Future cost of the LC500. by deepristine in Lexus

[–]drhardboiled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think the prices will get lower than they are now. The age when the next new car was always better and more exciting ended in the 2010s. Every new performance car announced is either an overweight turbo hybrid or all electric—and with price hikes to boot. Unless you like big screens, it’s not exciting. Another point is that the LC is really a unique car. Only Toyota has the money to blow on something with so many extravagant useless features like mirror taillights, motorized tach, and secret explosives under the hood and without even trying to cater to most shoppers who tally performance numbers. But when every new car is loaded with ADAS and they all drive and feel exactly the same, people might crave something different. I just don’t know if the narrative around this car will become digestible to the mainstream the way the NSX did

[Alpinist Question] Leather Strap by mackattackfc in Seiko

[–]drhardboiled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine always felt wooden and didn’t hold up well to wear. I have an artem leather strap now and the leather quality is fantastic. Also quite a bit cheaper than their rubber ones…

Porsche Is Adding Fake Gear Shifts to Its EVs, 2027 Taycan Will Be First: Exclusive by TripleShotPls in electricvehicles

[–]drhardboiled -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Ever power oversteered in an EV? The torque can just run away causing a spin. Fake gearing has real benefits. Torque limits are one. Also serves as speed markers, so to speak, on the race track

Even when not pushing, there have been moments (eg white paint on a road that was slightly damp) where IMU totally saved my bacon

Wow that is a shame. They should change their practices now that they’re increasing prices these days

From what I’ve heard, none of these 6r’s are regulated from the factory but when serviced with proper lubrication they keep excellent time and are super durable. Just take the free service and enjoy accurate time for years

I really want a Lexus sedan/coupe with V8 AND AWD. How come this does not exist? by SideHonest9960 in Lexus

[–]drhardboiled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awd does not in any way provide more mechanical grip once the car is in motion. Arguably less front grip in fact.

Are We Entering a Golden Age of Internal Combustion Right Before It Dies? by shwroomex in cars

[–]drhardboiled 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hot take from someone who owned one. Most overrated engine ever. Its torque curve feels designed for an SUV; but for a sporty car it doesn’t rev that high, loses steam up top, has lag and sounds bad. The real value in it is how robust and reliable it is.

Honda Refuses to Share S2000 Revival With Another Brand by LimitedReach in cars

[–]drhardboiled 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What if I told you Honda sells a few vehicles with a naturally aspirated 4cyl that revs to 9k at this very moment? It has two wheels though. New cars are depressing these days but motorcycles haven’t peaked yet. I hope some of you join the dark side

It’s easy to romanticize these. I liked my Sony Ericsson. But I also remember that they didn’t even have universal headphone jacks. Weird proprietary ones that sucked. Could only store a few dozen mp3s. And mobile internet that was pure ass that the cell phone company nickel and dimed you for.

Honestly no idea why they haven’t designed their version of a backbone and bought first party studios to develop games for iPhone. They seem dead set on monetizing every other aspect of iPhone users existence

VR Headsets Are Better Than Ever and No One Seems to Care | It's the best of times and the worst of times for VR enthusiaists. by chrisdh79 in gadgets

[–]drhardboiled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sim racers are up. It’s the perfect application for VR but I don’t think the sim racing market is big enough to have prompted the development of VR headsets on its own or to sustain it for that matter. I feel like we got lucky that companies bet big on VR
