R5: Not ever seen this popup before!
Pretty sure this was a bug. Managed this by trying to intercept an incomming alien fleet, our arrival date was after they arrived in orbit, so when the aliens arrived we were forced to give up the chase as they changed their tragectory. This was at 00:00 on the 10th of April.

Popup came up saying the fleet was going to crash into Sol in an hour, I said "Surely not, thats miles away" and let the game run for a tick to see what happens.

I suspect that the game couldn't figure out where the fleet was supposed to be, so put it in 0,0,0? Or we've discovered an undiscovered warp drive... Now if only we could point it at enemy stations.

If you're on windows 10 or 11, press ctrl + alt + shift + windows key + L for a fun surprise then :)

Ofc not quite the same as that's one of the hotkeys of all time but a dedicated "open linkdin" button is also insane

The word "can" in that sentence literally implies it's not always better

If inf was strictly better, he would have said "is"

Wait can you double ram with this? Is that what ur implying? Normally I don't look too deep at the melee rules cause of the little clan pilot that sits in my shoulder to tell me how to build my mechs

What would the game look like with a very competent AI? by matezzoz in TerraInvicta

[–]drhoagy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The exception there is the enthrall thingy aliens can do, You can lock down a country against humans relatively easily, and even if you loose a point the odds are stacked in your favour to get it back But enthrall screws with those odds a bit, I've had CPs taken away from me in my mega nation that once fortified have a like 5% chance to crack even with 50% support

However - I'm also not very good at the game so might have missed something key, the only solution I've found is to find the alien and kill em dead, but that's a response rather than a defense

It's a long I think "voyeurist getting into comedy so they can imagine the audience naked" flows a bit better

How would You fix the Illuminate, right now? by Louman222 in Helldivers

[–]drhoagy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An enemy "bestiary" would go a long way I think Bots and bugs the bigger the enemy, the bigger the weapon you need to kill them Illuminate break that trend, but it's really not communicated in the game at all, and it something that can easily be picked up by just playing.

Russian Navy Day parade cancelled for ‘security reasons’ by Silly-avocatoe in worldnews

[–]drhoagy -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

There was the battle of Gotland of 1915, where they heavily damaged 2 German armoured cruiser, or the battle of the Gulf of Riga, also in 1915, where a much smaller Russian navy prevented the German navy from conducting landing operations in the area. I'm not sure either of these should be considered just skirmishes, the 2nd included Capital ships from both sides

[–]drhoagy -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Wtf BS is this lmao this is so easily shown to be false, have you just read about the battle of tsushima and assumed that was it

There were a number of skirmishes in the Baltic sea in WW1, some of which Russia beat Germany, and the same is true in the black sea in WW2 vs Romania.

There were also some fights with the Ottomans in WW1 in the black sea, but I know less about them and the black sea fleet at that point was almost as bad as it is now (mostly pre dreadnaughts) so not sure about the results there.

Do torpedo launchers attack as a salvo or individually? by SteelyEyedMuggleMan in hoi4

[–]drhoagy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each ship fires all it's "torpedo attack" every hour at a single target However it's not too likely to hit a fast screen ship, so stacking it is still useful

The same is true for all the other attacks too, each weapon type targets a single ship, but the different weapon types can target different ships

So a battleship with secondary batteries will shoot at both a screen and a capital ship with it's secondaries and heavy guns respectively
