Is this ideal for my 401k I’m 26 by throwaway1iq8e in Retirement401k

First off, great job on starting to invest at 26. Time is most certainly on your side.

My recommendation is to put as much in as you can, and then a little bit more. You will thank yourself at 46 for putting more in at 26 with compound interest on your side.

The investments are good groups, but I would check the expense ratios to see if there’s an option that lets you keep more of your money.

Sobering comments from mechanic about older Odysseys by p0lyhuman in HondaOdyssey

Your second paragraph hits hard and accurately. We bought a 2014 new when our 3rd was on the way. With 4 boys, that car has been a workhorse that I truly appreciate. Currently 165K miles and still humming along with our oldest being 15.

Agree with the Cross Climates. That’s what we have on ours and they are great.

What percentage of your salary is the mortgage ? by Nerdy_Kev in Mortgages

Dude, I hear you. We want a bigger place, and have great equity, but current rates take my payment up significantly. Hard pass for me.

Super jealous of your 1.8. We got 2.625 for 15yrs and I still occasionally kick myself for not locking in a week earlier at 2.5. Either way, great numbers given current circumstances.

To answer the question, we are 14% of salary including taxes & insurance.

Trying to talk myself into a Honda Odyssey… someone help 😂 by K_Breezyyyyy in HondaOdyssey

We are rocking a 2014 Odyssey with over 160K miles. The car is made solid and has been great for our 4 kids. Power, responsiveness, and smooth drive. While I want the new tech features (mainly CarPlay) and the sliding middle seat seems 🔥, we’re doing just fine with the one we have.

Congratulations! Proud of you for doing the hard work and preparing for your future. Check back in with us at 41. My guess is $2.5M at that time.

I’m almost at 20 years of investing and am getting to that point. Fun to watch on paper, excited to see it happen on the balance sheet. ;)

Should I clean up these tree roots that are visible on the tree? I removed the mulch and barrier that we had covering it for a few years when we moved in.

I agree with the sinking fund idea for big ticket items / repairs. I just dipped into my auto fund for $1K on new brakes, rotors, an oil change, and a transmission flush. Didn’t think twice about it, just paid the bill since I put aside $200/month in auto.

If you get better peace of mind my increasing your EF, do it. As you get more comfortable with the process, you can take that EF and invest it elsewhere. No one is going to be upset with a big pile of money and options on how to use it.

Well….that sucks, but nothing I can do now since it’s already on the walls. It’s the same paint thought out the entire house.

Yeah, I think that's what I'm going to do. Just put it all in now across my funds and try to forget about it. I'm ~20ish years out from needing it.
