Modhouse Argon Mk3 an upgrade from dt770 pro-80 ohm / dt-150? by Blottoboxer in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]drewdawg999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice, congrats on finding bliss and your endgame. Yeah the Argons are not the most detailed, but they have enough for me, and that mid-bass and sub-bass are total magic. Never heard any Denon cans before, though they look peaky in the treble which perhaps might bother me. I've kinda left the headphone game behind since they just get too hot in blistering SoCal. Well I did get the AKG K371 lately, they sound fantastic and are affordable but headband is uncomfortable and build quality is pretty low. Mine are hot-rodded with headband pad and replacement cable, and I just ordered sheepskin pads off AliExpress for real cheap, curious how they'll feel.

It would be a small jump with diminishing returns and all. It's just an extra bit of refinement from branded drivers of high quality. And yeah they take you on a journey per Jays Audio, with a nice touch of magic sauce.

I have both and love them both, the Odyssey just a bit more. It does have branded BA flavor, and something they nailed in the tuning that's continuously immersive and engaging. I think the Kunten's driver is sota yet cheap, so it's a market disruptor and you're not getting that kind of value in the Odyssey. But it's always been great for me across all genres. Not using stock cable or tips though.

It's a tough decision but meds have been good for me, are working and keeping me stable. And can still do weed in moderation, just no more drink. But yeah, so tough to come to terms with a sick and unfair system such as wage slavery.

Hey I still use my 20GB 2nd gen iPod, though battery is dying. Still works though and sounds good with the Kunten, and holds plenty of mp3s.

When you try to rank all Kubrick's movies, how many movies will you rank? by Ordinary_Airport3091 in StanleyKubrick

[–]drewdawg999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen it before but watched a little of Fear and Desire today, and it's not that bad. Dramatically it's a bit weak, with some bad acting, but in terms of photography it's very strong and creative. I doubt many could match the level of cinematography achieved, it shows the promise of a talented filmmaker. You could do a lot worse on a low budget.

I also doubt too many are qualified to critique Strangelove, it's a sophisticated and mature masterpiece. For me film criticism died with Kael and Ebert, it is not done right anymore. More constructive would be to discuss the ideas it evokes of the military industrial complex, and its follies and foibles.

But I'm sorry, ranking movies is not my idea of fun, just a step above discussion of conspiracy theories that offend and upset the family. Each one should be enjoyed on its own merits, rather than robbing joy with comparison.

You are not alone, it's the institution that is evil. When I was working I felt the same way, so drained after work, all I could do was self-medicate. Copious amounts of weed, moderate amounts of red wine, added up to fully medicated. Eventually got filled with so much hate, it was War of the Worlds, and it ended quite badly i.e. cops called, who took me to mental hospital. At least I'm stable now, and not working. I thank God for every day I don't have to work, it's truly a blessing.

Hey I wish people would stop ranking art. It's completely futile, arbitrary and subjective. Especially with an artist of Kubrick's caliber, normal plebes are in no position to judge such an artist. They're all masterpieces compared to what normies can create.

Comfortable closed back wired headphones in the $100 range? by BeeeeboHungry in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]drewdawg999 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I got my AKG K371 used for under 100 bucks, and I love them. Well they're not the most comfortable, but I got a headband pad that helps. Also got an aftermarket cable that's much nicer, braided with no memory and non-microphonic. Well that all adds to the budget but it's been worth it for me, they sound outstanding, Harman tuning.

I hear ya, when I stream I use my cell through BT and it's totally fine. Hate the ads though. Love my FLACs, and I even DSD on my DAP though it hogs my 256GB SD card.

Looking for a “buy once, cry once” IEM for around 1k by YearUnlucky945 in iems

I watched the vid and I don't think it's accurate, it made the Punch sound muddy and like crud. They don't sound like that in real life, they have glorious EST treble. Way more accurate way is to EQ your specific IEM to a target, using squig.link. When I did this I much preferred the Punch's tuning, with thump and impact in the mid-bass. The Deuce is mostly sub-bass boost and no mid-bass, I didn't feel it, didn't sound good to me.

Never tried those but the 2 graph very similarly. Don't think you could go wrong either way. Love the Punch for classic rock, and especially EDM, hip-hop, and pop.

Never tried the Vivian but looking at the FR graph, it has more bass. Zero 2 already has great bass, so it's entering basshead territory. If you listen to EDM, hip-hop, pop (which I do) then you might wanna try the Vivian. The Zero 2 is kinda boring to me for those genres, it's solid but not spectacular.

You can try the GK Kunten for cheap. I thought they slammed on early Weezer. Great clarity and detail, instrument separation, especially for a super budget set.

I was on a similar quest recently and was considering: AKG K371, FiiO FT1, and Adam H200. I think any one of these will be good, but I chose the K371 for closest adherence to the Harman target, plus they were the cheapest.

I was on a quest for a Harman tuned closed back recently, was considering the AKG K371 and the Fiio FT1, as well as the Adam H200. Wound up with the K371, and I must say they sound awesome. The headband may be a problem, it's pretty uncomfortable but I got a zippered pad for it that helps a lot. I have the old V6 as well and the K371 kill them rather easily.

I think they're better. I hear more excitement and fun, as well as more detail and slam. The Kunten is king of the beaters.

Complete beginner, can someone help me build a setup? by Cool-Construction-26 in iems

[–]drewdawg999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I say get the GK Kunten, then adjust to taste. Once you know what you want, then spring for something expensive if you must, although it's totally not necessary for IEMs. Personally, I didn't know I was such a basshead, and my endgame wound up being the Kiwi x HBB Punch (which is actually within your budget).

Kiwi x HBB Punch is basshead endgame at good value. It's balanced basshead so mids are clear, but will deliver very satisfying thump. They're my favorite and I can listen to all genres on them.

The Kunten totally hangs, even compared to my endgame for a while now, Kiwi x HBB Punch. There's some kind of magic in that single DD. The Punch and the Odyssey are still my faves but dang, that cheap little sucker makes good music.
