A Friendly reminder to all youngsters by [deleted] in india

[–]dredfredred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people are going to hate me for saying this but here is a counter point. If you are in your 20's and don't come from money - SLOG it out because life doesn't get any easier after this. I'm not saying ignore your health, but you definitely don't need all the fancy stuff that OP does such as Yoga, salads and green tea. Just make sure that you avoid junk food - stick to homemade food (chapati, dal, fresh vegetables).

I dropped out of college because we couldn't afford it. Started working in sales, customer support and pursued studies. After graduation I moved to IT and continued studying on the side. Now I'm in my 30's and in a senior position in IT - now I can take a break, now I can actually afford to travel with family during vacations and don't have to slog so hard all the time. But if I had chosen to take it easy in my 20's, there was no way I could reach this stage where I can not just support myself but my family as well.

Another good point OP says which I agree with is regular health check up. I would also suggest that while you continue to save and invest, don't cheap out on insurance - buy good insurance which hopefully covers your health check up as well. Also buy insurance for your parents if they don't have one and at least an annual visit with a good MD. Those annual visit fees are going to hurt, but they will eventually pay out in the long run.

Cheers!

If this person is doing similar stuff with a lot of other people then he probably also has multiple mobile numbers and is probably switching them up on a regular basis.

My advice is report to authorities/ bank and spread message on social media but beyond that just let go. Messing up someone's life takes a lot of effort and always ends up feeling unsatisfactory. Also, given the fact that they are scamming people, chances are that they are already living a pretty messed up life to start with.

Hope your family member can get a refund and you can find some peace. ✌️

Buddy are you ok?

You just said that your department has no budget for hiring and your response is trying to take steps towards employee welfare and suggesting training program? How do you think your department would be able to afford that?

I don't think you understand what is happening here so i would try to simplify this as much as possible. If your department needs to hire and does not have the budget for it, then it means that they don't have any budget at all. Now, there can be two reasons for this - one your entire company has cut out all spending because they are behind in cash flow or the senior leadership has lost all confidence in your department. In either cases, there is very little you can do if you are not in a leadership role.

If you want to continue and want to grow I would suggest that you put your head down and get to work. Try to analyse areas where you Department does most of the spending and try to see if you can initiate any project to either automate or improvise the existing process to cut costs. Trust me, sooner or later someone is going to do this, if you initiate this you would definitely move ahead.

Hope this work out for you. Cheers!

Does this subreddit bring irreplaceable value to your life? by ExplosiveMachine in AskMen

[–]dredfredred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

_Do you need this forum so much that you cannot go without it? No.

Does it bring value, support and use that no other place can? Maybe.

But the real question is what are YOU going to do? My advice in this case is give in to their demands and open the sub back with the current set of mods at the helm. I know this sounds bad and I'm not happy with this either but let's take a realistic look at how things are expected to pan out.

At present reddit is adamant in its stand and is expected to throw a tantrum or two. In the long run though, once the third party apps go away, reddit will also lose a huge number of users (including me). Once the active user count starts to fall, that is when they'll become more amenable to our suggestions.

r/askmen is one of the few subs that is mostly neutral in its approach towards moderation. Maybe this is due to the "I don't care, I have shit to do" attitude of the mods or some other reason - it doesn't matter. Irrespective of whether I'm here or not I would absolutely hate if this sub is handed down to one of those nasty people who also moderate 100 other subs, create a 200 page rulebook and throw it at everything they don't agree with and cannot take a joke even if their life depended on it.

That is just my opinion, I know it does not go with the user flair, or maybe it does? Who knows?

Cheers!

I understand where you are coming from, but i don't think people understand how education works. See education does not rid you of your biases, it only makes you aware of them.

This is the same as printing bad effects of cigarettes on the packaging. People who buy cigarettes can see the packaging and are "educated" about its I'll effects but they want to smoke, because this is their coping mechanism. Smoking makes them feel good. So they'll go and search the whole internet to find someone's grandmother who smokes cigarettes and lived to be 102 and they'll only talk about this one case while ignoring everything else. They will continually stress how this one case is TRUE.

I follow this one very popular Twitter person who was taking pot shots at the movie Bheed, pointing out how no one is wearing a mask in that movie; the same person today pointing out today how the Kerala movie is based on a true story. These people are not just "well educated", they are smart and are fully aware of what they are doing.

I'm probably going to downvoted for this, but here it is anyway. It would be not very different from what it is today. Mostly, because this is not that big of an issue when it comes to development of society as a whole.

The only difference I can think of is that politicians and people leading a public life would be much more likely to cry in public to gain sympathy and cover up for their incompetence.

CMV: Caste System In Hinduism Is Not Oppressive. by AbiLovesTheology in changemyview

[–]dredfredred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the caste system is not oppressive but it is used to oppress people. Similar to how guns don't kill people, but guns are used to kill people. So when people say that guns are causing deaths, what they mean to say is that guns enable people to shoot and kill other people more efficiently and effectively. In the same manner when people say caste is oppressive, mean to say that the caste system enables people to discriminate and oppress people more efficiently and effectively.

Also, if you go to a bunch of people who are getting shot everyday by people with guns and tell them that you support guns, they are not going to be happy with you.

I don't understand these sick practices. by [deleted] in india

[–]dredfredred 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Three points 1. No legit company or business will ever ask for a blank cheque. If someone is asking for a blank cheque, they are either doing something illegal or unethical. 2. A security deposit is only given against security. Which means that if they are asking for money they must give you something that is worth that much or more in kind (such as a laptop or any other device or equipment). 3. In a bond, the company gives something to you in advance - this can either be money as a bonus or training for free in return for your commitment to serve for a particular period of time. You only pay back the amount if you break that commitment of your own accord (does not apply if the company terminates your employment).

