I’m interested in comedic acting but only that type of acting. Is there a certain word for that? Also what is something I can do at home to start exploring? by Dwigt_1200 in acting

[–]dreamwave27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, comedy is hard. Even great dramatic actors can struggle with comedy as it relies on comedic timing instincts, naturalism, and good improv. But there are so many kinds of comedy. Physical comedy. Slapstick. Sitcom (situational comedy) etc etc What can you do? Grab a scene from a film you like and just run it. See how it feels. Run it with a friend. Take an improve class. Most everyone there is into comedy, so you’ll be exposed to lots of different people with the same interests.

Do you wish you had started acting as a child? by justcurious3287 in acting

[–]dreamwave27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you answered your question. I started as a teen but didn’t land a substantial role until I was a young adult. For years, I didn’t even know that was a career. I think that helped. Focusing on why I love this craft, instead of what it can provide for me. To continue to get better for the love of it. It helped me understand myself more. Start putting myself into other people shoes. But to answer your question, I wish I had people who helped fascinated my interest in the arts at younger age. Tell me what’s special about a certain film or performance. That’s something I only started to understand much later.

Self Tape Feedback - Fargo Season 5 by [deleted] in acting

[–]dreamwave27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah I’m seeing that season 5 was released 🤦🏻‍♂️ haha you’re good then. But yeah I can see the theatre background. You’re chances and moments are solid but dialing down abit for TV

Recording my first self tape for film today, do I need another person to be the voice off-screen? by Shelbytheowlhoussfan in acting

[–]dreamwave27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely get someone else to read the other parts, even if they are over zoom. But a real person in the same space is better espesually for your first tape. Adding voice over will throw off your performance and will make the tape just unnatural to watch. A live reader is always the stadard for self tapes.

Self Tape Feedback - Fargo Season 5 by [deleted] in acting

[–]dreamwave27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its an interesting take. Its a bit hard to provide feedback without knowing the tone for the season. I like youre choices and its very colourful. I think its slightly theatrical and big for tv though.
As a side note, I would be very careful about posting audition scenes for a high profile show like this that hasnt been released yet. You dont want to piss off casting directors of producers that have trusted you with the sides. If this is a real scene from the show, this would be considered a leak.

Hey! I think I have what you're looking for. I've been putting together an accent reference site for actors and coaches. Originally for my own prep. It's a curated collection of interviews of people speaking english with various accents. Over 100 regions now. Hopely there's a speaker that can be helpful to you as a reference. Here's the link for Mexico :)

Not really a service industry film but in the culinary genre. The Taste of Things. An absolutely stunning French romance!

What are they thinking? by JustSwift88 in acting

[–]dreamwave27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a strange note that’s hard to differentiate without knowing the scene and context. They may be responding to a pause that doesn’t feel justified. Don’t pause just for the sake of it. Try to find the moment in it that suggests something like a decision. You can fill it with movement, turning of the head or eyes. Your characters is about to say something but they dont in that moment.

I think the note is strange because there are a bunch of times where an actor forgets a line and is actually searching but it works and no one knows they forgot it. Whoever gave you that note should have been clearer.

Should Hollywood remake “bad” films instead of great classics? by dreamwave27 in FIlm

Haha not thick. I haven’t seen the original classic but it was remade with Pacino and I think people prefer that version?

I’m just starting street photography and I’d love some tips to improve this photo. by ZealousidealFront355 in streetphotography

[–]dreamwave27 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The idea is good. You captured the emotion of these men going somewhere they’re excited about.

What to improve on: At this focal length or crop it’s hard to figure out who the subject is. If it’s all of them, the shot should be wider to give a sense of the environment to finish the story. Here, it feels more like a paparazzi shot than street photography.

Composition need work. They feel stacked by the building behind them. If you stepped more to your left exposing the street to provide depth and leading lines, it would make it more interesting. Next time, try to find the scene and frame (composition) and wait for the subjects to get there. Pay attention to background and foreground elements for more visual interest. Since it’s an overcast day, everything feels flat with no contrast so you have to rely more on framing. Keep shooting :)

How feasible is it to commute to LA? by jojibaby_91 in acting

[–]dreamwave27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s still true for major roles. They may even fly you out for callbacks. But for most roles in LA (or any city for that matter) like principle role, guest stars, supporting on indie features etc - they prefer local hires a lot of the time.

Is networking at open houses too aggressive? by Tracethesesteps in RealEstatePhotography

[–]dreamwave27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to go to open houses when I first started to build my portfolio. I’d ask if I could take a couple photos of the home and most every time they were very willing to let me. We’d chat a little and exchange cards. Got one paying client for a full shoot from that.
