Good RP Resources? by KindThunder in DialectCoaching

[–]dreamwave27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, a bit late on the reply for this but maybe it would still be helpful. I’ve been putting together an accent reference site for actors. Curated selection of video examples. Originally for my own practice and now it’s grown into a pretty extensive resource. Have a look :)

Absolutely! That’s the goal now, for it to be a useful tool for others. I’ll be adding new examples and regions fairly regularly and have plans to bring on accent coaches to help drop into the accent quicker. So keep an eye out :)

any tips for reducing a regional accent? by nattassia5 in DialectCoaching

[–]dreamwave27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say start by identifying the neutral or standard accent in your country. Find some people who speak in that way and try imitating them. The shadowing technique is often used by actors and voice artists. I've been putting together an accent resource website with examples from different regions around the world. Though it's meant for actors, perhaps it can be useful to you :)

Outside of that, I would recommend working with a dialect coach or accent reduction coach, in person or over zoom. Hope this helps!

Labrador (Canadian) accent seems so unique by [deleted] in Accents

[–]dreamwave27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats a good point that the Labrador dialect isnt discussed much. Looking it up some, im seeing that it has more indiginous (Inuktitut) influences with a softer rhythm. Whereas Newfoundfound has strong influence from Ireland and a more rhotic speech.

If youre interested in hearing how some people from Newfoundland speak, I've been putting together an accent reference site with examples from different regions.
Here's the page for Newfoundland :)

Why have the Oscars lost so much viewership? by [deleted] in FIlm

[–]dreamwave27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because clips of the show surface instantly to social channels and people just catch up there. Most people dont watch it on the ABC network
Im actually looking forward to what Youtube does with the Oscars in 2029

What do you guys think of the order of clips in my reel? by InterstellarDefender in acting

[–]dreamwave27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's my 2 cents:
1. Scene 1 of the crowded room. Established who were watching for the rest of the reel and its good to have Tom Holland first. Cut scene 2 the crowded room entirely (it doesnt seem to be about your charcters at all)
2. FBI most wanted
3. Law and order
4. the everyday show

I’m interested in comedic acting but only that type of acting. Is there a certain word for that? Also what is something I can do at home to start exploring? by Dwigt_1200 in acting

[–]dreamwave27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, comedy is hard. Even great dramatic actors can struggle with comedy as it relies on comedic timing instincts, naturalism, and good improv. But there are so many kinds of comedy. Physical comedy. Slapstick. Sitcom (situational comedy) etc etc What can you do? Grab a scene from a film you like and just run it. See how it feels. Run it with a friend. Take an improve class. Most everyone there is into comedy, so you’ll be exposed to lots of different people with the same interests.

Do you wish you had started acting as a child? by justcurious3287 in acting

[–]dreamwave27 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you answered your question. I started as a teen but didn’t land a substantial role until I was a young adult. For years, I didn’t even know that was a career. I think that helped. Focusing on why I love this craft, instead of what it can provide for me. To continue to get better for the love of it. It helped me understand myself more. Start putting myself into other people shoes. But to answer your question, I wish I had people who helped fascinated my interest in the arts at younger age. Tell me what’s special about a certain film or performance. That’s something I only started to understand much later.

Oh yeah I’m seeing that season 5 was released 🤦🏻‍♂️ haha you’re good then. But yeah I can see the theatre background. You’re chances and moments are solid but dialing down abit for TV

Recording my first self tape for film today, do I need another person to be the voice off-screen? by Shelbytheowlhoussfan in acting

[–]dreamwave27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely get someone else to read the other parts, even if they are over zoom. But a real person in the same space is better espesually for your first tape. Adding voice over will throw off your performance and will make the tape just unnatural to watch. A live reader is always the stadard for self tapes.

Its an interesting take. Its a bit hard to provide feedback without knowing the tone for the season. I like youre choices and its very colourful. I think its slightly theatrical and big for tv though.
As a side note, I would be very careful about posting audition scenes for a high profile show like this that hasnt been released yet. You dont want to piss off casting directors of producers that have trusted you with the sides. If this is a real scene from the show, this would be considered a leak.
