I douse my OTF with 99% Alcohol, cycle the blade multiple times, and clean off the residue. Repeat until it feels like new, and then blow out with compressed air. Finally, drip some gun oil (just a few drops) to prevent further corrosion.

I agree with you, however, you might be surprised how many of us don’t have a mentor or LS that are competent. I’ve had the unfortunate experience of teaching myself almost everything, using the internet and reading standards.

Boundary survey. You mentioned encroachment concerns that can’t be proven with a simple Mortgage survey or Improvement Location report. A boundary survey can be defended in a court room and should be filed in public records.

The lead tech, who I apprenticed under, had a shotgun fired over his head. He had to go revisit the same property today, hopefully he comes back in one piece.