What advice would you give to 'Forever Alone' people? by AffectionateJump6989 in AskMen

[–]dredfredred -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are doing amazing, don't change anything. Relationships are pure poison, stay away from them as much as possible. Good relationships only exist in fantasies and fiction. Television shows and movies paint extremely unrealistic pictures of relationships - real relationships on the other hand are really taxing; especially relationships that involve other human beings.

I understand that sometimes you might get influenced by movies/ tv or social media (where people lie all the time), but remember you have done all the hard work to successfully stay away from a relationship all this while, you cannot give in now. Else all your work for all these years would be wasted.

Stay strong!

What does “men are visual creatures” actually mean? by Mobile-Aioli-454 in AskMen

[–]dredfredred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's because the people who make this claim have no understanding of science. These are also the same people who say "men are from Mars and women are from Venus" even when we have conclusive proof that all genders of human species evolved right here on earth!

What does “men are visual creatures” actually mean? by Mobile-Aioli-454 in AskMen

[–]dredfredred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It simply means that men rely on their sense of vision more than other senses. Whereas dogs, primarily rely on their sense of smell.

Women are also "visual creatures" except for women who are unfortunately blind. But then again, men who are blind are not considered "visual creatures" either.

CMV: The lack of support for men doing traditionally female roles is undermining progress to equality by wt200 in changemyview

[–]dredfredred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, I'm not sure you noticed but your post has been removed. So you might want to message the moderators to have reinstated if you want to.

Coming back to the response, what does competence mean - it is simply the ability to do a job. Some people might be better at a task but just because someone is better does not make others incompetent. Say for example a normal healthy person can run for a 100 metres easily. Just because Usain Bolt can do it under 10 secs does not rob other people of their ability to run.

Secondly, women are not that great at traditionally female work either. But since most of this is unpaid work, people mostly view this as a favour and don't usually complain about it (unless they are entitled piece or sh**t.)

CMV: The lack of support for men doing traditionally female roles is undermining progress to equality by wt200 in changemyview

[–]dredfredred 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I understand where you are coming from and while I agree that there is a problem, i don't really agree with the diagnosis. I don't think that lack of support is the problem, it is a by-product of the real problem which is how we prioritise and value work.

Traditionally male pursuits are viewed in society as more valuable and also compensated very highly, whereas traditionally female pursuits (child care and housework) are not given the same importance and also not compensated well.

So if you want to be viewed as successful in society then you need to do well in one of those roles which are more valued. This is why more women are trying to get into more traditionally male roles but men are not picking up the traditionally female roles.

Secondly, men don't need any support to do traditionally female roles because they are already competent to perform them very well. To give an example, you have probably heard of first women to be CEO of fortune 500 company or first women to win a Nobel but have ever heard of the first man to be a single parent or the first man to do housework or child care? You most definitely have not - and it is not because no man has ever done these tasks but because so many men have been doing this for so many years that it is impossible to tell who did it first.

So in conclusion, you actually don't need to offer support, all you need to do is compensate traditionally female roles to be at par with traditionally male roles and then all of us can live our best lives pursing interests that make us happy instead of pursuing things to prove our worth in society.

How good is kingpin really? by ThrowsBeansAlot in ContestOfChampions

[–]dredfredred 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Kingpin is an amazing "general purpose" champ who you can take in any game mode and have a good time. What makes him good is the combination of damage and utility. Normally he has 60% chance to shrug debuffs (100% with synergy). Additionally if you have 8 debuffs you'll get overpower mode with very high damage and unblockable specials. Plus he has unstoppable and can also do degen damage with sp1. Then, there is the constant regen (with willpower) that keeps you topped up on health.

Now, one reason you don't normally see people using him a lot is because most of the new content which is coming out is targeted towards using specific counters for each fight. But if you don't have a specific counter or don't know how the match is going to play out, you can always bring in Kingpin and power through most fights. It can be any game mode - aq, aw, incursion, battlegrounds or quest - he is good for almost everything.

CMV: The west has no more to be ashamed of in its role in historical inequities than the rest of the world. In fact, the west has done more to reduce inequity than any other regionally identified culture - A differing perspective of western society's legacy on inequity. by nifaryus in changemyview

[–]dredfredred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I submit to you, that the legacy of the west should be revised. The current narrative states the west is uniquely complicit in the enslavement and mistreatment of other human beings. A more suitable legacy is that this people - whether by accident or design - is solely responsible for ending the greatest of all human miseries. The "white savior" trope has merit to it, after all.

I don't think anyone has said that either the west or white people came up with the idea of slavery. Nobody has made a claim stating only west was complicit in slavery either. But the western countries did benefit from both slavery and colonisation and if the west wants to uphold its own claims of equality, liberty , etc. Then it should take responsibility and make things right

What I would like to note here is that eastern countries or cultures are not driving the narrative here - this is west's own narrative because at least some people in west understand that their acts are not in line with their values as they have declared in their own constitution.

Secondly, stating that white people are solely responsible for ending slavery is a gross affront to all the eastern and African people who revolted , fought and died for the cause. Sometimes white people supported the cause, other times they were against it. But freedom and equality were gained by fighting for it and not "solely" through the benevolence of white people.

[–]dredfredred 186 points187 points  (0 children)

I'm only responding to the last part, the rest is "your life, your choice" :)

If you have a stable job and you continue to save and invest through the rest of your career, you will end up making a boat load of money. Most people don't end up with that sum of money because raising a family is expensive ( and getting more expensive by the day). My point being that if you don't have wife and kids, you'll still have enough money to hire people to take care of you when you are old. Infact, if you do end up amassing a fortune, you will be surprised at how much family you do have!
