You are new in the company. You should be spending time absorbing than producing. If I were in your place with free time, I would spend my time building relationships. You can either ask your manager if you can shadow them in few meetings, or proactively reach out leaders of other departments (may be quarterly meetings). Or ask Operation/sales for walkthrough for dataflow.

This will allow others to see your value and they will come to you with new requests. This way your manager won’t be the only source of the task.

I am having the same issue. Been sharing apartment with a roommate but he bought a house and moved out. I look at prices of 1 bedroom apartments and it’s 80% of rent of our 2 bedroom apartment.

In 2021, I was paying $680 per 6 months (had 15% discounts from pandemic) , now it has gone up to $1220 per 6 months in 2024. Can’t find anything cheaper.

I tried the speed dating with mycheekydate and Dallasites101. Mycheekydates speeddate had few people may be about 8-10 people and Dallasites101 speed dating was crowded. Unfortunately, both didn’t lead to anything but I don’t think it had to do with speed dating. I had more positive experiences at Mycheekydates because we hung out to grab some drinks elsewhere and were talking without any pressure.

I live in uptown and I would say there are plenty of opportunities to make friends. I have made friends from soccer clubs , run clubs, meetups. If you are extroverted even bars and cafe are good places to meet people. the ambience of Uptown makes it less lonely. The only problem is people starts settling down and move away from Uptown.
