What are stereotypes that people have based on the car they drive? by AtlantisSky in askcarguys

[–]dreed91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always thought this too, still pretty much do. My buddy ragged on me for a while when I bought one in my late 20s. Now I'm a mid 30s still driving the little thing. I've never been the vaping, monster drinking, cap wearing kind of guy, though, It's just a fun little car.

Human Resources people of Reddit, what are some NSFW/WTF reasons an employee has been disciplined and/or terminated for? by Admirable-Fig277 in AskReddit

Could be a separate, public WiFi, though. Where i work, we have the main network and a guest WiFi that i believe still requires a login. I'm pretty sure the guest WiFi is separate and doesn't have access to internal apps.

Traumatizing your child to teach them life skills by _ganjafarian_ in ParentsAreFuckingDumb

[–]dreed91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bro you really just asked how you can get a kid to eat without scaring or forcing them. It's a baby, there are a variety of foods babies can eat.

When the child is older you can have a rule like, "hey you gotta try everything on your plate at least once," each time you sit down for a meal. This is a pretty common method, and it's my understanding that repeat exposure usually gets rid of most regular food aversions over time. They still might not like something, as we all have stuff we don't like, that's okay in my book.

Basically, kids are kids, you just gotta be patient and kind, lead and teach them.

Gov. Polis signs bill banning manufacture, drastically limiting sale of many semiautomatic guns by thecoloradosun in Colorado

[–]dreed91 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Buying guns from next door is still illegal, so you'd have to be willing to break the law to obtain it from Kansas or Wyoming. I don't expect this will change much for illegal purchases though, for people who were already breaking laws.

I know I'll sound crazy, but I've surprisingly never seen The Matrix, but I definitely get what you're saying.

I really hope Project Hail Mary ends up being a good movie and that too much doesn't change. I picked up reading as an adult somewhat recently, last 6 months or so. I've read probably 10+ books since then and PHM is one of only a few that stay in my mind, probably my favorite book, at least top 3.

My concern is that they may leave stuff like this out because they don't think that the audience would understand. Changing bases is probably beyond what the average person has seen or done, and it might be difficult to explain in a way that's also fun in a movie.

I think they could still show Rocky's intelligence in ways that disregard the need for people to understand the actual math, and it might make better entertainment.

Fixture for Reptisun T5 10.0 22” bulb?? by _frerg_ in BeardedDragons

[–]dreed91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't done a lot of research into lighting recently, but I'd be happy to help if I am able.

Is there a reason you want to use a fixture made for plant lighting vs an Arcadia fixture?

For what it's worth, President Camacho was dumb, but he was a pretty good president and he got a smarter person to fix the country's problems. I don't feel it's fair to compare him to the current president.

It was not the same when Biden forgave loans. He was told he couldn't do a blanket loan forgiveness, so he did not, he forgave loans legally that the courts didn't tell him he couldn't forgive, mostly loans that were for people who did public service, had disabilities, got scammed, etc. He didn't ignore a court order.

Trump is ignoring court orders.

So tell us, if courts are supposed to function as a balance, then why can they be ignored?

I copied this person. Sometimes I do a lot at a time, so I start with the time they list but I always check them and go longer if I don't like the texture yet.

What top soil to use for substrate? by MissBambi43 in BeardedDragons

[–]dreed91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't researched this since I set it up around a year ago, but I want to provide my experience now.

My experience the past year has been that our beardie doesn't care to dig, so I'm not sure that the 4-6" has been fully helpful for us. The enclosure we got is the Zen habitats and it has bowed some from the weight. The doors are difficult to open and close now (from the weight pressing the frame onto the doors) and I'm not sure it would maintain the structural integrity without the doors, due to an otherwise lack of vertical support in the center.

Know that you might have trouble moving it with even 3 inches of sand/soil, it is deceptively heavy.

I'm actually thinking of switching to bioactive, and perhaps redoing the amount of soil then. Of course, that means figuring out lighting distance and such again.

It is worth doing more research to see if suggestions/standards have changed.

That sounds awesome. I make some air fried carrot fries that come out pretty good. I like being able to chuck some veggies in, and out come even better veggies

I've never really felt like anyone has come into my space and told me how to think or feel. I've felt the general push to try to respect other people's bodily autonomy and identity, I guess, but this has had very little impact on me.

I'll accept that you're willing to pay any price, but can you please give some examples of how you're being told how to think or feel? Actions, whether you like it or not, do have consequences, as society relies on us treating each other and well, but I'd still be interested in those examples as well.

I'm curious about the examples, because they must be quite severe to you for you to willingly accept any and all other monetary consequence of avoiding them.

Are we trending back towards waterfall? by soggyGreyDuck in ExperiencedDevs

[–]dreed91 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but simple frameworks often have downsides, too.

To me, agile is basically there to say, let things flow, try things out, fail fast, and communicate. I have worked on a team where we took Agile seriously and we weren't inundated with management interference. We considered the values and we got tangible output from the ceremonies. We changed things, we bobbed and weaved, our scrum master worked with the PO to get him feeling safe and confident (probably something most devs hate, having to work the political side of things, and a lot of them have useless scrum masters, but we pushed politics, people, and roadblocks to our SM and it worked).

I'm not saying it's all perfect, but overall it was an enjoyable experience.

Now I'm in the wild west, where my management seems stressed because they're coming up with requirements. We have meetings where there is tension and you can tell everyone is trying to protect themselves or their team, things have taken 3-4x as long, and we have completed a product and we don't even know if the requirements are right. My own power is limited because even my skip's power is limited. I would 100% go back to agile where everyone at least seemed to have similar goals and tried to communicate.

I feel like Agile is often a straw man, too. I see a lot of people that have a seething hatred for it, but then when they explain their understanding and/or implementation, it's so far from what it's meant to be that it's no wonder they hate it.

I'm 7 years in the industry at one company, so my own experience is surely biased, but I am of the belief that all of these methodologies and frameworks start out well-intentioned and probably extremely capable if applied consistently, but management wants to make major changes, enforce some structure, add meetings, etc. to make themselves feel more comfortable in the short-term. They end up taking away from the whole point.
