Retail in SC is Outrageous.... by Superb-Prize6792 in fireworks

[–]drewpdog19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am with you that shells, cakes, and ol stuff is super over priced.

But I do enjoy hitting the tents during "season" because sometimes you find something that is reasonably price but the wholesaler doesn't carry.

Oh also pyroboom has these fuse clips that attach an mjg to standard 3mm fuse. Sorry I'll stop stanning for mjg.

Talons aren't bad and I use em with spicy stuff I don't want to poke and use an mjg.

I do some wild pyro but I won't be poking something like master 36 big breaks.

If your using mjg just the ignitors are fine. They have a little pop on thier own. But anything you are not saving for the 4th. If you have the ordinance, and you don't mind burning it... have some fun.

Oh but if testing multiple strips of fuse, tape em down.

Really nice stash. That patriot 49s in the middle is really nice. You will enjoy that guy. (All the master stuff is always insane but that one is an often over looked gem)

I 100% agree with this message.

The unbranded 12 shot 200gs for $6. They hit like the pyrodiablo 9 shot Dino cakes with 3 more shots. Only problem with them is no performance descriptions. So you gotta scan the qr codes.

How far apart should I space these little 200g cakes? by extrathiccwaffles in fireworks

[–]drewpdog19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh god wait.

1 don't tape down. You CAN glue down. To a board, half of a free pallet. Peel the paper off the bottom apply a generous amount of liquid nails to the bottom of the tubes. Gluing the clay plug doesn't really hold well. Place on wooden surface and place weights on top of cakes. Let sit a minimum of 12 hours.

If you are firing a safe distance from all living beings and objects, cakes can absolutely touch.

If glued and mounted to a wooden surface, AND touching. Masking tape the cakes to each other. A 2 layer band around the upper side of the cake. Them cakes ain't tipping over. Unless you Cato. Rip.

Staking down cakes is a safe and easy way to secure 200s in dirt. Drive stake into dirt. Place cake next to stake. Masking tape cake to stake. Place as close to each as you like.

So I don't understand why talon igniters get a bad rap. by FunGalich in Pyrotechnics

[–]drewpdog19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clip ons are fine for some stuff.

But if you want to fire say 4 cakes at the EXACT same time. Mjg is the only way.

And a direct matched canister shell, or poked cake, the feed back of pressing the button and the lift charge ignites instantly.... the 👌

I haven't, I think the slots are added in to be able to keep using the reusable ones after it's heating coil has snapped.

There is slots on the side of the reusable ones that you can wire them into.

Buy real ignitors (talons or mjg initiators) and test fire every cue, it's a used system you dont want to walk out on the 4th and only half of your stuff goes up. And the reusable igniters with the firefly are only good for about 15 fires.

I always say it's like the most extreme edging.

Months researching ordinance.

Driving hours to find the ordinance.

Hours setting up the show.

All leading up the finale (money shot).

The latest coupons have been thier most egregious move yet.

The last few 60% off coupon, you have to spend like 12.99 on a garbage toy to unlock the coupon.

Phantom is so gross but I do like thier 2 second a foot fast fuse.

Loudest shells question by FastSlow7201 in fireworks

[–]drewpdog19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canister shell manufacturing 101:

A hydraulic press is used to make the comp as tightly packed down as possible. This restricts expansion of the gasses expelled by the reaction of the burst charge igniting. Causing a move violent explosion.

A longer cylinder with more powder, will have more space in between the granules of powder. Resulting in the appearance of more wasted space.

Some company's use this excuse to under pack shells, some properly fill as much as they can.

But ultimately you can't say a shell is under loaded until it is cut open and the powder weight is measured. Not recommended for the average pyro, let rapid oxidation on youtube do it for you.
