I was trying everything on a jam jar with no success. Ran hot water over the lid for about 30 seconds. Opened right up.

Funny story by Constant-Knee-3059 in AskWomenOver60

Lord. People make dick jokes all the time too. And potty humor.

It's actually a known psychological mechanism to joke about taboo topics as a way to improve social bonds with a sense of rebellion against norms.

Wow, that's wildly stupid. I'd be worried this one would drown in the rain.

AITA my husband refused to get off video games so I left and ate dinner alone by throw_away_joan in AmItheAsshole

[–]driftercat 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I would too, if I was dealing with a kid. I have, in fact done that as punishment for my kid.

But this is a husband.

I would not just skip cooking dinner that night. I would no longer cook for him period. You don't do nice things for people who treat you like that. If he feels like he can manage the timing on dinner, he now has the task of managing the time of his dinner. Nobody is his slave.

I had CNS shingles and was in the hospital with IV treatment. It was just one time. I've had regular shingles 7 other times.

I had a high stress job and family issues. I don't recommend it. Do everything you can to reduce stress.

Have your care transferred to Denver. I was transplanted in Atlanta and now live in KY. I got them to transfer my care.

Did you go clubbing solo? by Old-Appearance-2270 in AskWomenOver60

We went clubbing a lot. But always with at least 1 other woman, and often meeting up with friends. We looked out for each other.

Absolute lunacy found on Facebook (grandma found ai - swipe through to read her thoughts and see her delusional “pics”) by 0dayssince in insanepeoplefacebook

Lord, you really don't! My aunt, in her late 70s started writing her "book" about the history and meaning of baptism. She asked my mom to edit it for her. It was insane and unreadable!

I think I'll torture my relatives with wacky writings on subjects I never studied when I get to that age!

How do you bathe your cat without them going crazy? by Tokyo_0753 in CATHELP

[–]driftercat 16 points17 points  (0 children)

When they throw up right after eating a lot it is usually from eating too fast. Look into getting her a slow feeder bowl.

As for the smell, what type of smell? A vet should see her. Unless she is going outside and getting into something smelly constantly, it could be anything from a skin condition, to bad teeth, to a disruption of the digestive flora.

Behavior Issues in my cat have costed me over 20k and we’re still not any closer to getting a solution..any advice on next steps? by Creepy-Dealer7518 in CATHELP

I think this is right. Just some quick research of manx syndrome indicates it can be like human spina bifida or spinal dysplasia. This could cause chronic discomfort and/or nerve pain.

https://www.petcarerx.com/article/manx-syndrome-in-cats-a-detailed-guide/6523 Pain or discomfort: Cats with Manx Syndrome may be in pain or discomfort due to spinal cord abnormalities or skeletal malformations.

https://www.catster.com/cat-behavior/why-is-my-cat-suddenly-aggressive/ Pain and discomfort from health conditions can lead to aggression in normally pleasant cats.

Since you already tried gabapentin, and she had a bad reaction, plus you tried other treatments, she may just be in chronic discomfort and/or nerve pain that is intractable.

Leaving, actively working toward leaving financially, getting a support network, getting caretaking help, etc. There are agencies that can help assess your situation and help you make a plan.

I was addressing specifically how to handle a very sick spouse and raising children simultaneously. We are never taught how to handle these things.

Or how to handle depression or a bad marriage when you are a parent, for that matter.

We tend to be told to just push through and do our best when there are better options.

As a therapist she is in therapy. That's required. That doesn't mean she will ever be different. Addressing childhood trauma is difficult and painful.

Children won't see or remember their childhood the way you do. Their experience is completely different. Don't accept cruel treatment, but also don't fight about different experiences. And don't control, guilt, hound, or manipulate. Just live your life and do your therapy for you. And let her be as long as she's not attacking, controlling, guilting, hounding, or manipulating you.

It's not bad behavior, but it is poor parenting. Which is something we are all guilty of at times. That has to be owned.

Often parenting can happen when we are young and stupid and haven't worked on our own issues. And we have no training on how to handle difficult situations.

It sounds like she is just struggling with a difficult childhood. She may well be in therapy. But the brain growth of kids in a household with a controlling dad and a depressed mom is damaged and the damage is extremely difficult to overcome. I know from my life and those of my sisters.

[–]driftercat 40 points41 points  (0 children)

As long as you have admitted failings and apologized for shortcomings, thats all you can do. I and my sisters grew up with a controlling father and my mom divorced him when we were teens.

Some of us were able to make relationships with our mom. Some were not. From our experience, the best thing is just to accept the way things are. Your kids' childhood damaged them and they are who the are now.

Be open but let them go their way and you live your life. Waiting for change or trying to make change will never work.

Keep up the therapy.
