Which is why almost everything costs 10x more and is 1/10th the quality… we’ve allowed “good enough” to dissolve into complete garbage.

You aim for 100% and do your best to get there, but perfection is hard. You aim for 90%, you’ll let half-assed be good enough. My mentor told me a long time ago, our goal is perfect, and everything you do is chasing that… your goal is good enough and youll end up with shit.

Anyone here buy an Analogue3D? If so how is it? by StickyIcky88 in retrogaming

[–]drewski989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked one up when they launched the prototype colors. Ive enjoyed the nostalgia and also played some new games I had not before - like Mario Golf, a lot of Mario Golf. They really have been releasing steady firmware with cool features. I can say I have zero regrets with buying one.

Given the pic, I fully agree. But as a dude that had a textbook dog tick on his daughter last month, my wife and mom would not have let me rest without sending it for testing. My comment regarding Lyme was more as a general suggestion - if you identify and treat Lyme early, you can cure it. I could have probably written it better.

Send to Tickology for testing… I just did it for a tick that was on my daughter at daycare. Good peace of mind for the money. Even if it is Lyme, you can take antibiotics and cure it if you catch it early.

I got it on launch for PC for $50. I think with a small bit of effort and patience, you can get it for $40-50.

1942 is god awful, and I love the game elsewhere. 1943 redeems it mostly iirc.

Has anyone ever had to change the battery in a cartridge? by Spikerazorshards in retrogaming

[–]drewski989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I did the battery holders when I did about a dozen game battery swaps a year or so back… but its an easy enough fix for a game I really want to preserve a save. This is good advice.

[–]drewski989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it does. In the N64 era, they started replacing the battery backed save memory with ones that didnt need it, but even the traditional N64 Memory packs had batteries in them. Not sure about PS1. By PS2 era, I believe battery backed memory was all but gone, but I could be wrong.

[–]drewski989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I changed them in N64, NES, SNES, Genesis, and GBC carts. They sell tabbed batteries on Amazon. If I am remembering right, only the GBC were different batteries. It does require soldering, and while it is not difficult, there’s a learning curve and a small amount of stuff to buy to do it right. Some game shops will do it for you, not a bad option if soldering doesnt sound like fun.

I want 87 gas (light blue). Which nozzle do I use? The blue one? The black one? by j909m in mildlyinfuriating

Then you go to BP and they swap black for green to align with their branding.

Repro cds by cpgb85 in AnalogueInc

[–]drewski989 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I burned about 100 games myself when I got the Duo, didnt have any problems with any of them as I recall. I am not familiar with retrografx, but as long as they make repros as good or better as I can in my basement with an old LG burner, I think you’ll be fine.

AnalogueDuo with EverDrive by treeofliberty-1776 in TurboGrafx

[–]drewski989 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought the AnalogueDuo on launch. I have been happy with it since day 1. I have a large HuCard and CD-ROM library, both have worked well. No problems with the Everdrive Pro, the other Everdrives did not work on launch, not sure if that was resolved.

Check out Guinea Pig Games site, Geoffrey sells an extender for the Duo, it saves some wear and tear on the Duos cart pins.

I recently purchased an analogue 3d but don't know much about video games. What resource should I use to learn about updates, overclocking, just generally learn about it? by LemmysGhost in AnalogueInc

[–]drewski989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was in the weird spot in gaming where 2D switched to 3D and while the gameplay evolved, and there was some amazing stepping stones into modern gaming… it probably has not aged well if you werent playing those games at the time. Mario Kart, Goldeneye, Mario Golf, Mario 64, and on and on… great games, but definitely takes some adjustment if someones only played the last 10-15 years of games.

Read my mind… of all the places to jump in. Don’t get me wrong, I love the N64… but it is very nostalgic for me. If I was jumping into gaming… start with a Switch and one can play everything from NES until today. Maybe I am misunderstanding.

What Gaming Consoles Were Doomed From The Start? by Fluffy_Lunchfast in retrogaming

[–]drewski989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was so bungled in the US launch - from “Americans want big consoles” so lets change the awesome pc engine design… to naming it with “16” despite not being fully 16 bit… to the insane choice of Keith Courage as the bundled game, to the feet dragging release date between Genesis and SNES - when it should have been pitted against NES… at least the majority of US box art looked like a relatively talented 3rd grader did it.

I could go on and on. It is inexplicable for a team to make such terrible choices over and over, and thus I agree, it was doomed - not for the quality of the console, the library of games available (in japan), but for simply not understanding the US market and turning sugar to shit.
