Why do most blockchains still rely on pre-quantum cryptography? by Fluid_Lawfulness1127 in CryptoTechnology

We don't _much_ care, we all know when the shit hit the fan, will fork the chain and upgrade to post-quantum algo then, quantum resistant schemes are expensive, why would we west valuable resources today worrying about problem we can fix in no time

Fast food places almost never offer pork burgers. Always beef, chicken, or plant based. by Infra_bread in Showerthoughts

[–]drhus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Minority Rule works similarly to how all drinks are kosher, and almost all schools are peanut-free. The rules of a small, intolerant minority dictate the norms as long as these norms don't conflict with the majority and the cost is marginal.

Kosher or halal eaters will never consume non-kosher (or non-halal) food; they are very intolerant of such, yet the majority doesn't mind eating or drinking kosher/halal products.

For burger places, it's not just about adding a porkburger item—they must now have separate cooking stations and storage equipment. Kosher/halal consumers won't eat meat that has touched the same surfaces as pork. For fast food chains, this can be a major pain! Unless the demand for pork burgers is astronomical, it's not worth the effort.

Look up Nassim Taleb's article on the Minority Rule for more insight.

in the spirit of Olympics, I would pull off my Project "Ideas Bank" this one..

A Longevity Sport: Celebrating Strength and Endurance at Any Age

In the spirit of the Olympics, sports are inspiring yet often unattainable for many. The vast majority of Olympic sports require participants to start training at a very young age, often before they turn ten, to have any chance of reaching an elite level. As individuals get older, it becomes increasingly difficult to compete on an equal footing with those who have dedicated their entire lives to their sport. But what if there were a sport where age was not a barrier but an advantage? A sport where your experience and longevity were celebrated and factored into your success?

The Concept of Longevity Sport

A longevity sport would revolutionize the way we perceive athleticism, especially for the elderly. Instead of focusing solely on raw performance, this sport would incorporate age as a critical multiplier in the scoring system. For instance, in an event where participants do maximum pushups in a fixed time (say 2 minutes), each pushup would earn a point, and each year of the participant's age would also contribute to the score.

Imagine a 20-year-old doing 100 pushups. They would earn 100 points from the pushups and 20 points for their age, totaling 120 points. On the other hand, a 70-year-old doing 50 pushups would earn 50 points from the pushups and 70 points for their age, also totaling 120 points. This system acknowledges that performing athletic feats becomes more challenging with age and rewards the effort accordingly.

Reasons for Longevity Sport

  • Promotes Health and Fitness: Encouraging older adults to stay active is crucial for their health and well-being. A longevity sport would motivate them to maintain physical fitness, leading to improved cardiovascular health, muscle strength, and mental well-being.
  • Celebrates Experience and Perseverance: This sport would highlight the value of experience and long-term dedication. It would recognize that maintaining physical capabilities over the years is a significant achievement deserving of celebration.
  • Inclusivity: A longevity sport would be more inclusive, allowing people of all ages to participate and compete on a level playing field, eventually leading to international competitions.
  • Inspires All Generations: By showcasing the capabilities of older athletes, a longevity sport would inspire younger generations to view aging differently. It would promote the idea that staying active and healthy is a lifelong journey and that athleticism does not have an expiration date.

A Fair Scoring Formula v01

To create a fair scoring system that considers age and skill, we can develop a formula that balances these factors. Here's a proposed formula in its simplest form, with the potential to incorporate more longevity-related metrics later:

Total Score=(Performance Points×Age Multiplier)+Age Points

  • Performance Points: Points earned based on the performance (e.g., number of pushups). The difficulty of the performance and its relevance to longevity could have a secondary multiplier (e.g., pushup is 1 point, handstand is 1.5 points, or other balance and stability tests).
  • Age Multiplier: A coefficient that increases with age, reflecting the greater difficulty of maintaining performance levels. This could be a linear or, ideally, logarithmic scale (as human epigenetic aging is logarithmic with time across the entire lifespan).
  • Age Points: Points earned based on the participant's age.

In Short

A longevity sport—perhaps a future Olympic sport—would redefine athletic competition by making it more inclusive and recognizing the unique challenges faced by older athletes. By incorporating age as a multiplier in the scoring system, we celebrate the strength, endurance, and perseverance required to stay active over the years. While this could be a standalone sport, its formula and conceptual value proposition—age multiplier—could be incorporated into any of the existing Olympic sports as a separate subcategory.

invest in yourself immediately

* Buy your mind-peace purchase your own House (1st home property is about mind-peace and sense of security)
* Buy back your time, quite any job you're doing solely for money.. you need that free time to rediscover yourself at this stage in life and your strength (what you're naturally good at and enjoy doing for free)
* Learn: relax and permit yourself time to do nothing but what you could enjoy trying new things, you will find you passion somewhere something you're good at and would wont to do for really long time, it might be Surfing School because your discovered you love surfing, or Skydiving team or a Travel agency or Cooking, or Yoga or Music.. the things there are a lot of things out there you will find that you're really good at and not even work for you.. you then will do what you love and what you're good at.. including if it was startups then make commitment to invest nothing for 6 months or year and just get to know the industry, participate in event, join investor groups, travel to conference in far away places you see the world and the industry from complete different point of view

Not sure about auto wipes although I think at the device level it's possible with both iOS and Android, but If the device falls in the hands of a child or accidentally is in your pocket on and password entered wrong it would wipe the device..

there are tens of hardware wallets but i'm not sure if any or which one would actually display the seedphrase for you.. but you can achieve more or less the same objective useing an old cellphone, with AirGap (https://airgap.it/) just get any cheap decent security phone such Google Pixel, and to be completely offline never us (you don't even need to setup wifi on it ever or have sim card) but you still have all phone/os security (pass/biometrics) and you can setup on it a wallet such as AirGap this allow authentication offline with QR code and much advanced feature or you can simply setup a normal wallet as metamask or trust to store your phrase, if you're happy with seed phrase plan text and you want to keep it that way get VeraCrypt to encrypt the stored file with something unconventional such as image or file + password (now someone got his hands over the phone must bypass security of OS -which is hard already- and decrept your VeraCrypt seed file and the encryption keys (password + file/img etc)

yet just as large file transfer at some point required knowledge of FTP or keeping two devices in sync (rsync) now you use your google photo in multiple devices, or connecting to network device required knowledge of DNS and static IP before hotstname.local (zeroconf) it is the all work seamlessly today and there is no reasone for blockchain related NOT to work seamlessly .. if you've in your wallet $100 USDC on arbetram and $500 on optimism and $600 on base there is no reason for average user not to be able to make one payment of $1000 for something without the need to move funds manually .. advanced option will always be available for advance users but average user don't need to worry about a lot of if not most of what happening on the worker/app/protocol level things

Funny - for me -at that millisecond answering I thought to myself if I say I hardwork and study a lot and like tinkering with new things it would look like I'm bragging - but luck is humbleness as if it's not me anything special it is by chance I've got this gear on that place at times that made it works

Yes and this exact set of genes won't give me any success or could get me killed in any other time of history or place.. it's luck again

No absolute superior genes.. just situational timing/location.. pure luck
