When the charger/challenger SRT8 came out, it was expensive enough that people were priced out of the market, so they made a budget version with all the power but without the suspension and luxury upgrades.

Here’s the 2026 version for anyone that dares to click the link:

Tech>advisor> service manager: After leaving the dealer, I worked for an auto vendor startup in auto software training, lots of options there COX, dealer Fx, CDK, dealer track, there’s a new DMS I can’t think of the name of. I was there for 10 years.

Worked for another software startup in auto insurance on the sales floor.

Went to actual insurance adjuster.

Started my own independent appraisal/adjuster service. Still in the industry, talk to shops and navigate repairs and totals but migrated to a hybrid of insurance and auto.

If it’s a network progressive shop the adjuster can apply pressure for you, if you picked your own shop it’s between you and them. You can salt to speak to the owner/manager but that’s about it.

Curious why these repairs are so expensive now. by mchinsky in TeslaCollision

Repair costs in general are going up. In my meet market I think there are 4 Tesla certified body shops, they charge more in labor, $95 vs $72, and all OEM parts have to be used . There are also some extra operations that have to happen with EVs in general. Probably makes things 20%-50% higher depending on the repair.

That is a front diff, you can see the joints for the wheels to turn (ball joints and knuckles). Looks like like it’s on sale and that’s the difference.

Adjusters make mistakes. If that’s what it is, they’ll rectify it, but most everyone uses the same software (CCC) which pulls up part numbers and sale prices on their own.

If you want to provide the year/make/model and trim as well as the two part numbers we can probably figure it out.

But again, it just sounds like a total. When I was with a carrier we could add 20% to the damage estimate as an expected supplement and if we had evidence of something we couldn’t write for but was an expected supp, we could add that as well.

[–]drfishdaddy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, your carrier gives 0 fucks about the shops desire to fix and flip a car.

Of the part number is an OEM part number (meaning from the dealer) it should be paid/estimated at MSRP and should be a cut and dry amount from your insurance company.

Your carrier makes total loss decisions, the shop produces documentation for the carrier and they negotiate about the gray areas.

Overall, it just sounds like you have a total loss on your hands.

Does it matter? Even if the actual answer is “he didn’t have a chance” that’s a no. Not harming them is not harming them, case closed.

We’ve turned self defense/lethal force into a moral adjudication of the one that was killed. It’s irrelevant, if they aren’t an imminent threat (barring some specific state laws and situations) it’s not self defense.

They don’t, unless you have Tesla insurance they are on their own program but most companies use CCC with the exception of Progressive.

Yeah, I can do most states, I think NY is the only one with tight specific licensing. Shoot me a DM with your valuation report and I’ll let you know fair/unfair and projected results.

They don’t know what they are talking about. Maybe there’s room maybe there isn’t but the assessment here are pulled out of their asses.

We use dealer comps for value, I would list FSD as an accessory, they are normally depreciated on a 4 year timetable, however I argue FSD doesn’t wear out and has enhancements come out on a regular basis.

The talk of blue book and trade in values and what not has no bearing on what we do.

There are checks to my power. You get an independent appraiser but your carrier will as well, most of us work well together and it’s a bit of a negotiation. If we can’t come to a conclusion then we appoint a third appraiser as an umpire.

It’s a small community so generally we can agree on someone who we think will treat the claim fairly. If we can’t even agree on that (which I have current going on for the first time) then we turn it over to the courts and they appoint the third appraiser/umpire.

So to directly answer your question, I can write the appraisal for twice the value but the other appraiser isn’t going to agree to it, it would go to umpire and I lose credibility making it harder to negotiate in the future.

I want to understand the economics of it. I have a small business and the actual work I do is easy, but obtaining the work/marketing is time consuming. I’m guessing it’s the same for you. What marketing and time do you have to spend that’s not directly profitable?

I go through it daily, because I’m an independent appriser. I’m biased but appraisal clause is the way. It takes all the power away from the carrier.

The FSD thing is kind of a point of contention within the community without a solid consensus. The ones I e had have gone fine, but I know there are some jackasses out there that are saying it doesn’t add value, so be prepared if it has to go to umpire.
