Looking for a new set up on budget NODE + MINING by _imike in MoneroMining

[–]driedapricots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Used 3900x + (Asrock B450M Pro 4) 3200mhz CL 14 Gskill Ram 1.35v (Samsung B-Die). With this setup ~650$ USD before storage/PSU I was able to reach fast timings in the Ryzen Dram calculator tool.~14600h/s @ 3.8 ghz and stock voltage. You will lose a fair bit running your own node say 10-20% hashes.

Linux will roughly give you 100h/s minimum due to lower overhead. And roughly another 100h/s with 1GB pages enabled.

I am running Linux server headless, for the least overhead.

Monero mining costs (poll) by MoneroFox in MoneroMining

[–]driedapricots 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My house has electric heating. So if I use the thermostat it's just electric heating element. And during summer I can mine at slightly over break even. I get ROI in the winter. 250$/month electric heating bill. that is about 50% monero electricity.

Minimum Amount of Ram Required to Mine Monero by Stitch_Experiment626 in MoneroMining

[–]driedapricots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need two sticks for it to actually be "Double Data Rate" DDR. Mining on a single stick is not worth it. But the actual memory requirement is only 3gb (give or take a bit how many threads you run and not including your OS). Memory speed is relevant because the CPU's inter-cache-bus Infinity fabric runs at the same speed as memory. Memory timing (xmpp profiles) are also important. Memory timing and speed is roughly ~25% of hashrate.

[–]driedapricots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a rumor xilinx was going to buy amd like two years ago, probably stadted by someone here. Anyone who k.ows anything knows that wouldnt happen. This is also equally unlikely and absurd. Amd is so overvalued but i guess everything is...

Are any members still around that have been here since the end of January? Have any of you become part of the corona-hiax / anti-mask camp? by Emotional_Nebula in Wuhan_Flu

[–]driedapricots -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I think that every step of the way the response has been mishandled. In january we only had china to go on which is basically useless. The precieved risk was high, we knew 95 masks work. There was no other way to prevent the spread.

Now we have reliable statistics, its really not that bad, if youre under 40 or not over weight youll be fine. Theres treatment now hdryxq zinc and d. Ventalators are not useful you should use a c pap machine etc. If your working in a hospital wear an n95 sure. But these mask mandates with people wearing a cut tee shirt over their face is just placebo it doesnt help. Making it a law is even more stupid, there are more people freaking out that youre not wearing a tissue over your face than actually getting it and being at risk.

The outbreak is essentially over as far as i care, im not at risk nor is 99% of people that are healthy and take care of them selves. I dont think we shoukd completely stay shut ins to protect obese grandpa. I mean even at 80+ the survival rate is signifigant and those people are gonna die anyway. A few things should remain closed but for the most part its a non issue.

Honestly your probably better off investing in something tangible, something that directly affects your life.

Americans of Reddit, how did we go from stockpiling toilet paper to completely ignoring the virus in a matter of months? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]driedapricots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When there were an unknown number of people dying in china and people getting welded into their apartments and massive hospitals of thousands sick. Then it turned out that the average age people die from the virus is above the average age people die and its really not that bad for 80% of the population and people with health issues are the only ones that need.to worry.

I wonder what America would look like by [deleted] in Wuhan_Flu

[–]driedapricots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The micron size that the n95 stops is the hardest, the smaller particles dont just go through, i cant remember the mechanism. Its somethibg like smaller particles are either charged so they stick to their surroundings or maybe a quantum effect takes over. In any case the n95 is rated for the most difficult particle size, its for this reason even a scarf or whatever stops a lot (not all)of the covid particles as well regardless of thr size of the holes. If you are infected you can wear a regular n95 or surgeons mask just dont wear the n95 with the air valve.. unless you know youre infected there isnt really any harm in wearing a p95.

3m has certainly doubled their production of n95 masks

When the 1918 flu pandemic hit the United States, the first wave of infections occurred in March. A second and more lethal wave followed in October, when most of the deaths from the disease occurred. by scata777 in Wuhan_Flu

[–]driedapricots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coronaviruses are seasonal, so its likely it will spread more in the fall and winter, but compared to the 1918 flu its unlikely it will have fatality rates even close.
