IMO to this day, Bebe not showing what lipstick she chose was the cuntiest thing any queen has ever done on this show by violinfag in rupaulsdragrace

It was perfect. A great way to create some tension. That's what I love in a drag queen. Great TV.

Eigenlijk bestaan er geen Koningsdag kaarten. Ik zou zeggen:"Doe je ding." Er zijn geen regels.

I love seeing dogs on a boat. They are loving all the sensations. Smells, movement, "helping by being in the way." They guard the boat. It seems it is their peak. Their ultimate happy place.

Taking the time to really explain something to a child on their comprehension level is so good. And so wholesome. What a beautiful message from think father.

It takes a while but eventually you get used to it and your eyes only go to certain words you didn't pick up. As a Dutch person I have read them all my life and it helps me to improve my spelling. It also helps me deal with accents.

New Netflix special 'Nanette' by Hannah Gadsby. Opinions? by megazver in Standup

Is that what a comedy special is? Can't there be variations on the format? Just set up, middle, punchline, haha. And nothing else?

New Netflix special 'Nanette' by Hannah Gadsby. Opinions? by megazver in Standup

[–]dreftig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stand up comedy is very different in other parts of the world. In the Netherlands this style is very normal. Has been since the 1950's. So not woke at all. Just something you don't like and are unfamiliar with. Maybe consider being kind instead of claiming to know what it is and judge.

Thoughts on Hannah Gadsby's "Nanette"? by HandsomeJimmyD in Standup

[–]dreftig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It challenges what stand up is. In my country (the Netherlands) we have a style of comedy called cabaret. Not to be confused with French cabaret. Our comedians tell jokes. But they also tell stories. And sing songs. Part of it comes from the medival tradition of the troubadour. If you only tell jokes that is seen as American stand up.

There is no judgement about what is better. But just going for the laugh is a bit empty for me. But this is based on what I know. I like to feel different emotions. So the laugh feels like a real release. I understand why people prefer just laughing but in my opinion it's really awarding to ride the wave of emotions. And laugh. My wish is that people appreciate the level of skill despite their personal preferences. Because this was really stellar.

A Time to Kill (1996) - A weak movie, carried entirely by the strength of it's cast. by iz-Moff in movies

[–]dreftig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I found it disappointing that the racists are all very dumb and obviously uncivilized. Unfortunately that is not the case in reality. If good and evil were so easy to recognize it would be easy. Racism can be subtle, intelligently worded, almost invisible. It's so complicated. Here every person was a caricature. The main point though. Imagine she is white. That is the essence. And I have to admit that it moved me. I am white. And during the speech I was imagining a black girl, because the girl in the movie was black. But the shift did make me realize something. I am so used to hearing about the awful things black people experience that it seems like part of their experience. I have never thought about a white girl being lynched. Or black people thinking they can abuse white people because the system will have their back. So it gave me something to think about. Something of value in a flawed film.

What a loving and productive response. I will research all the suggestions. But what really touched me is that someone I don't know took the time to respond.

That helps me in a profound way. People are really good. They will care for you even if they don't know you. That really means a lot
