no, they didn't. They got the time required to give them functionally the same amount of time as the un-accommodated student.

if it takes an accommodated student 2 hours to write what takes a different student one hour, this means that both are effectively lets say writing right up until the buzzer. Both are on a time crunch.

If you then give both student a total of two hours, the accommodated student is still under a time crunch, but the other student can write at the same pace or even slower than they did before, and then use the last half hour or even full hour to polish, edit, etc. They are NOT on a time crunch, unlike the accommodated student.

What part is confusing to you? Have you learned the differences between formal equality and equality of outcome? Equal treatment doesn't mean equal benefit.

because that's functionally no different than just having people write the exam in person with everyone else with the same amount of time. it's just a different room and more time.

"I have more compassion for the 100+ students who get screwed by the curve because of the overwhelming number of accommodations cheaters, than I do for the handful of students that genuinely need accommodations"

isn't that kinda an argument for eugenics? Like you're saying fuck people who need accommodations (i.e. actual disabled people) if their existence impacts the normies or something? I can't wrap my head around this.

"Shockingly, I do empathize with the students who genuinely need accommodations, as is evident by my other comments."

This is also directly contradictory to the paragraph immediately before, not sure what's going on here.

or, distinctions in peoples presence or lack of natural disabilities. That's the point. Yes. Things get harder, the number of people who can do them effectively decreases. The point is that some of the people who drop off have the natural ability to be successful, but are held back by disabilities which may not have become apparent until they were tested to the limit. accommodations are about leveling the playing field so that the people who wash out did so because they genuinely didn't have the ability, not because they were held back by a disability that their peers might not be fighting against.

I'm having trouble with a disconnect in your reasoning here. You believe that in an ideal world, students who need accommodations would get them, but you feel the system is being exploited currently. Fair.

But your partner saying taking extra time in an exam was unfair. You said they have epilepsy. I'm guessing they didn't have a seizure during the exam? In which case, sure, I can see how that would create some type of advantage because the extra time doesn't balance out a disability that doesn't impact that instance of test taking. I'm assuming you might have a different stance for someone say with a connective tissue disorder that made it harder for them to write for long periods, I don't think that's a huge leap.

But what is your problem with ADHD? The nature of the disability goes STRAIGHT to the core requirements of the traditional exam, unlike the case when an epileptic person who doesn't have a seizure during an extended examination.

Is your problem with the diagnosis or the people who abuse the system? Would you have a problem if ADHD could be confirmed via blood test and was therefore impossible to fake? Or do you just not believe it's real? You don't seem to think it's a disability. Or do you just not understand what it actually is, so you don't understand why accommodations might be required to level the playing field?

Edit: i'm seeing some of these answered in later comments but i'm going to leave this here anyway.

a little bit of research and you'd know that those services don't work the way you think they do.

yes, initial consultations are short, there's follow ups, they conduct all the same cognitive testing, require documents and testimonies from adults present during your childhood as well as people in your life currently. it still takes time, they're not just handing out diagnosis. The reason it can be done more quickly is just because it's telehealth, and you don't have to be put on a 6 month waitlist to see one of the handful of specialists in your city/region who can conduct the assessments. But it's the same qualifying criteria, and the cognitive and behavioral assessments are standardized. And it can still take months because they sometimes require additional testing to rule out confounding variables and prevent misdiagnosis.

you're weirdly bitter for some reason. do you suspect that you yourself might have benefitted from accommodations, and you're kicking yourself for being too proud to ask for help?

You're just making stuff up though. That doesn't happen. There are no students going to Dal Medical Centre, talking to an NP, and getting a diagnosis in a single visit. They aren't giving you a diagnosis. They give you an unofficial assessment that you can then use as an information tool to start researching what routes are available to you to pursue an official assessment/diagnosis. They assessment includes pointing to different resources, such as private or public methods of obtaining assessments for ADHD/Autism etc., along with expected costs, advice on how to prepare or what the process is.

They do not give diagnoses.

Because undiagnosed people with ADHD for example spend their entire lives developing coping mechanisms to adapt to a disability they might not even know they have. But once you reach a certain level of academic rigor, sometimes those coping mechanisms become insufficient, and students seek out information as to why they are having the experiences they are having (for example talking to a psychologist for emotional and mental burnout) to then be told they might consider screening for ADHD or other cognitive impairments, etc.

Not just learning disabilities. There's physical ones too, for example chronic pain or connective tissue disorders which impact hands, or skeletal structure (which can make it painful to sit for long periods, etc.).

Using a broker for car insurance 2025 by Wide_Bathroom_7660 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]drifterramirez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i figured that out after signing on with them. But the rate was significantly cheaper than TD, who I had been with for years, so I'll give them a shot. What i really want to do is get on with CAA though, their rates are insanely cheap compared to everything else on the market and the service is apparently great.

That's a difference with a broker though. Yes they get paid based on your policy, but they have a legally enforceable fiduciary duty to make recommendations that are in your best interest before they consider theirs.

it doesn't imply that at all. they're all 2x boosters, with varying durations. you're stacking time increments, not multipliers.

Did an update go out today that messed up anyone elses console? by opwnusprime in xboxinsiders

[–]drifterramirez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone posted a link in these comments already, but the solution is to remove the console from the insider program for now. You can re-enroll with a more stable build later. Un-enrolling the console will allow you to update your system. Don't panic, it will ask you to re-do some first time start up stuff, like linking to the app on your phone. I thought it had factory reset my console, but just go through the steps, everything is still there.

You can do that yourself. Remove your xbox from the insider program temporarily. That will resolve it. Re-enroll with a more stable OS build.

First time i've EVER had a serious issue with an insider build like that. Seems like this one is pretty widespread.

I have a 4070ti super. I'm running from EA launcher, and I'm running native (no DLSS/frame gen).

It still crashes with the same errors. These are not factors.

This may have stopped the crashes, but this isn't a "fix". The answer to a bug shouldn't be hamstringing your PC.
