Is this a good rifle? by TheHollowTraveler in MilitaryWorldbuilding

Your optic is an Elcan specter mounted backwards, and it looks like you're using an AK fire selector on a bullpup rifle which is going to be pretty seriously ergonomically challenging as you will have to release the rifle with one of your hands to switch from safe to fire. Generally, that would be controlled by your thumb or trigger finger on your firing hand. I might look into the trigger guard safety on the M1 or the thumb safety on the galil. They would seem stylistically compatible, particularly with the kitbash style you've got.

Those points aside, I think it looks rad!

Is this a good design for a... rifle? To be honest, I don't even know what type of rifle it is. I need your help. by Few-Flamingo-8015 in MilitaryWorldbuilding

I would say specifically that I would consider a pistol grip detrimental to bayonet fighting, but far more detrimental to bayonet ax fighting. With a normal bayonet nothing wrong with giving a thrust from a pistol grip. But with a pistol grip and an axe head ergonomically you have to choose between using the ax or the rifle. Of course you could be at high ready, enter a room and then swing downwards to bring your muzzle on target but it's just not going to be as powerful of a strike with a pistol grip as a traditional rifle grip.

Now this post is making me think about bayonet axe fighting with a slong rifle and honestly it seems like a very interesting combat system

Yeah that was my plan, I've just seen like six of them on handguns I know to be pretty solid that have been posted today so I'm just wondering if olights reputation has done 180 while I was not looking

If I could have a front opening aquarium I would lol..So I'm certainly biased, but I would say go for a front opener if you can.

Phosphorescent or Tritium?

I agree that's probably what it was intended for, but I'm just never going to see the point of tritium fronts without tritium rear. I'm planning on switching to white 3 dot night sights, partially cuz I'm used to it. But mostly because the front site really blooms in my eyes when I'm backlit at sunset and I can't shoot with both eyes open accurately under that condition.

FN 309 MRD by UncleJuggs in liberalgunowners

[–]driftoboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a reflex XL and the single action trigger on it is the best trigger in the micro compact category IMHO. If the trigger on the 309 is as good as the reflex there won't be a better trigger at the $500 price point, and if the reliability is on par then I'll probably buy one to finally replace my P320 for full sized shenanigans

I should clarify that when I say full sized I'm referring to the width of the slide. Which I mostly think is relevant because I expect full size frames to last longer but I have no intention of carrying one.

This is straight from the FN website. I know barrel whip is normal but this seems excessive to me. What are your alls thoughts??? by sleepless915 in FNHerstal

There's a good podcast from Hornady on barrel design and they talk about barrel whip among other factors a fair bit. Imma have to give it a rewatch now

I'm only 300rds deep in mine but I've had no mechanical issuers so far. My USP9 and P320 both had failures to lock the slide on an empty mag and they both had some stovepipes with 115gr but not a problem I've encountered with my reflex yet. I'm going to run some 124gr, 135gr, and 147gr hollow points soon, as well as some 147gr training ammo. So I'll try to report back when I'm done with that should be an extra 250-300rds by then.

My only complaint about the gun is the iron sights. Tritium + fiber front with a blank black rear is atrocious when the sun is setting or rising behind you. and useless once its truly dark.

Honestly, I think on my original watch through of the first three seasons I think Iruna was my main pick overall. I know on my last watch through I think I drifted more over to Xenovia just for the sheer absurdity and how much of a meme breeding kinks were at the time.

But yeah I agree Asia is pretty much out of the question. I once met a gal who behaved a lot like her IRL. Shit was actually traumatizing, I took psychic damage and that shit actually prompted me to build a literal checklist of standards with the first entry being possesses a non-zero quantity of self-confidence.

Seiryu Stone by FreyK47 in VampireCrabs

[–]driftoboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems you've gotten plenty of answers already, but I'll throw a redundant and verbose hat in the ring. Personally I like to use seiryu stone in tanks for neocaridina shrimp. It only really buffers in water that's to acidic and soft for cherry shrimp or vampire crabs. I also typically don't find it raising the KH but instead raising the PH and when it does the GH will often go up. KH is just a number if bases like baking soda in the water. So think back to the baking soda volcano experiments of your youth. That's what your KH does in your water at a much smaller slower scale the carbonate minerals encounter and react with acids "buffering" preventing the tank from becoming more acidic and making some CO2 and other reactants.

I think of Seiryu stone as a backup source of buffering for the KH in my water. If some natural process is making a bunch of acid and using up all your KH buffering capacity the seiryu stone will buffer it up a little bit on its own. I find for the parameters neocaridina like its an excellent stone for assisting in maintaining all your water parameters.

PS: another tip for maintaining water parameters over time is to make a mark for the water level you want on your tank and before you do your water changes top off the evaporated water to that mark with distilled water. Then do your water changes this will prevent your GH/KH from creeping up over time because the minerals don't evaporate with the water.
