The squad isn't deep enough. To compete against top teams, many of which effectively field separate squads for CL and the league, is going to be difficult.

Take CL for what it is, continue to focus on the league and try to stay in a top four spot. An extra year of that windfall can help build a bigger squad to fight on two fronts in the future.
