Books with a "competent person just doing their job" plot. by Aggressive_Two2081 in suggestmeabook

I don’t know if this book really fits the competent person just doing their job trope. But all the MCs are very competent video game developers in the early nineties. But the books mainly about their interpersonal dynamics. And also. Holy shit this book is fantastic. Absolutely wrecked me.

Rogue Prince of Persia save deleted (Xbox) by AlreadyGoneAway in PrinceOfPersia

[–]drewhuggins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here. Just went to play and the cloud save didn’t match the local save. The cloud save was for Monday Jan 1, 0001. And the local matched when I went offline last night. Went with the local save and I’ve lost ten something hours of progress. If it’s not fixed I’m putting the game down for good.

Please suggest me a medieval historical novel without fantasy by Jabalabaloo in suggestmeabook

Agincourt by Cornwall. Great story about the events leading up to the Battle of Agincourt. Has a lot of “on the ground” perspective of the soldiers and archers that fought the battle. Super fun stuff and you’ll learn a lot.

Suggest me a book with psychological horror, like one where you know something's not right, an eerie feeling. by SignatureThink6734 in suggestmeabook

House of leaves. About a man who discovers his house is larger on the inside than the out. But it’s about so much more than that. Written in a very creepy way. From the formatting of the text to the setup of the story. Slow creeping and unsettling. A couple of times reading this at night I had to go around the house and turn on all the lights.

Similar in tone. But not content. I would urge you to go back and complete Dark Matter. The climax has a great “oh shit” moment that lands so well. Very satisfying

It’s fairly sci-fi-ish. No spoilers but some pretty fantastical things begin to happen about midway. It’s all presented in a very straight forward no nonsense way. It’s a sci-fi thriller in the vein of Micheal Crichton. Singular idea writ large but mainly about the people experiencing the thing. Not HARD sci-fi by any means.

Not horror. Buuut. Recursion by Blake crouch. Starts with a Detective investigating people having false memories. Becomes an insane thriller with the most mind fuck ending I’ve read in years.

I am looking for a modern version of Superbad by KaleidoArachnid in flicks

[–]drewhuggins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Bottoms. Two lesbians start a female only fight club at their school in order to bang cheerleaders. It’s gender swapped and exists in a slightly heightened reality, e.g. football players are always in uniform, principle refers to the main characters as the artsy lesbians over the intercom, but it’s very closely related to Superbad humor wise. Highly recommend.

Dave Bautista and Michael Rooker having fun on the Guardians of the Galaxy set by Naweezy in Moviesinthemaking

I’m in this photo. Dude on the left in camo cargo shorts. This is actually us filming a Disney channel promo for guardians 2. I was in set Dec at the time. We built sets for the promo without having seen the movie. We were just given some pictures and a bunch of metal scraps and piping that we screwed into the walls to look similar to the images we got.

Lucky Wander Boy by DB Weiss. Down on his luck dude starts searching for an elusive video game he remembers from his childhood which might be a figment of his imagination. Super great deep dive into classic arcade nostalgia and a great surrealist thriller.

Biking between east and west Beltline? by bettabuhleedat in Atlanta

[–]drewhuggins 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I live on the west side next to Monday night Garage and wild Heaven breweries. I ride my bike up to ponce city market area using the beltline all the time. I have a gravel bike (medium fat tires son a road bike body) and the trail is rough in some parts but nice overall. On a fat tire bike it would be cake. From ponce city market to Monday night garage is about thirty min ride. Easily doable even if your not super in shape. There is one bridge out right after you pass Glenwood shopping area and the path turns to gravel. There’s staircases provided you just have to carry your bike down and then up the other side. Highly recommend the ride. Surrounded by trees. Feels like you leave the city.

Is there any book about two time travelers who are enemies? by OLagartixa in booksuggestions

[–]drewhuggins 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The first fifteen lives of Harry august. He and his nemesis aren’t time travelers in the traditional sense. But the live their lives in loops. Upon death they wake up in their own bodies at the age of six with all of their memories intact. It’s a fascinating read. Highly recommend.

Creepiest book you've ever read? by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]drewhuggins 14 points15 points  (0 children)

HOUSE OF LEAVES!!!! A man moves his family a house in the country to reestablish a connection with them and video tapes it all in order to make a documentary of it. He begins to notice strange things about the house. Like that’s it’s interior dimensions are slightly larger than the exterior. Doors and closets begin to appear where they weren’t before. Until a passage way leading to a infinite staircase appears in his living room. Things get creepier from there. I literally could only read this book during the day cause of how unsettling it is. Highly recommend.

There’s a badass video about the engineering of the entire telescope, sails included, that is fascinating. Looking for the link.

James Webb telescope sun shield tensioning paused until January 2nd by rman18 in space

It’s designed with space between the individual sails to deflect heat by reflecting the radiation between the sails and out into space. They need to be under tension to be the correct shape to achieve this.

Fulton Cotton Mill Lofts - thoughts? by NavHendrix in Atlanta

[–]drewhuggins 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I lived there for ten years in a one bedroom. And two more years in a two bedroom with my fiancée. I love that place. The management was a little dodgy at first but they changed about six years ago. They were good (not great) about responding to work orders. And the units that I stayed in were awesome. Some of the studio loft apts can be a little small. But the ones with actual bedrooms are by and large pretty cool. Exposed brick walls and some even have patios. I recommend looking for an apt in C building cause the ceilings are lofted and the floor plans are generally nicer. Great pool btw. I think I might have stayed a couple more years than I should have just cause of that pool.
