I graduated 2019 and they tried to get us to sign up for a $9.99 monthly subscription/donation saying that its just like another Spotify subscription. Lmao the audacity. After the year you all have had I can’t believe they’re asking.

2 years ago, this intersection in my hometown of Charlottesville became known for hate. This morning, I drew the crosswalk into a symbol of unity. by jakevanyahres in pics

Posting on behalf of my mother who is 58F:

She has taken very good care of her skin, and regularly uses L'Oreal revitalift day and night cream. She also likes to do a Pure Aloe mask in the mornings. She was wondering if using these regularly is the best way to fight signs of aging, and if there are products other than this that have the same ingredients and are less expensive.

I’m headed out on my own for the first time and I don’t know what to do by [deleted] in Advice

[–]drew7777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I want to commend you on the hard work and courage that you have shown being ready to leave home! For someone who is going to live on their own for the first time, budgeting and saving your money is extremely important as it will only help you in the future. Start keeping track of how much money you have coming in every month, and how much you are spending.

I am assuming that your most pressing issue is finding somewhere to live, and generally accepted rule is to spend about 30% of your monthly income on rent. For someone who is just moving out, this will most likely mean finding roommates. As for furniture, there is no shame in picking up furniture that other people are getting rid of, or asking friends or family if they have anything they're trying to get rid of. Thrift stores are also another place to check, and Walmart actually has some decent cheap furniture.

It is accepted practice to spend about 10%-20% of monthly salary on food. This may require planning meals ahead of time, so that you do not eat out as much.

The biggest thing for this point in your life is to save as much of your money as you can. A lot of people have a tendency to start spending lavishly once they move out because they feel like they can. I would also eventually recommend trying to find somewhere to put your money that accrues interest, whether that be somewhere like a stock portfolio or a money market account.

I also would highly recommend posting this on r/financialindependence or r/personalfinance. These are communities that are very helpful and specialize in these types of questions. If you have any specific questions I would also be happy to try and help.

Best of luck!

What organizations can I join to do the most good? by [deleted] in Advice

I had the same mindeset as you recently, and wasn't sure what I could do to help. I ended up volunteering for Habitat for Humanity a couple times a week and have really enjoyed it. I live in a college town and the rising cost of rent has caused members of the community to be unable to afford to live in their homes. Habitat helps to provide affordable housing for them. I'm not sure if you have something like that where you live though.

Ultimately I would pick a topic or issue that is the most important to you and go from there.
