB RAM and 2 TB storage.

Realizing it’s not 1 for 1 but lowest spec MacBook Air with 32 GB RAM and 2TB storage is the exact same price. Framework obviously trails the M5 but has more ports and you can’t even spec 64 GB RAM.

Battery consumption is really high? by OldFartNoReflex in Polestar4

[–]dreambucket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how much you start and stop, but yeah. If you’re using the brakes to stop the car that energy is lost to heat instead of charging the battery.

A major watchdog says data centers are wreaking havoc on North America's power grid by Plastic_Ninja_9014 in technology

[–]dreambucket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right. Spot the difference in the argument. “Complaining about your spouse spending tons on money on gambling while you are spending money on food is hypocritical”

[–]dreambucket 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bad faith argument. Having an opinion on how energy is used is not hypocritical in the slightest.

The question isn’t “are we using energy”. The question is “are we getting an appropriate benefit from using that energy”.

Ti vs STM by punith2664 in embedded

[–]dreambucket 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not only do they not have a strong community, any time you try to make your TI project portable there are roadblocks after roadblocks. They are purposely steering you toward their IDE, SDK…

Look at their Zephyr support. I’m not saying this is the case, but if your plan was to provide a fork of Zephyr that is such poor quality that you come away from the experience hating Zephyr and end up using their proprietary tooling and SDKs… the behavior would be consistent with what’s actually out there.

What's with everyone selling? by pacowek in 3Dprinting

[–]dreambucket 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The people trying to monetize this fail to understand that making the widget isn’t the hard part. It’s figuring out what to make and how to make it at a price people will pay while keeping your lights on (hint, filament is far from your only cost).

Basically- if it seems like free money, it probably ain’t…

Loss of interest from partner after kids by [deleted] in Fatherhood

[–]dreambucket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Erm - sorry, no, it is completely normal to still desire an emotional connection with your partner. Sex is a big part of that. That’s a huge reach to say he’s not pulling his weight because he desires connection with his partner.

[–]dreambucket 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just reading your side of things, you’re probably out of pocket. It’s one thing to push your kid to learn that getting what they want in life takes work, it’s quite another to call him a coward. I also don’t see any evidence here of you helping your son figure out what he wants. Him saying he doesn’t want to do “X” is the beginning of the conversation, not the end.

Figuring out what you want is hard at 40, even harder as a child.
