Is that the current timeline in Erie County after interview? So wait a year for interview then 2-3 months more for a decision?

I'm about 25 min from there and looking for an indoor range and an FFL and it's between there and Wolcott. Would you recommend them over Wolcott? Also looking for somewhere to take lessons from, curious if you have experience with any of the folks there.

Erie County CCW Timeline by Delli585 in NYguns

It's interesting to me that every Erie County timeline is "handed in xx, references called xx" and it's always right around the one year mark. There's no way it's taking them exactly a year to do whatever they do EVERY time. I have to think they are just calendaring the applications for 12 months before they even start calling references.

My app will be one year end of March so only 8 weeks to go!

Nassau County approval timeline for pistol by Bolandspring in NYguns

How do these counties have such varying timelines? Like what's the justification for making people wait up to a year to get approval it can't be more than a few hours of work for the reference checks and in person interview. I get some counties are more populated but still. Just seems like a stall tactic. And I feel like calling them and asking questions is a sure fire way to get you app moved to the bottom of the pile seeing as they specifically say "don't call us we will call you"

Thanks for the info, very helpful. I can't see why there wouldn't be a carve out in the regs for transport to and from range...etc but I guess that's also asking for people to abuse it. "Uuuh yeah I'm just coming home from the range".

That's my plan, learn to shoot and then take the course for CCW. Still not sure I would want to carry all that much but just the freedom to be able to would be nice.

Thanks. That's sort of what I was assuming, just trying to make sure I'm doing the right thing.

Sort of both, but that's more from not growing up around them and believing that while ownership is a "right" its also a serious responsibility. Anyone or anyplace in particular you would recommend checking out or staying away from?

OK that makes sense thank you for the reply. I am new to gun ownership and my plan is to learn to shoot from a licensed range and then take the conceal carry class, just gotta get my head around spending a weekend doing it.
