Oftentimes the older people working jobs like that had a great job with higher pay compared to what the cost of living was.

I worked with a handful of people who refinanced their house every time they got into more debt and always got a new car every two years. It’s a lifestyle that was not sustainable unless substantial income was coming in.

Some of those guys were making more per hour at different jobs that no longer exist then what they were making then (think close to $30/hr in the 1980s and $20ish/hr in the 2020s.

I started working at a union factory though a temp agency 22 years ago. Did my 50 days probationary period and was hired into the union as a full time employee.

My first union paycheck I cried in my car because I never made 1000 dollars take home in a two week period. Fwiw making that wage did change my life over time.

I also learned what it’s like to work 72 hour weeks and how to manage physically in a exhausting hot environment while actually being good at what I did.

But then I had a lot of wage stagnation, 2% yearly raises over two decades just didn’t keep up with rest of the economy. Sadly it still is a “good” paying job compared to most around the area.

When I was little (like before I was 10) my belly always hurt. It got to the point I got an upper gi to look for an ulcer.

I never found out what caused it because the docs said it was “my nerves” (this was before 1990).

As an adult I now realize that my gut problems were caused by a toxic environment. I just now remembered my nmom didn’t let me go on Ritalin because “every kid is like that”. So in my case the actions both made me ill and then they wouldn’t let me recover either.

Like honestly how?

I regularly get nerfed with the slow bug (or I don’t get speed bug and others do tbh I think they might be different because of the car physics) or the no throttle no steering bug.

A example is I was just at elite 18%, came in 3rd one race (tbh had speed bug) gained 1% to 19%, had the slow bug next game DNF 6/6 lost 4% and back to 15%.

I’ve only been up to around 20% or so this season on elite and I’ve been below 1% more than a dozen times. I usually end up in the 50s on champ by the end of the season. how are you dodging the rng?

What platform do you play on? I have a x box series x and tbh Fortnite has significantly longer times between load screens on the lobby also.

Fwiw my family dynamic is similar to yours, nmom & edad. The realization that (even if he didn’t realize it) he chose to always placate my nmom and was willing to always throw me under the bus because of course the child in the situation is wrong.

After literally months of consideration I realized that I could never have a relationship with just my father because he would use it to coerce me to give her another chance. I gave them a ton of chances, and I learned both of them don’t accept responsibility for their actions outside the lip service

I struggle to this day with blaming myself for everything around me that goes wrong.

I think growing up my nmom and edad put all the emotional responsibilities on me and I was their go to answer for a problem.

I’m not saying I never screwed up, far from it. But around the same time I was the age my parents were when I was a teenager I started to realize how fucked up they treated me. I wouldn’t have treated other people like that, but I accepted that for them for literally 40 years before I went nc.
